Worked in Telecomms for 40 years mainly with BT, this job for Quinns was taken just to get me to retirement, well what a shock i got , for a start working for this cowboy outfit really emphasised what a great company BT were to work for . Quinns are nothing but a bunch of chancers taking advantage of anybody who has the misfortune to think they may have a career with them . The training is a joke , 1 week of passing tests a 4 year old could pass just so they can tick a box to let you loose on the network , if you leave within a certain time they will dock you the cost of this "training" !!! . If you sit down and work out the hours you've worked against the money you earn minus the fuel you need to put in the van its barely minimum wage You get paid per job you complete meaning you have to get out of the van in all weathers to earn any money , if the weathers good then you'll earn but if it rains the protection they give you is pathetic , you'll end up soaked trying to protect keep the delicate equipment you are working on and with. Be very aware any damage to equipment is charged down to you and you will pay full price , same with damage to the van , all down to you . To ensure they get their money they just deduct from your wages , if you leave money is deducted to pick your van up plus any damage to tools is also deducted plus any damage to the van. If you're early twenties and just starting out and don't know what its like to work for a proper company with sick and holiday pay , annual leave etc then you have nothing to compare against , i have and i can assure you Quinns are simply the worst i have ever had the misfortune of working for , if you can avoid , go and work for any of the supermarkets as they will surpass the low bar Quinns have set. 


I recently had the pleasure of interacting with a truly exceptional assistant who far exceeded my expectations. From the moment I reached out for assistance, their helpful and gentle demeanor was apparent, making the entire experience a positive one.

What stood out the most about this assistant was their unfaltering patience. They took the time to listen attentively to my needs, ensuring that they fully understood what I was looking for. No question or concern went unanswered, as they provided clear and comprehensive explanations, guiding me through every step of the process with ease.

Moreover, their friendly nature made them incredibly approachable. There was never a moment where I felt hesitant to ask for further clarification or assistance. Their warm and welcoming attitude fostered an environment of trust and openness, allowing me to communicate freely without any reservations.

Their knowledge and expertise were evident, as they consistently provided accurate and reliable information. Whether it was answering complex queries or suggesting helpful alternatives, their guidance was always on point. They went above and beyond to ensure that all my requirements were met, offering suggestions and solutions tailored specifically to my preferences.

Overall, my experience with this assistant was nothing short of exceptional. I wholeheartedly recommend their services to anyone seeking assistance, as they possess the perfect combination of friendliness, patience, and expertise. With their support, any task or challenge becomes less daunting, leaving you feeling reassured and confident that you are in capable hands.

MJ Quinn is a lovely place to work, full of really helpful people the workload is not over extensive and in my experience people are really ready to listen to any potential problems and create solutions together. I’ve also found that the hierarchy are very approachable and again, eager to help.whilst advancement is available please note that you will be charged for any training undertaken if you leave the business in the following two years. 
You really have to be sure that you can work with the salary you negotiate at interview stage as any increase in salary needs approving by the board which is almost always a no.

They also normally have a Christmas and Summer events that the company pays for and occasional office treats involving perks at work and also take part in the medicash giving money off things like optical and dental appointments.

Most of the business also operate a Christmas shut down, but the teams this doesn’t include receive the holidays in lieu.

The reason I and 2 others left the business was due only to salary and benefits. 
I do believe they now pay sick(but double check this) and please check any paternal/ maternity leave as this was only standard maternity whilst I was there. 

I got paid lots of money to drive about vaping, drinking coffee and listening to DnB; I also provided and restored telephone and internet services for members of the public. What was not to Love...

I left to focus my attention onto other areas of my life, but looking back, feel an enormous amount of respect and gratitude for everyone in the MJ Quinn family. MJ Quinn gave me a job and an opportunity when I was in debt after graduating from my Masters. The opportunity was to earn decent money while learning to do something complicated, useful and worthwhile for society. I spent 2 years with MJ Quinn, and it wasn't an easy path to walk but neither is mountaineering and people do that ;)

It is true, telecommunication engineering is not for the faint hearted, work-shy or lazy, but if you like working independently in the great outdoors, are a bit of a grafter, have a keen eye for detail and want to learn trades that are as rewarding as they are fascinating, then MJ Quinn are a fantastic shout!

And if it all goes awry in my life with my new plans, I won't hesitate to call up the ladies in the office and ask politely if MJ Quinn will give me a job again.

After working for a few years at Openreach, I left to travel. On returning, I joined Quinn’s to  do a similar job. The culture at Quinn’s is not a caring one. 

You’re a contractor who is not employed directly by Quinn’s and it’s clear to see why…. Someone dings your van, you pay, they ‘give’ you a work phone, you pay for it, blow a brick, you pay. 

It’s quite a brutal outfit who have a strange idea of health & safety that is clearly designed to make you liable for any non-compliance but they set you up to fail by sometimes demanding an amount of  work off you that’s impossible to deliver without breaking various safety protocols. About 80% of what they churn out on the training course I’ve never witnessed anyone doing. 

It is very much every man for himself and Quinn’s have covered all bases to protect themselves. No start time, no finish time, no lunch break, very little support, any damage to your van you pay for, any mistake made you pay for, blow a brick, you pay for. If you’re desperate for a job, it’ll do but there’s a reason they have a high turnover of engineers….. 


I provide customers with their phoneline/broadband in their homes or businesses. I review my work area; house, flat, business offices, buildings to see if its safe. I proceed to identify whether a connection of a number is possible through protocol testing from exchanges to the customer. I have learned that every job is very different even though our applications are exactly the same. It's different because the locations of where we need to terminate a connection and the people I meet which are all different and unique in their own way. Management is supportive and give us adequate insight on issues we may encounter. Every engineer is considered self-employed so the interaction among us are minimal, but when we need assistance on a job there are engineers that will immediately give assistance within the area. The hardest part of my job is not being able to rectify  connections that I do not have a control of.
The most enjoying part of my job is the reactions and gratitude I see and get from customers when I am finished providing them with a phoneline and Broadband. I also enjoy working to achieve my goal on every job.

Even though I'd worked in the industry a few years ago I assumed I'd be trained on my new job. That didn't happen.
Was given no actual job other than driving to sites and letting the enginers use the hoist to complete their work.
After a month or so management were phoning me to say I needed to be more proactive in finding work so I'd phone the engineers but if they didn't need me I'd just end up driving around until it was aceptable to go home for the day.
This went on for around six months, gradually getting busier but I feel that if I'd had training I would have been much more productive, thus earning my wage but I wasn't given training. The contract I was working on came to an end so I was made redundant but when I handed my spotless van back I was charged for damage caused by the engineers while they were using the hoist even though I informed management verbally and by email.
I don't think I'd ever go back to work for these clowns unless I was desperate.
The sad thing is that if the management had given me the appropriate training I could have been more productive.

You do your training course for either a week or two which is more MJ Quinn just telling you the correct answers so everybody passes and you’re banged to rights, Then once you’re out on your own away from your buddy it is definitely a sink or swim type of job.

I could never get hold of my manager when I needed help or advice, you get paid per job and it’s usually a 50:50 chance you can complete each job so you never know if each job will get you paid. I was coming out with roughly the same or lower weekly wage on my own than when I was buddied up. The stress this job causes is not worth it to anybody and I would strongly advise against going to MJ Quinn as You don’t know if you’ll come home with £10 in a day or £200

I handed my notice in and didn’t hear a thing from my manager until I put a complaint in. I then got charged £350 for van damage which should have been down to wear and tear.
This company will take as much money off you when you love as possible so I’d advise to be sensible and photograph everything before handing back.

i loved the job!!
a typical day, get up at 6am like always, and wake up stepdaughter to get ready to school. at 06:50am leave home with stepdaughter and drop her out at bus stop, go to first client and be ready so at 08:00am knock at the door from 1st client and go from there.
as i was geting paid by job, i would try to complete as many as posible and once finnish, would ring my beautifull partner to see if we needed any suplies and go home to my lovely family. now the contract finnished am looking for some company to take me on board
at the moment my family a little bit down because they worried with me not having a job because they know i dont like to be home doing nothing, so i have to stay positive for them and keep looking !!
TO ALL THE EMPLOYERS, WHEN U HIRE ME, YOU HIRE SOMEONE RESPONSIBLE, HARD WORKING MAN THAT DOES HIS BEST TO NEVER LET THE COMPANY DOWN !!

When the work dries up you are left with no income and I have been fighting for 2 weeks to get my last 3 weeks of pay, this has put me into debt and now I am having to go small claims route for money owed.
I was picking up a lot of work last year and helping out when other engineers went sick etc but over Christmas work dropped to just 2 or 3 jobs a day and I was still paying 100-150 a week average on diesel. then had pay withheld (this is common practice after being stood down when not a job all day)
I have been promised part release of funds almost everyday for 2 weeks and this has now put me into debt with no work.
Very stressful to try and claim back.
Earned very good money 700-1k for few weeks but average it out and take of diesel and lean weeks around 250 a week.
I have contracted for 3 years since leaving BT and this is the worst company for paying out
