Line managers often had favourites & petty infighting.  If you were a suck up or seen as 'fun' could get away with murder, barely working, not following processes etc but if you were compotent or wanted to actually do a good job, you often had an uphill battle.  

My experience was senior managers were more aware of the staff then staff think, just cos you're not talking to them often, doesn't mean they're not aware of dynamics in your team/that you do show up and do your job.

Peple who absolutely should not be doing QA's, supporting or in management roles often were/are.

NSL quite clearly had limited interest in engaging with staff prior to the contract TUPE, instead chosing to steam roll over with the NSL existing practices and processes, this lead to a number of issues at the new site. NSL being unaware of a process, so it could not be functioned on their systems and a workaround had to be created. Awful communication & transparency.  NSL also came in flattening existing work, instead of staff taking initiative to improve processes or act in the best interest of customers, felt very 'follow the process just click the standard paragraph' - I imagine this led to a loss of dedicated staff, staff with expertise or who'd be willing to contribute to improving things.

The new site had staff packed in very close, posing something of a firehazard.

There were/are a couple of compotent managers and personally never had any issues with senior management, but all the petty infighting with managers, managers who had no idea on the processes themselves, QA staff who are abrasive or who have poor soft skills... Eurgh.

I also at times felt uncomfortable with some individuals having some pretty unPC comments, during my time on the contract I heard a number of statements that would have you likely fired or definitely disciplined in any other organisation...3 of them from managers.





By far, the worst job I've ever had. During the interview, I was sold a fairytale about the job and the benefits, including a development academy. The reality is, there isn't even any training - unless of course, you count the day or two spent shadowing a team member, who has been there less than a year. You'll also receive your induction, 4 weeks into the job.

The thing I noticed straight away, was the clique culture. If your face doesn't fit, you won't progress in there and barring the odd person, you will be completely ignored by your colleagues.

There will be issues with the systems and frustrated customers will take their frustrations out on you, which isn't any different to any other customer service job. The thing which sets NSL apart, is the ineffectiveness of the team leaders. You will report the issues to them, on numerous occasions. And each time, if your face doesn't fit, they will ignore you. When one of the in-crowd reports the issue, the team leaders will firstly deny all previous knowledge of it and secondly, delegate the task of resolving it to said member of the in-crowd. This then frees up the team leaders' time, for gossiping with their favourites and making personal calls and errands. 

The job itself is terrible - Environmental Enforcement being the worst. Helping the local government part vulnerable people and tourists with their money and then going home for tea, is not my idea of a fulfilling career. 

To summarise: if you're a self - respecting person, looking to work in a fulfilling role, with professional colleagues and a team leader you can respect and look up to; this is not the place for you. If you're a self-serving sycopant, then you too can be a legend in your own lunchtime, at NSL.

On a typical day at work I patrol an area of Lewes which would be delegated to each staff member during briefing every morning by a senior, they try and make it fair so that your not on the same beat twice close together, however at times this is not possible due to other C.E.O's on rest day, holiday or off sick.
On patrolling our beats we enforce the road traffic management act 2004 and issue parking fines were contraventions have been breached.
What I have learned doing this job is that not every day is the same and members of the public can be pretty hostile towards you.
the management are supportive of their staff and if a C.E.O has had a problem in a certain area they would not be put on that beat for awhile or at least until the C.E.O feels happy to go back to that area.
The hardest part of the job is to calm a situation down when the driver comes back to vehicle and I have just issued a penalty charge notice because everyone reacts differently and trying to judge what their reaction would be can be difficult. It can range from completely ignoring you, to swearing and shouting abuse at you from receiving a penalty charge notice and sometimes it could even be a parent who got held up because their children had been playing up and lost track of time and trying to calm them down can be difficult as they could be stressed out.
Going into work and seeing my colleagues can be quite enjoyable especially if its the one you get on with pretty well, but meeting new people can be enjoyable as well be it on street or a new member of staff.

A typical day at work would consist of coming in and getting your basket in   which you can find your equipment and beat you have to cover for the day. You then get out and cover your must visits then keep on patrolling until break time when you return to base for lunch and then go out again. 
The job can be stressful at times but overall it is not that bad. What makes it stressful most of the times is management: there's barely any communication between management, supervisors and staff. Management can be very petty and childish, God forbid you suggest anything that could be done to make the place better and safer. I once asked why didn't we have body cameras and for about 2/3 weeks I've been given the worst beats and I would have lots of "requests" throughout the day just to make me walk from one side to the furthest one. They keep doing that until they find the next person to move on to. 
Some people idle a lot and don't like to do much and that can bring the team morale down as sometimes you have to work as a team, depending on what shift you're doing.
I would say that the hardest part of the job is when you are expected to issue without any kind of support whatsoever in certain areas that are at very high risk for abuse and violence (Small Heath, Alum Rock, Sparkhill, Sparkbrook etc). It can also be tough when the weather is not the best (cold, rain).
The most enjoyable part of the job would be the fact that you get to walk a lot which I personally enjoy, especially on warm and sunny days. You also get to know the city very well as you'll eventually go everywhere. I met some really nice people as well (beware, some people can and will be sneaky and nasty but that goes with any workplace I suppose).

I worked for NSL as a Civil Enforcement Officer for just over a year. During my time I met some really good people and also some really bad people too. When I started the job the trainer would tell us that it is not 'target based work' therefore there is not a minimum amount of tickets you are required to issue. Oh how wrong was the trainer. The supervisors would put pressure on you to come back with a certain amount of tickets per day, their magic number usually being about 8 tickets per day. If you came back with less than that they would make your life a misery. They would pull you into the office for the smallest things and make such a big deal out of it. GOD FORBID you ever get seen talking to a colleague whilst on patrol. They would regularly threaten you with disciplinary if you were seen even talking to a fellow CEO on street. There were times when colleagues of mine have been attacked whilst on duty by angry member of the public and had to take time off with their injuries or stress and they would return to work with a disciplinary pack waiting for them. It was a disgrace how they treated CEO's who work so hard for them in all weather conditions and all they do is sit in an office thinking of ways to make our lives a misery. There is such a high staff turnover and a lot of people leave because they just cant take the stress that the management and supervisors place upon the CEO's. The actual job is not too bad its just the 'higher powers' that make it a really bad company to work for. DO NOT make the mistake of working for this company.

Worst company out there you could work for. Inconsistency is rife, staff get away with A LOT!! Including management, who are the most immoral souls you will ever come across.

Investigatons are done but nothing is done with them and perpetrators are given a slap on the wrist. Hard working staff are overlooked over and over again, with no recognition or reward in place for staff to appreciate.

No allowances made for staff sickness or absence which results in staff being overworked and stretched to the limit, resulting in high sickness levels that are hardly monitored, and more often than not, done incorrectly. So staff get away with absences all time. Drug and drink culture on the rise within the centre and done whilst at work! No prospects unless your willing to laugh at the managements ridiculous and more often than not disgraceful jokes and bow down to their so called vain superiority. 

Management!! What management!! If your prepared to brown nose, you'll go far! If you don't fit in, your screwed. Management get away with all sorts, literally. No care for staff who as mentioned, are usually overworked and stressed as a result. Don't like you to challenge them over certain issues whereby they cannot give a reasonable answer. All it boils down to is profit, and lots of it!! Immoral, fake and moronic management who can't manage themselves let alone the staff.

Genuinely, the worst place by far to work.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Active job which requires a lot of walking and physical fitness.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The CONSTANT abuse from public. Always a threat of escalation to physical assault. This is very common and NSL offer no support if you are injured. There is no sick pay and required to contact management everyday prior to shift to inform them you are absent- reason why and when you will return. Video badges are provided but these often do not  work and although a requirement for safety you will still be sent out without it recording to ensure NSL can be paid from council.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The worse you can imagine. Colleagues are supportive of each other. Management are extremely poor. They do not have any care for the employees and talk only of the requirements of the contract. You do not matter in the slightest to them. The equipment you are given which is supposedly for safety is used only to gather evidence against you. Everything is measured by the minute because that’s how the contract with authorities works. You never receive any praise for the good work you put in and this soon changes to why should I bother. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Abuse from public and big brother watching every movement from management.

The only pro to this job was that the people I worked with were great, we were all in the same awful boat and so did what we could to enjoy it. Well all but one.

Other than that management were awful taking ages to fulfil uniform requests and holiday. Complaints were often swept under the rug and if you didn't hit your target. Yes, your PCN target,y ou would have the council and management on your back because you have to keep the council happy. No free parking, no perks, meant to get free lunch when there were no errors but we rarely did because it wasn't in the budget. No health and safety protection even if involved in a car accident. Everything was about numbers. Those who performed the best (got the most tickets a day) were given special treatment. 

Even in my exit interview when I brought up issued, the OSM for East Herts just argued all my comments. 

The public were generally ok, you would get the usual abuse but that's to be expected in this role. The role is just about getting the numbers so people would naturally hate you. I made it my goal to be as lenient as possible which meant that my performance was questioned once. But why would I go out of my way to annoy the public that mostly wouldn't purposely park in the wrong place. A lot of the time it was just a mistake because of a lack of information.

TL:DR

Not worth the money for the role unless you really need a job. Like last resort job.

-Involvement in various committees, spearheading partnerships and ensuring relationships maintained and agreements adhered to.
-Management of staff including appraisals and solely responsible for advanced academy training and career progression.
-Dealing with recruitment advertisement via open days, writing of job descriptions and employee vacancies, alongside: application sifting, arranging and conducting interviews and selecting suitable candidates.
-Dealing with various HR issues ranging from performance, sickness and absence monitoring to conducting disciplinarys, investigations, grievances, one to ones, reviews and suspensions.  
-Daily staff briefings and de-briefings, chairing monthly staff meetings and ensuring relevant actions taken.        
-Responding to incidents and complaints both written and in person.
-Creating and maintaining spreadsheets on excel; data and supporting documents would then be analysed  to 
create action plans and prepare for meetings and briefings.
-Creating various documents in word, data inputting and maintaining of the in house databases.
-Assisting the contract manager and colleagues in taking minutes and notes in various capacities both within our 
contract and others in the North West region.

The job is simple as anything and you are your own boss for the most part so you have freedom that most other jobs won't give u , it sounds silly but you get to become a part of your community like no other job will offer and that's for better or for worse .

The guys you work with can be a right laugh and they will have your back but management can be iffy contract dependant if you get a good management team your laughing and ir makes your job insanely easy to call it work would be almost too much , however a bad management team will leave you wanting to claw out your own eyeballs so your milage may vary id tell anyone to give it a go youll learn lots about yourself and how you deal with aggression and staying calm under pressure so if your even slightly intrested in working outside it's well worth the application although the only "advancement" will be into mainly office based roles the more you go up the chain the seniors go out occasionally and then the supervisors go less and then the contract managers are fully office based so keep that in mind if you want to go up the ladder other than that it's a pretty decent job if you can put the stigma behiend you of being a "traffic warden"
