Worked via agencies with 3 different menzies outfit, doing night trunking, advertised as no handball, 2-3 drops p.shift, long runs not local- promise you what the job description is prior to getting you on the books, then it changes to suite their own failed planning and failures- ended up multi-dropping 6 only 13m away, wrong addresses and wrong order numbers, man-handling unload/reload with pump truck while their warehouse staff sat on forklifts and watched (I refused and low and behold their forklifts did the whole turnaround in 45 min while I was on my break). They think offering decent money will keep you there as the conditions and work description get worse.
Always deceiving and always messing the planning up. 
Their priority is their warehouse staff over c1 professional drivers, expecting you to be alert and vigil on a 12hr shift and work unloading on your legal break-Ive even been asked once as a night driver to come in at 2pm but don't use my tacho until 4pm!!!! 
This company is always on a c1 driver recruitment drive, this is not because they have more work (they still have the same amount of wagons) its because they cant keep drivers due to conditions-tells you everything you need to know in a nutshell.They then give you a driver written test-WE HAVE PASSED AND BEEN APPROVED BY THE UK GOVERNMENT, OUR CARDS CAN BE DOWNLOADED AND HISTORY/INFRINGEMENTS CHECKED_WHO ARE THEY TO RETEST ME-their test proves nothing anyway, we are the only ones with a professional government recognised qualification yet they prejudiced against us as they dont make office staff do O-level english tests or cleaners do cleaning tests,or warehouse staff do 12 hrs and tell them to work on their breaks cleaning the yard or polishing their pump trucks-all to save paying night warehouse staff as they think they can use drivers to do their job in the warehouse- we drive deliver the load safely from A-B not work in a warehouse in between on our breaks, are they above the UK government test standards? their test proves nothing

This is happy family run business. Only if you are family member of management. Dodgy doctor notes & light duty notes, full pay sick, vanishing from work departents for long periods of times, supervisors acting like they don't see anything and when you question it they laugh you off and say it never happened then they give you extra duties so it keeps you busy. If you are a woman and had to visit ladies room at some time a month more often, you get questioned, what makes the situation more embarassing when explaining to man supervisor. Not mentioning getting pregnant. Supervisor are busy being busy yet unable to complete simplest tasks without 20 calls and asking numerous people what to do yet they are very active and impressingly talented to pick on wrong people and bully them. Managers of departments are not interested whatsoever to even find 2 minutes to talk, and try to resolve issues. Most of the times they are arrogant and rude. 
The place is overall depressing as people are being over worked for very poor wage. 12h on your feet with 30 minute break (unpaid) is a joke.
Management once tried to brainwash us with their presentation. Talking about billions of profits company earned yet they keep us working for minimum wage it's like spitting to our faces, laugh and kick into us in one. On one notice board there was a picture of a man wearing Menzies uniform saying "wear it with pride". DON'T! When you stop at the corner shops or even supermarkets to do shopping after work, wearing Menzies uniform you get backlash from owners/managers for late deliveries, missing credits, nobody pick up phones & nobody calls back. I feel very sorry for our customers because they are being treated wrongly and unfairly. Menzies don't care about their customers and workers. Menzies cares only about profits.

Gave this company another chance. Was something different everyday however, the staff, supervisors and management did not seem to understand the basics of working time directive. I was told to be at work for 5 am after completing an 18 hour shift due to a huge error that another driver made. I finished the shift at 9pm which I had started at 3am. Back in for 5am? Of course I told them no and was challenged on this? Reason for it being No is working time directive. Must average an 11 hour rest period daily over two weeks and over a month. I was told that drivers hours don’t affect me and that I needed to be in! Of course drivers hours don’t affect a driver of such a light vehicle but it seemed to me that some didn’t understand working time directive at all. Didn’t go in at 5am and took a ten hour rest period as I should. 

Other issues arose from how things were not organised. Come in for the wee early hours, no paperwork prepared, no scanners charged and ready to go, parcels not correctly sorted into their routes. So had to clean up the depot floor, collect the scanners from the sorting tables to put on charge and correctly sort parcels then sort them into their drops for the day only to get moaned at for taking too long. 

There were some good points though. There were some staff and a couple of supervisors that would move the earth to help when needed, regardless of what they had going on. Once out on the road, left to my own devices and was always able to call something in for assistance or advice on a drop. Loved being on the road but definitely not so happy with the issues on planning and with some staff and problems at the depot. 

I worked as a self employed contractor for Menzies for 4 years delivering parcels on behalf of their client who is an online retailer.  I was paid a good set daily rate. As I was self employed I was in control of my costs. I hired a van from a company that didn't charge any excesses for high mileage or charge an arm and a leg for deposit. This meant I was free to deliver all over for the company and in turn boosted my profits for my business.  As Menzies don't provide a van for doing the deliveries you are free to buy one and cut your costs which boosts your profits even more and in turn bumps up your hourly rate. Anyone earning less than £11 per hour has clearly gone to the wrong hire company and signed an agreement that cost them too much. That is not Menzies fault as it is up to the self employed contractor to source a van.  I was so successful at this job that I was able to get a mortgage for a house and then progress my career into management. This particular branch of Menzies has some long service contractors because the pay is good, the work is good and the management ensures fairness for all.  It is not a job for someone who doesn't want to work hard or work 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.  There are also increases in the Daily Rate at Peak times which really boosts earnings and also a bonus scheme which I  made over £3000 extra on when I was a driver.  I do miss being out on road but being a supervisor now is great for me as I can pass my knowledge onto the new drivers and give them a great experience of the job.  

Got hired straight away as it is warehouse based. No respect throughout the whole workplace. Depot was based in Wakefield, if I ever had an issue, supervisors would dismiss it and managers treated everyone poorly.  Probably the only thing good about it was had opportunities to do VNA training keeping yourself away from the supervisor's attitude towards all staff. Highly recommend all supervisors and Managers to be reviewed as overall not a bad job, just the people who work there. Had one supervisor (a bully as it will) used to verbally abuse colleagues and get away with it even after complaints to managers. 

As I was literate with computers and writing, I was put on administration for one of the machines to be then be told my job is not important (this was one of the main roles when stock came into the warehouse, VERY IMPORTANT). Overall, Menzies was an average company to work for, not many work benefits over the two years I worked there, they gradually took work benefits away 'to save money'. As a job itself, it was easy but very labour based for minimum wage. The work culture between workers was very good as we treated each other as family, mainly managers and supervisors made work life a misery. I have been to various other depots at Menzies and I can honestly say Wakefield needs a review in their work culture and the way staff are treated as other depots are great in comparison.

I have never been in a job with such a lack of communication or care from the management and supervisor for new staff. I was mostly just sweeping the floor on my first shift (fun...) as they were clueless in what to assign me to do and almost felt like they didn't want to know me.
On my second day the supervisor told me to re-stock the racks with magazines and gave me NO instructions in where to get the magazines or where to put them before she quickly ran off, nobody was assigned to teach me and had to ask this foreign guy i was working beside with how to  do it and i improvised as the shift went on. First couple of hours and i was already wanting to go home so badly and i was used to repetitive jobs.

I assumed i was doing the same 9 hour shift the day before then was given the news that it was a 10 hour shift i was doing with only a 30 min break.... Again, nobody told me this. I refused to stay on for that long and told the supervisor i was leaving on the same time as i did before. Why they wanted it to be 10 hours i don't know as all the work appears to be done after 8 hours with a load of the workers just hanging around.

All the people i spoke to seem to can't wait to leave the place and some were even leaving halfway through their shift as they had enough of it.


My Time at Menzies Distribution
I worked at Menzies Distribution for couple of years as a Supervisor While there were aspects of the job that I enjoyed, there were also significant challenges.
Positives:

I started here and lasted one day, absolutely awful company who do not have a clue!
I was prepared to be out on a night trunk for 10/11hrs not 15hrs.
Plus you are required to fuel the unit on the way back to the yard, when you get back you have to wait to get it tipped, after you have opened the trailer curtains, taken all the straps off, then once tipped shut the curtains, then take to trailer back out in to the yard, drop the trailer then Adblue the unit, all this at the end of a 15 hour shift.
That morning I did this I had an appointment at 830am, I started at 5pm the night before.
So I said to the manager, I won’t be back, his response was “it’s not for everyone”.
There is an issue here a very big one, the job is terrible, the worst HGV drivers job there is!
They are always advertising for new drivers, they really need to have a good hard look at themselves and ask the question why no one stays!
My experience was at the East Kilbride depot.
If you value your work life balance and just general respect from the company at which you work, don’t even think about this place. as you will regret it!

The whole experience there was a complete joke rules only apply to cover there own backs definitely worst logistic company I have ever worked for from my years experience driving. Childish and inexperienced management with unprofessional behaviour from the top to the bottom. Group chats set up by management are used for offensive jokes, whilst supervisors and managers actively participate in the most disgusting conversations I have ever experienced. But this is acceptable as they label it “banter” so nobody is allowed to be offended.
Managements favouritism over certain drivers is part of practice. In a short space from start of contract they lost drivers and managers they don’t practice what they preach and are full of empty promises I was offered a job else where so they terminated my contract on the spot even though I offered to work my notice I found that very childish and unprofessional practice glad to see the back of this place in my opinion if you still enjoy driving and not made to feel isolated or uncomfortable avoid this place.

I was recruited to deliver pallets, at time I was taking my class2 test, but asked to start immediately with the 7.5t lorry which I already had a license for. To start with things were great. I had good relations with my immediate supervisors. 
Things seemed to change around winter 2019/20 - a greater focus on cutting accident costs has made the job un-doable, particularly given the roads in Argyll and the nature of the places that we were expected to drive and deliver to, management above depot level have proved to be unsympathetic and unsupportive to the point that most HGV drivers have left, depot managers have also gone back to driving vans as they feel they what is being asked is impossible, high staff turnover generally and poor pay. 
I have to say that although I thought this was a great job at first, it has been spoilt by poor and bullying management (-you may be asked to pay for repairs!) therefore would be wary of recommending it to anyone, especially with an HGV licence, there are better employers out there.
