Bouygues-Construction is a French company and is one of the world's leading public sector construction and building management companies and certainly the largest in Europe.

In the UK, we have Bouygues-UK, which is the construction company.

Bouygues Energies, formerly called ETDE (Enterprise Transportation for the Distribution of Energy) and before that were known as ECOVERT FM. Bouygues Energies is the building management company, and do everything from building maintenance, security, catering and cleaning.

I worked for Structis-UK, which used to be a private, out-sourced IT company, but was bought-out by Structis Informatique in France (before I started working for them).

I worked on Level 1, also called the 'First Response Team' for three months before being promoted to Level 2

The Level 1 team, answer the phone and carry out a range of tasks from installing software, assisting people with simple issuses, setting up IT accounts, password resets. The team is under constant review, and so the list of tasks is subject to change. The main idea of the level 1 team is to complete tasks that don't need troubleshooting (or it gets escalated to Level 2) and do first trouble shooting.

Level 2 is "Everything Else"
Level 2 do day to day management of the main comms at Head office and to help with site setups and management and maintenance of all the sites.

Level 2 program switches and have to understand the network set up so that they can troubleshoot and site internet, intranet problems.
We install site servers, setup file shares, network printing and scanning.

To be honest, there is too much we did, that i can write here.
We did management and setup of Mitel ICP telephones for sites. Video conference unit using Polycom and Tandberg systems across the UK, including setting them up on the network.

We also had to know about Blackberry Enterprise Server, and the use of smart phones in the Enterprise. when i say, know, i mean you had to be able to assist with joining them to the network and showing people how they work and troubleshoot them. If the phone stopped working then it was sent back to the phone provider.

Typical day consists of ensuring all the sub-contractors on site presently know what they are doing, what their programme is and who/what other sub-contractors are in their area.

I've learnt alot since arriving here, none more so than productivuty versus budget. What can be acheived on time in the safest manner but at minimal cost to the overall saving.

Management within the company is of a French culture, very demanding but at the same rewardable if the job is carried out correctly.

Co-workers are enjoyable to work with, many different nationalities so you learning each day of them. Whether it be a part of their culture or how they do things on site.

Hardest part of the job is the early mornings but once in the routine it slowly become the easiest part.

Most enjoyable part of the job is to see when works you've managed come to completion, everyone is ahppy with the outcome, its completed within programme and with monies to spare.

well what can i say, in truth i can only speak about this very small sector of BG, which was clearly thrown together to fill a shortfall when Carillion crash out, that said it really does look wile it was a last minute scramble to grab some PFI money .
the management was absolutely terrible, very little knowledge of FM and its responsibility's, zero training opportunities, zero support,  hardly anyone lasted more than a few months in the señor roles (inc HR) the only staff clinging on to jobs are unemployable elsewhere!!! 
i witnessed bullying and intimidation of staff from cleaners to managers, and lack of adherence to H&S issues once there were made awere of them.
all and all after over 25 years of FM on the floor and in managerial roles i can honestly say this company is the worst across the bored i have ever seen and will hopefully not be around much longer...

I worked there as a commercial gas engineer for the London and West area. On starting I was given a couple of items of uniform and an analyser. Started working on my own after a week. Wasn't given additional uniform including safety boots. Also tools, test equipment, ppe were not offered. Didn't have a company phone or tablet as promised. Phone eventually arrived but no email and the pda app didn't work. This was during covid and things didn't get better. I eventually got the uniform, ppe and tools after two months by complaining about shortages but was then bullied until I lost it and quit.
Poor, poor management and a tight firm. Worked through lockdown whilst the management and admin stayed at home. Shockingly bad with little or no empathy for frontline workers. Give them a wide berth is my advice. 

A typical day at work was always never the same though at certain periods specific tasks had to be undertaken in line with service delivery and reporting requirements. Learnt to prioritise work in accordance with activity on the ground at any given time. Gained confidence conducting meetings at all levels to Top Senior Management, working with people and groups from various departments building good rapport across the business thus enhancing knowledge and skills. Being mainly target driven was a downside as this weighed down on moral with barely much incentives on offer. Long hours of work and travel. Always rewarding when goals achieved as a team

Working for Bouygues-UK was amazing because I have been learning during all the 8 months I worked for and with them. There was always new things to do and I absolutely loved that. Apart from answering at the phone calls, registering daily reports regarding the University of Hertfordshire project, sending and receiving letters, dealing with meetings, I was also dealing with the 4P Programme and Smartwaste that needed to pe upgraded everyday.
Another aspect I loved about working for By-Uk was the fact that my co-workers were from different countries and this was the perfect opportunity to practice all the languages I speak (Italian, Spanish, French and English).
The hardest part of the job has been the moment I had to leave for maternity.

Enjoyed my time at Bougyues till I became ill and I was then a problem and to be honest I was moved out of the door very quickly and put straight on the dole with no qualms.  I have to say I also just had a bad manager who made it clear only via phone calls he wanted me out because I was not 100% and a problem. Made it very clear he was having me out one way or another.
One bad apple just my luck but in over 15 years working at Bouygues also found lots of good people who were a pleasure to work with and I enjoyed working with the French staff some staff did not but i was ok with it.
On the whole if your starting out you can learn a lot here if you get in with a good team.
I just had some really bad luck at the end.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with the Security department was good and everyone look after one another.
The night managers are so good and accommodating regardless whom you are they most assist in whatever you’re going through.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The security day managers,they’re not friendly.
They’re full of idiots who really don’t have people’s skills in place.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good environment and good atmosphere 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Nothing really changed.
Day shift are so stressful because of the managers

Bouygues set great stock of the company’s attitude to mental health. This is not bourn out by the actions and attitudes of local, regional and national management. They mock and deride the workforce. There is no privacy or confidentiality. Worker’s mental and physical health is a topic for open discussion and derision whilst they are absent from work. Threats are made to send non-medically qualified managers round to your home address whilst you are absent from work. They offer support on paper only. They threaten and bully. Not what you would expect from the world’s seventh biggest construction company.

I worked in the construction and commissioning phase of a Waste Plant.
It was a brand new type of process in a very dirty industry. 
Everyone pitched in and there was a real feel of teamwork. This came from the top down and was very welcome. People were free to make suggestions and contribute to the Commissioning Process. 
Rewards were in line with the industry and holidays were generous.
Getting the place up and running was an achievement when so many new projects in this field fail to get the technology to operate properly.
