Arrive at office pick up answer email queries call tenants update on works or to inform them of start dates what ever tenants needed to know I would make sure on daily basic of this to all open properties or even when properties are due to start.

I would get all properties file booklets and information together for on site visits either a complaint or doing a full survey on individual
properties details choice in which a kitchen designer would attend on weekly basic to survey 10 properties ready to be programmed in on framework programme in which was rout planed in area code . As to where and when working.
Once I have details
Of properties I would contact by phone and letter and book in for full survey along with kitchen designer and go out visiting properties.
Then I would scan all details onto framework with all knowledge of properties details and choice and highlight special needs or variation works that may be going on.
I would attend weekly progress meeting high lighting anything that may need extra attention or raise concerns on tenant whom may be having difficulties whilst on going work and would need extra care to ensure work is carried out to suit them.

I could be in meeting with housing ref new change to suppliers or even on site personal visit along with housing management to assist in what ever was needed .

I would contact daily sub contractors as to where when time of arrival as tenants do call to find out so thay to can plan there day .

So be for work would start I would start with properties address contact them arrange pre visit and do profile details along with surveying them, relating all profiles to site manager with discussion on needs for programme .

Then when work is ongoing I would be on call to any tenant whom would be needing help whist work on going or I would just be a friendly face making sure tenants are ok with works or even answering any complaints that may arise,

At the end of the day I would make sure all open properties were aware of whom was calling the next day to ensure no abort calls by trades, to make sure tenants are also in for the day worked booked in for so we have a schedule running to programme by trades and tenants .

I also would go out to site to get satisfaction survey as complexion of works are checked and to ensure tenant is 100 per cent happy with work and closure would then be done with assistant from housing management to obtaining hand over.

I started working for Ian Williams as a Trainee Surveyor in the Cardiff office, and was allocated a mentor to shadow and learn from, although everyone in the office was more than willing to help out. The trainee programme is very focused and there is input from all levels (surveyors to directors), you get the impression that everyone is routing for you. As part of the focused programme of training I was placed on a six month secondment to the Southampton office, once I had been with the company for 2 years. During this time I was still able to contact the team in the Cardiff office if I had any questions, and they were all supportive of my learning. The team in the Southampton office were very welcoming and have also helped me progress. Both offices have a great atmosphere with encouraging and supportive colleagues, and no two days are ever the same.

The work can be challenging but you will be provided with the tools and support required to succeed. As a surveyor you will get a buzz from pricing and securing works and making profit. With your day to day tasks including client meetings, overseeing the financial aspects of the contracts (from subcontractors to invoicing clients). 

There are plenty of opportunities for career progression with a lot of the managers and directors having worked their way up, and a lot of the workforce have been with the company for over 20 years, some have even been around for over 40 years!

Ian Williams is a great place to work, i have been here for several years starting as a trainee. Ian Williams give you the support to take on new challenges and to develop your skills, The various functions around the business such as H&S, Business Development, Commercial will always support you where necessary.

There are always good days and always bad days, the great thing about working here is, Ian Williams will always assist and support you through the bad. 

A typical week as a surveyor includes visiting site to check on progress and agree a valuation with a client, meeting with new clients to secure new works, office work to update internal spreadsheets etc... I was told when i started that "no two days are the same" and this statement is true.

This company does not have a blame culture, rather they support staff when errors are made, they encourage you to be sucsessful and promote progression. 

The most enjoyable part of working here is the accountability and responsibility of owning your own projects, nobody micromanages and they let you manage your own work. Senior managers are understanding of personal circumstances and will always accommodate your situation.

Overall, a great company to work for if you want to challenge yourself and if you want to progress in your career.

A typical day at Ian Williams you start up with 50 emails about trying to Persuade Head Office to allow a unit to purchase a item cheaper from a non supplier. Then you have to find the correct forms to fill out after they amend it for the 10th time. There is a lot of competitive culture where head office creates tallies and tables who has done the most work. Everyone is trying to out do their colleagues to be noticed by the directors. 
The Management is too top heavy that during my time people/departments were suddenly disappearing and new outsourced companies where being used. Ian Williams has contingency plans they know what type of business they want to be you just need to know if your job is going to be in it. 
If you do not fit in the workplace by standing up for your self you will get bullied. 
The hardest part of the job is to meet the demands the management has set last minute because they have to much to do the work has been forgotten about so to keep the client happy they make you work through your lunch or make you feel bad for having lunch. 
The enjoyable time was back in the first years of working for Ian Williams when they were a small family run company. 

The Company provides plenty of opportunity to progress and this is evident when you look at where many of senior Management started their careers. The basic pay is not exceptional however there are many additional perks including use of company vehicles and performance reward. I have worked for five Business Managers. Every one of them has always given me time whenever I asked. They are attentive and supportive. The ethos is to improve performance rather than punish mistakes wherever possible. The most difficult part of the job recently has been maintaining a good work/life balance due to staff illness/shortages. This isn't always the case, and again my Managers are the first to tell me to speak up if I need support. The relationship between site staff and office staff could improve, and this will require input from the office staff who need to provide site with confidence in their targets and planning. The most enjoyable part of the job in my opinion is handing over a high quality job where everyone involved has been able to exceed targets and earn bonus for a happy client.

Very good company in the past, sadly this has now changed. you no longer have a say in any matter regardless of your experience, typical day is split between office and site (you will get multiple calls from the office asking where you are even though you told your manager), training programmes are very good, a good set of people but massively let down by useless managers. workplace culture is not the best, morale is forever down. enjoyable part of the job WAS being able to freely meet your clients, visit your sites etc although they officially 'promote' this, the local managers prefer to have you sat at a desk all day doing there job. Blame culture is wild here, individuals will not act unless a email is sent to them, meetings are full of people reporting and talking about what they are having for dinner rather than what works actually need doing. Like i said, once a enjoyable place to work but a depressive place at the moment. Has the potential to revert but not with some of the current managers in place.

This company has gradually fallen to its lowest over the past years since movement was made with management, from employing anyone with no qualifications or common sense to promoting people within the company putting them in charge of engineers that doesn’t even have the right credentials for even applying for the job! Moral was at its lowest from poor management organisation, lack of listening regarding jobs and locations and not taking on board and listening to what the engineers had to say even when it was regarding H & S.Unless you’re a “yes” person you won’t last. A few good  engineers that still work there but they need them to follow around the ones that cause recalls and for some reason aren’t sent back! Very disappointing in the end as the only thing that management were concerned about was cutting overtime, call-outs and making you travel more in your own time and making sure their big bonus  was secure at the end of the year. Oh they pay on time. 

I don’t even really know where to begin, firstly the company as a whole is horrible to work for there’s 0 trust between workers and higher ups due to false promises such as bonuses or promises to cater to your needs. The pay is alright but if you decide to join as a apprentice leave as fast as possible there’s no point spending the full two years due to the simple fact that you will not have the opportunity to get the training you need you will be laid off work when there’s no convince for managers to find you work or people to pick you up, if you are considering joining here as an apprentice and hoping to get through it you won’t there’s just simply not enough opportunities that management can offer to get you through the end point assessment. Also i’d like to mention the clear bias within management and certain workers like being given months of time off a year and all the good jobs such a joke.
