About our team:

The School of Education at Manchester Metropolitan University offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses across a wide range of education disciplines, including initial teacher education programmes in Primary at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, alongside a range of postgraduate Secondary subjects.

You will be joining a strong and supportive team of motivated, dynamic colleagues who are ambitious for their students and committed to shaping the future of the teaching profession.

We are seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Secondary Teacher Education with particular expertise in Design and Technology. This is a full-time role (5 days per week) on a fixed-term contract for one year.

In this role, you will:

Plan and deliver engaging seminars and lectures, inspiring and supporting student teachers to develop as reflective and effective practitioners.
Teach within our Secondary PGCE teacher education programme and potentially contribute to other programmes across the School of Education.
Lead taught modules in areas of teacher education and contribute to the ongoing development of our curriculum.
Support student teachers and school-based mentors through placement visits and professional development activities, working within the current requirements for Initial Teacher Education.
Act as a personal tutor to identified groups of students, providing academic guidance and pastoral support throughout the academic year.
Engage in recruitment activities, including interviewing prospective candidates and contributing to recruitment events, open days and twilight recruitment meetings.
Have opportunities to lead thematic areas linked to ITE statutory guidance and the evolving Ofsted framework.

About you:

You have expertise in Design and Technology education, with particular experience in Secondary D&T Education.
You have experience of supporting student teachers or early career teachers within an educational setting and can demonstrate an understanding of the opportunities, challenges and priorities facing the sector.
You have a strong understanding of the requirements and regulatory frameworks associated with Initial Teacher Education, including the quality requirements for initial teacher training introduced in 2024.
You hold a good first degree together with a PhD in a relevant discipline (imminent completion may be acceptable), or possess equivalent sector experience or qualifications, alongside Qualified Teacher Status.
