Role Overview
As a Wholesale Packer & Delivery Driver, you will play a vital role in ensuring our wholesale customers receive their orders accurately, on time, and presented to the highest standard.
The role involves preparing and packing wholesale orders against delivery notes, conducting quality checks, loading and unloading deliveries, and completing early morning deliveries to our wholesale customers using a company-provided refrigerated van.
You will act as a representative of the business while on customer sites, maintaining professional relationships, ensuring stock is rotated correctly, checking stock levels and product dates, recording returns accurately, and helping our customers maintain attractive and well-stocked displays.
This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, reliability, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
Order Picking & Packing
- Accurately pick and pack wholesale customer orders according to delivery notes and order schedules.
- Ensure all products are packed securely and presented to company standards.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure products meet freshness and presentation requirements before dispatch.
- Verify quantities, product types, and customer requirements prior to loading.
- Report any stock shortages, discrepancies, or quality concerns to management promptly.
- Prepare orders within required timeframes to ensure on-time deliveries.
Delivery Operations
- Complete scheduled early morning deliveries to wholesale customers.
- Safely load and unload products into the company refrigerated delivery van.
- Follow delivery schedules and routes efficiently.
- Ensure products are transported in accordance with food safety and temperature control requirements.
- Deliver products professionally and courteously to customer premises.
- Obtain proof of delivery where required.
Customer Service & Stock Management
- Build positive and professional relationships with wholesale customers.
- Unpack and merchandise products on customer shelves or display areas where required.
- Check existing stock levels before replenishment.
- Rotate stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.
- Monitor product dates and remove any products requiring return in accordance with company procedures.
- Provide feedback to management regarding customer requirements, stock levels, and opportunities for improvement.
- Act as a positive ambassador for the SugaSpice Bakery & Kitchen brand.
Returns & Record Keeping
- Accurately record product returns, credits, and wastage in accordance with company procedures.
- Complete all delivery paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Report any delivery issues, customer concerns, vehicle issues, or stock discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, collections, and returns.
Vehicle Care & Maintenance
- Maintain the company refrigerated delivery van to a high standard.
- Ensure the van is clean, organised, and presentable both internally and externally at all times.
- Conduct routine vehicle checks before and after deliveries.
- Monitor fuel levels and report any maintenance requirements promptly.
- Ensure the refrigeration system is functioning correctly and operating within required temperature ranges.
- Adhere to all road traffic regulations and company driving policies.
Food Safety, Health & Safety
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health and safety procedures.
- Ensure products are handled safely throughout the packing and delivery process.
- Maintain cleanliness within packing, storage, and loading areas.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Previous experience in a delivery driver, warehouse operative, order picker, logistics, wholesale distribution, or similar role.
- Experience accurately picking and packing customer orders.
- Full UK driving licence with a clean driving record.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules effectively.
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to undertake manual handling tasks and lift products safely.
- Professional appearance and positive attitude.
- Comfortable with early morning starts.
Desirable
- Previous experience delivering food, bakery, catering, or wholesale products.
- Experience using refrigerated vehicles.
- Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- Knowledge of stock rotation and FIFO procedures.
- Experience completing delivery documentation and return records.
