HMP & YOI Doncaster is a Category B prison and it predominantly serves the courts of South Yorkshire and currently holds up to 1,145 male prisoners over the age of 18.We are located in the centre of Doncaster Town Centre within walking distance of the railway station and bus station.
We are currently recruiting for an Operational Support Officer- Residential to work on either a 20 hour or 40 hour basis across a 24/7 rota.
Overview of the Role
Within this role you will work on a house block in a prison area where you can oversee the living quarters. You will need to check the health and safety of prisoners, deal with any enquiries they have helping wherever possible, assist with any prisoner finance and keep the prisoner data base up to date whilst writing up an incident reports. You will be required to escort contractors, visitors and vehicles whilst completing rub down searches of prisoners and carry out general clerical duties.
To excel in this unique environment you would need you to have excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills. The ability to handle change effectively, work well with others, and demonstrate resilience, integrity and professionalism, irrespective of the challenging situation you may face are essential requirements in this role. Due to the nature of the environment keen instincts, good powers of observation, strong decision making skills and the ability to be assertive and exercise authority are important.
Your natural patience, understanding and commitment to helping people will stand you in good stead for this position. You will have strong IT skills and have previous experience dealing with difficult customers.
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office.
You will be required to work in a number of areas within the establishment which will require you to work within a team and at times on your own.
You will be expected to carry out night duties when required.
