Based at the Royal Mews, Windsor Castle, in this role you’ll join our Fire team to provide a 24/7 fire surveillance service and support all aspects of fire safety across the entire Windsor estate.

Key Responsibilities:

You'll monitor and respond to automatic fire detection systems, carry out ad-hoc patrols, as well as acting as first-response in the event of a fire or other emergency across all parts of the Windsor estate.

Based in the Control Room, you’ll be expected to monitor the fire detection systems, working in close liaison with the Police Control Room.
You’ll also manage hot works permits, carry out fire safety ‘point of presence’ inspections, call point testing, fire panels, inspections of firefighting equipment, maintaining logs of activity on line and in daily logs.
You’ll also support daily operations by issuing keys, escorting and giving access to fire system contractors.
In the event of a fire, you’ll use systems to monitor smoke levels and make decisions regarding safe evacuation, carry out dynamic risk assessments, and act as ‘pathfinders’ for the fire service.
You will liaise closely with Fire Alarm Engineers on testing and maintenance of systems.
You will also provide first aid support to the Castle and Home Park and elsewhere as required.
You may be required to attend some events to ensure a Fire Service presence.
In this uniquely varied role, you’ll also monitor the Royal Household switchboard during night shifts, support the Property section with events, and help train the wider organisation on the importance of fire safety.

The breadth of this role will provide opportunities to develop your existing skills, whilst gaining experience and training in new areas, enabling you to deliver a vital service to this unique organisation.

Hours

This is a full time role, where you will be required to work 2 x 12 hour days, 2 x 12 hour nights, followed by 4 days off.

About you

Essential Criteria:

While experience of working in the emergency services, preferably the fire service, would be an advantage, it's your pro-active attitude and team-focused approach that will make the real difference.
Standard IT skills are a must, including an ability to input data into spreadsheets, and you can also learn new systems quickly enabling you to operate our fire and security systems.
With a good level of physical fitness, you'll be confident carrying out inspections, working at height and in confined spaces.
Interpersonal skills are vital too, because you’ll be working closely with a wide range of people including employees, residents, visitors and guests.
You must hold a full, clean UK driving licence as some driving will be required between sites.
With initiative, a responsive attitude and calm under pressure, you’re as effective working alone as you are working as part of a team.
