I am reluctant to recommend anyone apply for a role at Clipper Logistics, at least in the office in an administrative role, as I was in. 

I lasted 4 and a half months, and that was long enough. The work you do is incredibly monotonous and does not really change from day to day at all.  I was tasked with processing customer orders electronically, using an on-site computer system. The training to use this system was adequate, but once they felt you were capable they didn't provide much more support at all. It really was sink or swim. 

Work aside, the overall office morale was low. Managers were frequently stressed out of their minds - regularly pulling crazy overtime every day, which put them in a constant bad mood and this rubbed off on all the other staff. I often felt like I was walking on egg shells whenever I had a problem or wanted to double-check something. This in turn led to me making more mistakes than I normally ever would, due to being nervous and not wanting to 'bother' anybody. 

In all honesty, the office managers weren't too bad - they were wiling to support you when push came to shove, but the manager of the whole site (everyone's boss) was hated, and it showed. He ran the company behind the closed doors of his office, never bothering to come out to where the real work was being carried out and asking us how everything was going. He also made ad-hoc changes to well-established processes that people were used to without consulting anybody. This led to more distrust and resentment - on a daily basis, people regularly talked about him behind his back, which contributed to an overall toxic atmosphere.

If the pay was half decent, it would have been better, but at the time I worked there (early 2015), my pay was a few pence over minimum wage (around £7.20 at the time).  Working in a place as stressful as that, for basically minimum wage is unacceptable and needless to say I was out of there as quickly as possible. The hour were long for an office role (45 hour weeks, 8am to 5pm days) and the pay was appalling. The site itself was also incredibly dated and fitted in with the dour, dreary vibe of the place. The offices themselves were 1970s design, and hadn't been updated in any way to come into the 21st century. Neither had the computers or software - they were still running Windows XP. 

Overall, steer clear of this place unless you like to work long hours for peanuts, in a desperately drab environment, surrounded by unhappy, resentful colleagues at the hands of a clueless, arrogant and out of touch manager. The whole places needs serious overhauls in practically every department. Avoid.

Smelly locker area, many lockers broken. Unbelievably people are putting shoes into a locker that is not broken and not putting a lock on it rather than using a broken locker.
Have to walk a certain way from carpark to building, right past the smoking area.
Eating area is grotty and always busy, especially around 5am.
Huge amount of workers are foreign and converse to each other in their own language instead of English. Permanent foreign staff show favouritism to their fellow countrymen and have no manners.
Given instructions on how to do your job and then expected to get on with it. I wrote down how to do certain things as I was spending to much time looking for help.
Build up your fitness, there can be A LOT of walking if you are picking. My feet were insanely painful and took me three weeks to get used to, that's after having days off from the pain.
Don't wear their safety boots, I went to Sports Direct and got safety trainers, a lot lighter and more comfortable.

Typical Job Agency, tell you what you want to hear, but then back track on this when you are employed.
Told at the interview you are allowed a sick day per month. You aren't. I wasn't paid for mine.
Also told just because the busy season stops, doesn't mean the job does. Wrong again. 400 odd staff during Christmas period, down to around 50 other times? More lies.
They advertise Mon to Fri work, with no weekend work, but when you get to the interview you get 'sorry, those positions have gone.'
They continue to advertise these days, but when you ring up about them, the positions are always taken. Funny that.
Forget trying to call them. The phone rings out, and when someone does answer, they pass the buck and say someone else will call you, but they don't.
Only good thing was the pay was weekly and a good rate for nightshift.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day involved planning workloads, allocating tasks to team members, monitoring progress against KPIs, and ensuring health & safety standards were met. I spent time supporting colleagues on the floor, solving operational issues, coordinating with other departments, and adjusting plans based on volume changes. Throughout the shift I ensured accurate stock flow, smooth handovers, and effective communication with supervisors and managers.”

I used to work in PLT for one year. They usually need people for picking since it’s the busiest department. The pressure is incredibly high, if you don’t hit the targets, they will call you and have a conversation with you about it right away. The system shows everything, including your downtime. Of course there is a chance you can get a “better job” inside the warehouse but you need to meet the right people who can help you to progress. It’s impossible to move from picking to packing, unless you have health issues. Of course taking an absence isn’t a good thing as well (especially during the peak period - you can get sacked for this!), you’re allowed to take only 2 absences during 6 months. It doesn’t matter if it’s a whole day/rotation or you just suddenly felt bad during your shift and ask them to let you go home. They have many shifts available, I chose 12 hour shift, so I worked 4 days in a row, then I had 4 days off. That was really convenient in case of taking a holiday. There’s a very important thing to say about security - You’re not allowed to have your phone with you, you have to leave it in your locker. There were the situations that someone’s phone or wallet got stolen and they didn’t take any steps to not let it happen again! My friends lost their phones as well. Overall, I don’t recommend this job. If you’re seeking for a part-time just to earn extra money, it should be fine. Otherwise, absolutely not. You can find something better, with better working conditions.  

Treated like muck, constantly searched every time I left the building - if you look nice then the security just hassle you constantly. I would be searched every shift when I was leaving, I’ve never even stolen a penny chew in my life.

I was on a Monday-Friday shift 6am-2pm.
They tried to change me to 4on-4off, but that’s not what I signed up to. 

The agency, on a Sunday evening from the managements private number was texting me telling me to send photos of my bank card to her or not to come to my shift the next day. I didn’t send the photo, went to the shift. After my shift I received another text saying I told you not to come in unless you send me a photo.
So I quit on the spot, I am not being treated like dirt. Nor am I sending photos of my bank card to the management on their private numbers. I had previously given them proof of ID, bank details etc, they had everything they needed and no reason to be asking for this.

I found that the majority of people choose not to speak English at work, I couldn’t talk to anyone because they didn’t speak my language and I was just invisible. Lunch breaks I went and sat in my car, I had never felt so awful in a job in my life.

A typical day at work involves managing a team of about 25 to 30 staff from the goods in department down to the processing department. Goods delivered by various suppliers are checked, counted, processed (ticketed and tagged) and them putaway in locations. 

I have learned to work with various Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and to effectively prioritise jobs and activities while ensuring that the company KPIs are met.

Clipper has a multicultural workforce making it both exciting and challenging. The management skills I have develop in Clipper provided has helped me understand how cultural differences inspire organizational excellence.

My co-workers are excellent to work with. They have always shown support to achieve company goals and uphold company values and policies.

The hardest thing about my job is knowing when to stop. Even when I finish my shift or on holiday, I still go through emails at home. I do not think of this as being so bad as I like to be sure that everything is running smoothly.

The most enjoyable part of my job is calling my team together to thank them for a job well done in completing a large priority order and still not falling outside the agreed KPI.

First of all the cons in 2018 the clipper fleet installed cameras in the cab facing the driver, it constantly feels like your been watched,makes you feel untrustworthy and your and that your behaviour Is been micro managed.its not the same as having a camera in a warehouse that records an area or a group of people it’s a one on one camera a couple of feet away from your face recording your every slightest move.At the depot I work for there’s no overtime rate on weekends or bank holidays with one of the contacts requiring you to work 2/3 Saturdays  although it may be different at other depots.The pros are the routes are all set out for you and the finishing times are predictable so you can plan the rest of the day.Theres no manual unload on the class1 side it’s all palletised.Even with the wage  just been average the ease of the work off sets that.Its a shame about the camera facing the drivers It’s spoiled what was once a good job and what used to be a good company to work for.

Extremely bad place they fire people on a day to day basis half of their workers struggle to put a sentence together it’s a total and utter shambles. Furthermore there is a lot of favouritism going on for example there is a rule where you can’t wear any branding clothes, so one of my friends accidentally wore a Nike t shirt with just the tick and he was being sent home by the supervisor however the supervisors friends is wearing a full Adidas tracksuit and when he addressed this he was told to not come bad for being rude.  Another major problem is a lack of ventilation in the warehouse meaning that workers are uncomfortable and distressed.All in all there is poor management meaning those with power can do as they wish. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone because if you don’t leave because of the poor conditions you’ll leave because you've been fired for poor performance which is a line used when you either catch them out for being unfair or you address a problem you see in the management or the conditions. I could go on and on but this is bad enough.

However, normally our office is quite quiet, due to everyone working so hard, but several times in the day the mood will change and we will all have a good giggle, usually because someone from the warehouse section has come into the office and said something quite profound about the day etc.,

Our Goods In Girl can sometimes have a fit of laughter because of something someone may say on the telephone to her, and then finds it hard to stop laughing, which is then infectious.

I enjoy my job, I enjoy the people I work with in our office and I enjoy the company of the people whom I deal with in the warehouse, some of which I have my lunch with.

I have learned lots whilst working here and will find the knowledge invaluable when I do finish.  

The Management are now brilliant, we did go though a really bad time when we had bad Management, but that has now changed but the company is now re-locating too far to travel each day.

It is not a bad place to work, other workers are friendly. The management team are always on hand to offer advice. Worse part of the job, standing in 1 spot for several hours at a time. Lifting some of the boxes onto the bench to process, can be hard, depending  on the amount of items (mainly clothes) inside, ranging from 1, yes 1, to over 100. It does get a bit tiring, and you only get 1 break, in the 8 hr shift. Another drawback some may find, is the fact shifts rotate weekly, 6am to 2pm, and 2pm to 10pm. There is a set night shift of 10pm to 6 am, next morning. The pay rate for night shift is £11.19 an hr, slightly less for other shifts. When you've been there so long, you have the chance to train for other roles in the factory, such as Q. C. quality control and other duties. If you are really good at your job, you could get taken on permanently, and wear a Clipper high vis jacket, instead of an agency 1. All in all, not a bad place to work.
