When I first started 2 years ago this job was great. It was a fun work environment and I enjoyed coming in to work. My first manager was essentially asked to leave the store so they could hire someone new, even though she had done nothing at all to get dismissed from her role. We then waited about 6 months before we had any sort of manager in the store.

The equipment in the store was below adequate, on one occasion the fridge broke and we waited almost a year before it was replaced, violating food hygiene standards on several occasions.

Over time the restrictions on staff became so much that we got a complaint about being too happy in the store, for creating a fun working environment. From that point on the store became restricted and we got in trouble for having even a 2.5% margin in our food costs. The store became a miserable environment to work in and I began to dread coming in to work.

The store is understaffed and underpayed for the job that the fuel management team asked of us. On several occasions many staff members have been left alone in the store the whole day, making it impossible to even take a break or go to the store room to get more stock. 

On my last day working at fuel I was left on my own at a weekend because we were understaffed and, although you know this is a stressful job before you start, the stress levels became so much that I cried in front of the massive queue of customers. Luckily the customers at the store are very understanding, one of which proceeded to give me a hug and offered to wash jugs for me. With this in mind, a complete stranger understands the staffing situation while the management team continues to ignore it. I repeat, A STRANGER KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS THE STAFFING SITUATION WHILE THE FUEL MANAGEMENT TEAM CONTINUES TO IGNORE IT!

This speaks volumes to me. If you are thinking about joining fuel, my advice is to avoid it like the plague! (Although this advice will not help the understaffing situation, it will save you from months of working in a horrible and unnecessarily stressful working environment.)

I worked part time at Fuel Juice Bars whilst also studying full time at university. The manager of the store was amazing and often worked around peoples social lives and personal lives for the rotas, but area managers and higher were not at all supportive or helpful. We often asked for help and were ignored for weeks on end whilst they focused on their higher performing stores unless there was a problem that affected the money going into their own pockets.
During my year and a half with the company, the area manager was changed around over 3 times and they were never bothered about staff welfare or the communication between head office and the rest of the staff.
There is a lot of heavy lifting and the stock rooms are often far away from the main bar meaning lugging heavy stock through bustling city centres. 
The menus and prices changed constantly which lead to having to deal with customer complaints on a daily basis and this inconsistency eventually led to our store being closed a drinks went from a reasonable £3.50 to a ridiculous £5 for a drink. The kids drinks and some of the newer power smoothies were pre-packaged and the smoothies contain juice from a carton with sweeteners and this again led to many complaints as people expect the freshest fruit and the best ingredients in their supposedly healthy juices and smoothies.
The KPIs were forced on us every day with us having to perform to a certain level to keep the area managers happy but this never came with any bonuses so you're often slogging away trying to up sell products for no reason other than to line the pockets of the owners and management and there was therefore no incentive.
I had fun whilst at work and the rest of my team were amazing and we were like a little family and we still get together now, so although there are many negatives, the teams are always great and often care more for the company than those higher up.

They train their teams to give super friendly service with a smile, make fresh juices/smoothies and make sure the customer leaves with a BIG smile on their face!!


The job is quite fast paced so you need to have some energy and enthusiasm in you, or this is quite simply not the job for you!! I thrived in it. 
We had music playing, store competitions and our manager did fun games - I'll always remember dressing up as a giant strawberry for student lock in night!!! 


The team I worked with were brilliant, always happy and smiling & making sure the customer was always happy was a priority.

Coming from a fast food background I was used to the fast pace and it was so nice to go home smelling of fresh orange juice (rather than chips like I did before!!!). 


I love smoothies and juices, which is why I joined Fuel. I learnt so much whilst I was there and it has really helped set me up for my working life - I'm hoping they will open a branch in the town I am moving to! 

If you're energetic, full of beans, love giving great service and working as part of a team then I would absolutely recommend trying to join the Fuel family.

From the start, you receive training on how to deliver great customer service. Starting from the moment when a customer approaches the counter to the very end, when the customer receives their drink and leaves. 

It is a fast paced type of environment to work in. You're on your feet all day, so it can get tiring but at the same time, It is a fun and energetic environment to work in. You have music playing which creates a great atmosphere for both the staff and customers. 

While on your shift, you are allowed to make yourself a smoothie which is great! You also get a 30 minute break.

You do have to prep quite a bit of fresh fruit to make sure you have enough for the whole day. As its a busy environment its better to be prepared for the day.

What I think is really good, is that managment and head office visit stores to make sure everyone is alright and notice when an individual is doing a good job. Progression is definitely there. If you work hard you are praised and rewarded for it. I have been in previous jobs which I didn't get any recognision for my hard work. It is a very close company, everyone is involved and valued. 

Overall it is a good place to work and a good company to work for, especially if you thrive on customer service.

I'd start my day at 8am by fetching stock and preparing the fruit for the day before other staff arrived. I would clean all surfaces and jugs ready for customers, I would usually get my first customers around 8:45 and they would usually order breakfast smoothies made with, mik, strawberries and granola.

I learnt to effectively organise to make my day easier. I learnt clean as you go and i also used to get certain staff on certain station depending on their particular strengths.

I found that the manager took the time to train me up to superviser and that he gradually taught me all the skills i needed to know, eventually he hardly came into work as i would cash up the tills, do the staff rota, deal with any complaints. I had to write emails and letters and keep the staff motivated for our mystery shoppers.

My co-workers made my days enjoyable they would come to me with suggestions for new smoothies and i would enjoy trying them as they helped keep the company going for as long as it did.

I found the hardest part of the job to be dealing with paperwork and customers who wanted to speak to the manager and not being able to tell them when he would be in there.

The part of the job i enjoyed best were the staff i trained and the experiences i gained.

This seemed like a good job when I started however after I was employed it started to go downhill and I realised all the negatives of working here. 

Shortly after starting I was left in myself (sometimes for an entire shift). They rarely had enough staff so shifts were often stressful. I found that me and regular members of staff would often have to take on jobs made for supervisors/managers etc but still get paid less which I felt was really unfair. 

Particularly at the store I worked at there was hardly any toilet facilities and they’d often be too busy to use or too dirty. 

After handing in my notice I was treated terribly by managers, I was ignored, had my last shifts taken away with no communication even though I was contracted certain hours. 

After contacting my manager and then a higher manager they still REFUSED to give me my last payment for working and said they were “withholding” it. I never received it so worked for nothing. 

And lastly it was absolutely freezing cold to the point staff would wear hats/scarves/gloves etc while working and still be shivering.

Fuel Juice Bars is an excellent company to work for; particularly if you are a young and ambitious person looking to make a career for yourself in the hospitality and catering sector. Everybody in the company is tightly knit and support is always a phone call away if you ever need it. 

The daily routine within the store is simplistic and easily managed provided you don't mind being on your feet all day and working within a fast paced environment. The company place a big emphasis on customer service so if you like interacting with people then a job with Fuel would be ideal. My colleagues emulated these traits so the working environment was always a happy one.

The management team are highly experienced and offer constant support at all levels. The Head Office team are the best I've ever worked under and provide training on operational controls/KPI's. They promote from within as much as possible so there are always opportunities to move up. 

Overall, if you are a bubbly, sociable, ambitious person then Fuel are an excellent choice to start a career with.

I learned many skills in my time at Fuel. I think Fuel is a good employer with good opportunities. I started off as a basic juicer with hardly any customer service skills and they helped me work my way up from the bottom, up the career ladder becoming a supervisor and also gave me opportunity to get some managerial experience.

Fuel is a fun environment and always try to find new ways in which they can make the job enjoyable for employees. During the summer period we took part in 'Fuel Fest' every single Saturday every store would have a different theme and each staff member would dress up and decorate the juice bar and play different games with customers allowing them to win free drinks and gain exclusive discounts.

The hardest part of the job would have to be learning all smoothies at the start but once you learn them all, the hard part is over with. The best part about Fuel would have to be my colleagues, they made each day enjoyable.

I recently worked at Fuel as a Supervisor and enjoyed the role. The team really make it worth while, enthusiastic members of staff make for a great day. The store I worked in had a rubbish part time supervisor who worked there for 1.5 years and the sales were really bad. When I began I came up with fresh and innovative ideas to improve sales and store performance, but theres a lack of support from head office. They tend to focus on the good performing stores and give little support to the ones struggling. The free drinks are a great perk and great for passing on knowledge to customers, but I couldn't work as a juicer. Supervisors have a lot more to do and a lot more responsibilities which keeps the day fresh and time passes quicker too.

I started with this company just over a year ago as a part time juicer on a 12 hour contract along with my other 20 hour job. After only a few months I was promoted to full time supervisor and a few months later promoted to store manager. 

I believe this is an incredible company to work for. With regular management meetings/celebrations, although it is a very large, growing company, makes it feel like you're part of one huge family! 

This is a very flexible company to work for - great for students! It is a very fast paced environment to work in, but with the right team it's an extremely fun and easy job. 

There is huge support from other stores, area managers, and everyone else at Fuel, making it a great place to progress and learn new skills. And you get a free smoothie or two every shift, what's not to love?!
