Probably the worst place I have ever worked. 
I was having problems in a previous job fighting an unfair dismissal which I eventually won, however I needed a part time job to keep me going, financially & mentally. I was confident that David Lloyd’s would be good for me but it ended up providing me with unnecessary stress from its pathetic staff and I picked up problems quite quickly.
Cliquey and very unwelcoming staff members (not all) but majority. Most were very stuck up and clearly think highly of themselves. Speaking to me like I was an idiot and very patronising even tho in my previous job I had worked on a busy a&e department and assisted doctors in surgery.. i think I can handle working a cr*ppy little receptionist job. I did not need to be spoke to like a child. And this happened regularly. 

Some staff were ok but definitely some issues with attitude and some take their job way too seriously. Just because you’re a manager at David Lloyd’s does not make you superior.. you got lucky in an interview do not try boss me about.
I knew this job wasn’t going to last, there was no chance I was going to be taking orders from the likes of these people. Laughable. 
I found the sales team pretentious and overly confident and noticed an attempt to bully/ intimidate me. This didn’t last long but had I being vulnerable this could of got serious. 
Any chance the staff got to humiliate me they jumped at, if it was demanding me to get a customer to fill out a survey that clearly no one wants to fill out, or make announcements on the microphone testing me for medical emergencies, they did this and all hid and giggled at me watching me make mistakes. They found it hilarious. Very close to walking out. 
I also noticed that the staff expected a lot of me for my role. Constantly running errands all over the gym sometimes felt like I was doing housekeeping’s job. Not allowed to sit down at all even if the gym is empty. So could be doing a 9 hour shift in formal shoes standing up all day. With a cr*ppy half hour break, whilst the sales team sit on their fat ar*es helping themselves to tea & coffee and never offering me anything.
Shift times were awful, they make sure to give you shifts you can’t work on days you requested not to and then when you question them you’re made to feel like you’ve let them down massively and owe them a favour. Also awful pay but expected this being retail. Definitely not worth the pay for how much running around and b*llshit you have to put up with from the awful customers. Clearly a very stuck up clientele is attracted being David Lloyd’s but Jesus the customers are absolutely vile. But you are expected to be devoted to the customers and try to deal with complaints no matter how rude they are. David Lloyd’s has a very pathetic approach. I’m sorry but sometimes the customer are not right. This is something a lot of staff at David Lloyd’s don’t realise. In previous retail jobs my supervisors and managers have had my back with rude customers but definitely not at David Lloyd’s.
Absolute zero support in all aspects. 

So a very negative mixture about the whole place its customers & staff mostly. I’m a people person and I really can’t tolerate people like this. It’s cost nothing to be a decent person. But yeah I would recommend avoiding David Lloyd’s unless you enjoy working in a very toxic environment.

This place has a huge turnover of staff with only 3 or 4 long term members of staff. when I started working here, it very quickly became clear why. The work load is unrealistic and the house are depressing, working 5 weekends with only 1 day of is not fun. They promise alot at the interview such as a good hourly rate and every second weekend off and full training but not one thing was followed threw. Promised so much an hour and to find out after I started that it was two pound lower than what they had promised (yes I should have went over my contract before signing it, the manager actually rushed me to sign it!). From previous work, I have the knowledge that the hours they give people are against government policy such as working 14 hours then 6 hours break only to start another 12 hour shift. I spoke with some other staff and found that they were salaried to 17 hours but the work load they were given took 24 hours, these extra hours were unpaid (this is an example of one). Some off the staff look very happy but most of them look over tired and over worked. When I made my choice to leave I spoke with one member of staff who had worked 60 hours a week for months and was only salaried to 37 hours. This place is so badly run that some of the departments lack what they need to provide a service that is expected, the manager of each department has to ask for what they need then this needs to be approved by higher managment (these are never approved and they end up getting stuff they do not need), this got that bad that departments were given the stuff they so desperately needed by david loyd gym members or had to buy it out their own pocket. i was able to speak with some members of staff from some different location over Scotland and found that this is not the case for any of the other David loyds in Scotland. The managers looked after their members of staff in these other branches and this could be seen in the body language and behaviour in the members of staff. I also spoke with one member of staff who still wanted to work with David loyds but felt they would need to move to do so due to work life within the Dundee branch. Im sickened that this kind if management is still able to run the way it does, if you go for a job here, please read up on the government guidlines on how many hours you need between shifts, how many overtime hours they can make you work with out pay (salary) and don't take their word of all the benefits you will get if you join "the team" and do not pay for things they should provide

I would avoid this job at all costs if you work in the hospitality department at Glasgow West End. 

For one, the higher ups all have a dislike towards this department. One manager I was ok with told me what their bosses were saying about the department. Basically saying we were all garbage, not bringing enough money in and wanted to get rid of everybody and close the food and drinks section down. 

You'll mainly be left alone in this job most of the time as they're on a budget and don't want to put money towards the hospitality department. You'll be responsible of running the kitchen on your own (in my first week and onwards), cooking and prepping everyone's orders, do ALL dishes, have everything labelled and prepared for the next days shift, clean the entire kitchen and fill out paper work all at the same time without little to no help. But, the managers don't think its  good enough. They want more out of you even if you're exhausted and no energy left by the end of your shift because you've done EVERYTHING on your own.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes other departments come and give you a little hand here and then to maybe run dishes through. They come and run through 3  plates.

But there is a couple of good things.. The staff are nice (some of them), but most go behind your back and have their little groups. You get a free gym membership and some other discounts here and there. I never used them much.

The gym itself was mediocre and falling apart. The building itself feels outdated as one thing is fixed and 2 things are broken. The ceiling in the restaurant is about to collapse due to a water bag capturing all the water splashing out of a spa directly upstairs above the floor near the bar area. 

For the amount of work you do and the pay you get and the little appreciation you get. I'd honestly just get a chef job elsewhere and one where you aren't left alone all the time. Save yourself the grief and stress. You won't be thanked or appreciated in the slightest. The turnover is high. EVERYONE leaves in that kitchen within weeks. It's a really really bad job and I can't emphasise that enough.

I will begin with the only negative being short work hours meaning that you don’t have a high wage if you work in the childcare side to it. 

Otherwise , this job was possibly the best job I have ever worked and if it wasn’t for the small hours I would have stayed here for the remainder of my days. 
I really enjoyed working in the kids club, crèche, holiday club, parties and the other events that we held for the children. It was always fun and you followed plans for each lesson and what you would do throughout the lessons. Although a lot of the time we would ask the older children what sport they would like to focus on and create games and activities surrounding the sport they would like to begin with (if it wasn’t a set sport). 
The holiday clubs were long days as you tend to do the evening sessions afterwards but it was worth it! They had so much fun and seeing the children having the best chilled out time was always good! The children would enjoy being able to do all the activities and the food they would have too. 
Parties were a bit difficult sometimes as you could feel out of place with parents wanting to do it all but they were fun and you could make a child’s birthday enjoyable. 

The actual workplace is amazing as you can make friends with people in so many different departments. You get a lot of bonuses such as a free membership and discount with the food and drinks along with a card for discount in certain stonegate chains. The parties and conferences they hold for celebrations are one to never miss too! 
If you want to do so there is ways to advance and train up to work in other departments too when I worked there many staff worked in multiple departments so there is ways to make your hours up but only if they had the space to do that with you. 
Management was never an issue as there was always a manager if you neeeed to speak to you could with there being so many different departments. 
The best part about the club was the air con it made you feel like you could always achieve your job as you never had to worry about being too warm in summer. 

The only word to describe how I felt during my employment at David lloyd is emotional bullied! I have never cried so much in all my years as a manager as I did in this role. Unrealistic measurements, expectations & targets.

The worse thing for me was the way my manager in the club spoke to me, and every other colleague, it was like I joined the army but 30 years ago. My manager didn’t even say goodbye or wish me well on my last day, she just left after her shift and is never to be heard from again. 

There is no respect for employees- you are just a number and you have to do as you’re told. 

The Sales teams are order takers not sales people. No negations are allowed to get the sale and if you do something not authorised, they take all your commission.

As a manager you are expected to coach your team weekly, but you never get coached yourself, even if you tell them you struggle with this, so the blind are leading the blind. 

The general management style is micro managing. Every figure which can be measured is and it’s to a whole new level. Managers are micro managed and you are expected to do it with your team. 

The feel of the club is dependant on your club manager. The feel at Southampton is very ‘clique’ and if you don’t make it into that, you will be personally attacked daily.

Long unsociable hours, and on top of this you are expected to maintain a level of fitness by using the David lloyd club and attending classes. 

You have to work 12+ hours at end of the month with no overtime or time back, at the Southampton club you aren’t even allowed to order a take away from outside (which we pay for) because there is a perfectly good kitchen! 

I feel so relieved to not work for David Lloyd anymore, and I would encourage anyone looking for a position to avoid it too. 

The money is okay (and will entice you in like it did for me) but for what you do there are jobs which are a lot better paid, and you won’t have constant anxiety about your job!

You honestly couldn’t pay me £1 million a year to maintain this job!

The job is an amazing job to do although it has some issues. 

As a Kids team member, the wage is amazing you are being paid for what you do. I enjoy the split shifts it means I can relax or get some university work done in between shifts. I love the fact we get free membership to the gym it has really helped me personally! 

Being able to do a job where you can pick up many extra's is brilliant it gives you the opportunity to do what you want when you want (other than your set contracted hours). There are so many things as a kids coach you can do from creche to parties so every day is not the same. 

The management is amazing and really help you out although sometimes they are too busy and it can be frustrating when you just want their help or attention.  

I really enjoy working in the creche or on lunch and swim at the holiday club as you get to socialise with the children in a more caring way. In creche, you can play and teach them things that they may want whereas in lunch and swim you can discuss how their days have been and really listen to how they feel about their swimming lesson instead of having to get on with the lesson plan. It is nice to let the children know you want to hear what they are doing or what they have had fun doing.

I'm not too keen on parties as I feel there is a lack of training for them. Parties can make you feel uncomfortable especially when you are unsure about what the party is until about an hour before when you are setting up.

The staff are all really friendly they have amazing personalities and you can always have an enjoyable shift no matter what. The management is really understanding and can help out when needs be.

The only con would be the communication side is not always up to speed and children's toilet breaks can be a pain when there are no other staff available. Other than that the job is brilliant. 

Otherwise, David Lloyd is an amazing company and if you were coming to work as a Kids Team Member I would highly recommend due to I personally love the job!

Two faced managers and lying of how good the company is a regular occurrence, promises of expansion and job opportunities but these are generally false promises for most. The department managers/directors should be ashamed of theirselves for the treatment of its staff.

It’s very clicky and the office lot often order pizza and coffee and don't allow any other departments to join in or bond. Senior Managers can't do a simple rota which leave alot of very unhappy staff plus they will manipulate the rota to suit their personal lives and whats is best for there "Friends and Favorites" so we suffer.

 
Managers are self-obsessed with hitting unrealistic targets and the workers suffer, if you say something you are singled out and attacked like a pack of wolfs and you are and will be made out to be a liar at any costs.Management bangs on about how the rules need to be stuck too, yet they are the ones who bend the rules to please people.
The help you receive is laughable at best and if it doesn't suit them then it simply doesn't happen.
 
Don't be fooled into thinking you have opportunities to progress in the company, these are held for managers "friends" and some roles are filled with people who are clearly not suited for the role. They promised so much but only delivered disappointment. Always being give more and more but not allowed any help. ( only get help if your one of the hand picked) they take and take and take and will give nothing back not even a thank you. They talk the talk but they cannot walk the walk. Your just a number to them you’re not even considered a human being as far as they are concerned. I can remember literally crawling out of the end of my shifts on numerous occasions as i was just so tired I could never use their facilities not even for a simple swim/gym again as I was just too tired after my shifts. 

 This saddens me to write this, i was in tears after i was unfairly dismissed for something i didn't do there and then later banned form there site.

I never write bad reviews but I feel that this is a must.

Part Time (20 Hours per week)
Assessment of orthopaedic and soft tissue injuries.
Treating clients with agreed treatment regimes and clinic guidelines.
Progressive treatment of the client and maintaining therapeutic relationship with the clients.
One to one application and instruction of progressive and safe rehabilitation exercises.
Personal training one to one of clients taking into consideration of their capabilities and progression.
Deliver superior level of Customer service satisfaction for clients receiving treatment and rehabilitation advice.
Referring clients to recommended health practitioners, when required.
Seek guidance from other health professionals such as doctors and head physiotherapist regarding client progress and
reporting changes.
Maintaining the administrative duties within the clinic, keeping confidential and concise electronic and paper records.
Maintaining a clean and safe environment, with all equipment working sufficiently.
Responsible for maintaining health and safety in the gym through monitoring of equipment maintenance contracts,regular equipment checks and teaching physiotherapists to ensure competence to use the gym equipment.
Undertook routine and general light cleaning/tidying tasks within departmental clinical areas.
Undertook administrative tasks particularly related to record keeping, filing, supplies, errands and message taking in consultation with physiotherapy staff.
Continually reassess patients in order to progress treatments effectively
Using own clinical judgement and knowledge in regards to progressing and/or modifying treatment programmes within agreed clinical protocols and parameters.
Worked unsupervised by a physiotherapist for majority of time.
Responsible for competent use and maintenance of all equipment used, to report defects in equipment in a timely manner.
Prepare and clean equipment used in treatment.

Lack of communication and understanding from management ,no lunch breaks ,not enough staff ,very poor working conditions , over worked for very poor wages , and sometimes wrong pay is given because lack of care .Very fast turn over of staff because to many managers not understand what is needed to become a manager .The customers do not come first like is advised at the interview and the feeling of being used is felt from most staff who are frightened to speak up because they need a job All staff are under paid and over worked , and it is so sad to think of this lovely building and top class facilities being run by very un happy staff who most want to leave after a few days when they see just what goes on .I feel so sorry because if people were paid a decent wage , they would be able to build a great team who would feel appreciated and i feel sure this would have a tremendous affect on the staff moral .Never time for lunches or breaks , which in my eyes is a must , if only to get away from the working enviroment , it would help staff feel much better . I was offered a free membership when i worked there and for all the time i was there i was far too tired , i crawled out of work , having had no lunch and feeling far to tired to even go for a swim . drastic , changes need to happen and you must think very hard before taking on a role here .
some very nice people work at the David Lloyd , but very few know that in the big wide world they will be respected more and cared for when a company knows you have qualities they will want to keep you , not treat you like a door mat .I know that if your just starting out in your working life this place will put you off , but please remember you will be respected and appreciated do not let this place put you off , your next job will be so different ..I just wish money was spent on proper training and that customer comments were listened too .i have never wrote a negative comment before but feel this one is a must , and it deeply saddens me .

I worked in David Lloyd sales department for 2 months because I couldn’t bear to carry on for any longer. The manager is very nicey nice at the start and as soon as the end of the month comes and you’ve settled in, it changes. There’s a lot of pressure at the end of the month to hit targets and the manager soon gets on your back even when you’re new and still learning the job.

When the regional manager plans to come in and your manager realises she’s hardly done any work and then pressures the rest of the staff in the office. A lot of threats towards me and the other new member of staff ‘if you don’t get 20 sales in 10 days I’m going to have to sack one of you or both.’ A lot of pressure and an hostile working environment especially when you’re still learning the job and making a couple of mistakes. Manager would go and get her nails done when she’s supposed to train you and hardly receiving any training in club and I got most of mine from normal staff. 

You get promised all these benefits of a free membership for one other person which you don’t even get until your probation is up. You’re expected to come in on your days off to make calls when you already do 40 hours a week and feel like you have no work- life balance. Also don’t forget to mention the selling comes with a bit of dishonesty at DL and some false promises. To top it off I hit my target the previous month and I got shouted at for ‘stealing’ four of my managers sales when there were no notes she spoke to them and I had no idea. She then proceeded to say they weren’t going to be commissionable as if she got those four she would of hit her target. Manager very commission driven and only look out for themselves, hence the pressure to hit target so SHE gets her bonus.
