I worked in the Retail shop and ticketing during the peak summer.Zero hours contract,no organisation.The management didn't support the staff especially at peak times within the ticketing.We were having to deal with customers face to face and people would say what a lovely place to work.We,the staff, knew it was awful.Other departments wouldn't help the shop and many retail staff in the shop were back biting each other . When this was identified to the Manager it was ignored .
Some really good staff were there but most have left because of the negativity in the retail shop.I feel for the ones who are left..HR department,there isn't any.Heligan are certainly behind the times.It makes me angry to think what we all went through before I left.

This role required a great level of competence and integrity. Within this role, it was crucial to maintain excellent standards of customer service at all times, even when under pressure. This role required me to produce barista style coffee, prep and serve food, handle money, cash up, maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, perform stock rotation, and provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for visitors and staff alike. Working at Heligan during the summer months has prepared me for working in very busy environments.  
During my time at Heligan I received barista training from Origin, and I also have a certificate in basic Food Hygiene and Safety.

Management are a complete mess with an ugly 'us and them' attitude.  No appreciation given to staff and appalling zero hours contracts given to everyone with no flexibility given to the 'employee'.  they give you the absolute minimum they can legally get away with and no more. No one knows what is going on even though they are ridiculously management heavy. Recently changed to being overly money focused which is completely ruining the historical charm of the place.  Moving too far from its origins, its now almost unrecognisable from the original 'discovery'.

Hours are often 40-50 hours during summer and Christmas holidays. The rest of the year you get a ‘contract break’ without much notice or any! 
They don’t care how much commitment you have had for the company, they will always pick their favourites to progress. 

0 hours contracts, no training given, and yet management still expected high sales. Not enough staff to cover busy periods but when it was quiet you could be sent home after 2hours. Absolutely in love with the place and love coming here as a visitor but disliked working under the certain manager at the time. Such a shame because there are a couple of managers higher up who are amazing and really care about this place.

Underpaid massively for the work that’s completed.
Undervalued by managers and supervisors who do nothing except sit in offices moaning about the shortness of staff and the capability of the staff they have instead of helping.
Made to work in extreme conditions such as  unbearable heat which they don’t seem to care about.
A lot of criticism and comments made behind people’s backs by other colleagues including managers and supervisors.
Overall, not an ideal place to work 
Trust no one there!



Great place to work for friendly staff and customers. Management very poor, waste money and materials every day. It’s a glorified pasty shop, the gardens are neglected, there is not enough staff on the ground and more people sitting around in offices. The workshop is dangerous and very little attention given to health and safety even though a lot of work has gone into risk assessments and method statements but they are generally ignored.

Flexible hours, lovley people, wonderful place, not just a summer job any more, lot of discounts, always a friendly word!
YES it is bussy in the peak times but we all can make a difference to the guests and to our colleges!
But like always the communication between some parts of the staff would be better!!

Working here was a part time job while i was living in Cornwall. It was very stressful working there, because it was so badly run, and the management were useless. There was a lot of unneeded drama, and a lot of the people there were arrogant. There were a few nice people, and some high up people were lovely, however it is certainly not the job for me.

I worked here for a very brief time. One manager liked my work and said I was doing well, the other fired me on grounds that he believed I didn't smile enoughed (note-iget told all I do is smile). One of the managers are not staff friendly at all.
