The day would start with a phone call from the office to ask me of my availability, of which I was always available. Then after a short while another phone call would come to ask me whether I would be willing to go to a certain address to pick up a certain parcel or parcels and deliver them to an address or addresses, depending on the number of parcels. I would then drive to the given address or addresses and pick up the parcel or parcels and call the office immediately upon collection of the said parcels, drive to the delivery addresses and deliver and call the office again to confirm delivery and await further instructions. Usually on my way back from delivery I would get another phone call from the office to confirm whether I would be willing to be put on standby of which I was always willing to be. The hardest part of the job was when I got to the delivery address and the swipe card that I used to gain entry into the building would not open the door, then when I called central security to remotely open the door for me they would respond by saying that I was not cleared to enter that site and I had to either wait for another driver with clearance or I would have to return the undelivered parcel to the collection address and the get paid half the original cost. The management sometimes allocated the lucrative jobs to their friends and showed favouratism in this regard. The co workers were  all very friendly and helpful. The most enjoyable part of the job was when I was asked to collect three or more parcels and deliver them long distance, say to Scotland and when I got there all the doors at all the delivery sites opened for me and then I was given a few more parcels to bring back to the depot.

This was an interesting challenge, as most of the work was based on spreadsheets,.
Although the concept of credit control remains the same, the set up was different as the company didn;t have in house accounts package, so everything was maintained on spreadsheets. This was something new to me, although I had used spreadheets in my previous role.
Since it was factored company, their was constant daily liasions with the credit control team at RBS. 
My monthly ledger was aound £450K,. I would start my morning by checking my emails and phone messages, and after resolving any queries. I would then proceed with calling out customers(30 to 50 calls per day), and logging the conversations on the spreadsheet, I ensured that all calls are made after checking the payment terms, and the customer was adhering to it, any promises were noted, so the follow up could be maintained.
I would get queries in between my calls and would resolve them immediately and move on. I would daily liase with some of the 50 different sites around the country, resolving invoice queries, and requested prompt response from site managers so the query could be cleared asap.

I also got involved in taking credit card payments, liasing within the team in office to arrange credit notes, sent out remittances/chqs to RBS onn daily basis, faxing, filing and general house-keeping duties.

My colleagues were very helpful, and management supportive and encouraging.
I found the challenge of achieving my target was most enjoyable, and my performance in my first month of getting 95%+ was satisfying and rewarding, as it made my management very happy.



You lose more money than make. They base the cost of each job just on distance. I was asked as a self employed courier to run from Warrington Depot to London W2 for £110. with no guarantee of a return load back up north. The job are costed out so they make money from you and not the other way round. In the past six months working for them, I've not taken home any kind of descent wage and its put a lot of ware and tare on my vehicle. They don't tell you who your going to get paid for each job unless you ask and if you ask and refuse the job, staff get upset and start by using argumentative methods for you to take to job on.Most of their jobs are for the telecommunication industry, so they are generally small items, which they have a stock of in most depots. More suited to a motor cycle courier then a small van. The " By - Box " system they use for delivering parcels to engineers doesn't always work. You can get a job to deliver into one of these By boxes but theirs not guarantee that when you get to the box, that theirs is a vacant box for your parcel to go into, plus getting your parcel into the electronic system with the documents can be really difficult. One thing I was surprised at, is the rudeness and completely unprofessional manor which they talk to self employed drivers in most of the depots i've come across around the UK.

Management is an absolute joke. VERY HYPOCRITICAL! HR is not there for the workers only managers. Only chance of success is being “friends” with the managers. The managers need to go through basic training and don’t know how to do the jobs in the warehouse. Definitely unprofessional. Would put cameras in the first aid room due to certain a managers activity in there . No basic respect. Supervisors are highly unprofessional. Only good things is some people are friendly mostly two faced though. Only would recommend if you need decent pay. Never have overtime availability and you will get asked to do everyone else’s work because they can’t be bothered to do it. Most enjoyable part of the job is lunch. Worst part is management.

Fired the only person that knew the job and the contract was messed up for months after because no one knew how to process the parts.

Supervisors vape in the warehouse and get away with it but if you do it as an employee you get fired.
So many Double standards!

I worked at Rico Logistics for one month last year within the finance team at head office in Langley. On my first day there was no induction and as time went on I had to make my own introductions to people most of the time.

The management view on work is generally one of hard work and long hours. I ensured I departed at 17:30 most of the time but towards the end of my stay there I could see the workload piling up meaning later finishes. 

The culture there is one of work, work and yes more work. No xmas parties or anything like that. I had people saying to me openly 'what made you want to come here'. The only good thing was that if it was someone's birthday they would get a cake in and sing happy birthday at their desk which was a nice touch.

The car parking is very limited. If you don't come by 8.30 you will most likely have to block someone in to park up. However Langley station is across the road if that helps anyone.

I left after a month as I could see where this role was going and the direction the management were going down. The colleagues I worked with closely spoke negatively about the place and  morale was very low.

I have done around 50 kind of IT related jobs for different contracts during the 2 years I've spent with Rico.
A typical day when we collect the parts for the calls at the depot then travel to the area of work what could be anywhere in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Mostly we have 10+ calls a day and most of the time we need to hold a tight time schedule as the customers are no available all time during the day. The calls including laptop and desktop deployments for banking industry, break fix for retailers such as till and self scan tills. Also we are doing fault finding and break fixing without a replacement part (manpower). If any issue occurs during the call, we have our own and the customers help desk to help to complete the call, or escalate if necessary.
The most enjoyable part is to meet new people all across, and also learn new technologies. 
The hardest part is when the calls schedule is wrong and we have to re arrange everything before start of the day. Also hard is that we are working as self employed and we are facing with a huge expenses as we are using our own vehicle without any mileage or fuel payment.

I worked at Rico Croydon for over a year now and i can say 100% you can make some really good money working for Rico if you’re willing to put the shift in. when i first started I wasn’t making much money but the guys at the Branch pulled me in and took me through a few things regarding my working hours and using the network and really put the effort in to help me. since then i can honestly say if you are willing to put the efforts in you can make some good money. 

considering I am a self-employed driver i find the Team at Croydon and the manager personally very good to work with as they are willing to put the efforts in to help you make the most out of your work. 

the culture of the place is easy as long as you put the work in you can make good money and with the 40 odd depots in the network it can happen.

best part of the job is how easy it is once you know what you are doing. The hardest part is sometimes there is an element of luck in return work and sometimes you aren’t as lucky finding it but the guys at branch will help you in any way they can.

I work for 3 courier companies and Rico is one of them.  Like all companies you get good days and bad. Rates can vary depending on the client and the office for which you take the work.  I note that when I work for London sites I got paid 0.70 pence per mile but considerably lower rates from non-London sites. I learned that you need to build relationships with the sites and make yourself available. The way to make good money is to call into locations and introduce yourself to the teams, let them know where you want a job going back to and 50% of the time you will get something.  The App was okay.  Getting offered jobs at late hours was a bit annoying as I do not like working out of hours. In summary quite a good outfit to earn money from along with the other companies I work for.  The industry has changed and you need to work with a few companies to earn decent money and learn which sites are busy. My best day was £427 and my worst £102.

Started the company working around 12-14 hours a day earning around £500 a week....after I paid my van £175  a week and diesel £150 a week I was earning   £175 a week doing minimum of 60 hours. Not even £3 per hour. You also have to have around £400 to use for diesel for first 2 weeks as you don't get paid for 1st 2 weeks. When the school holidays are there your lucky to earn £100 a week. Also if you get jobs out of London area it's advised you call the other offices you are going to be clearing near . I did that alot but most numbers are 0844 or 0845 and it cost be average of £10 a month extra on my phone bill just to ask for work out of the area. It's paid 45p per mile maybe bit more on the odd job. You will go to Leeds for £125 after £30 diesel and van £25 per day it's disgraceful pay. Make own decisions but I wouldn't ever do a job like this again.
