A typical day at work:
Every day is different, which is one of the things I enjoy most about this role. As a Peripatetic Home Manager, I move between services, offering leadership support, reviewing quality and compliance, and helping teams stay focused on delivering excellent care. Residents are always at the heart of everything the organisation does, and that focus guides every decision I make throughout the day.

What I learned:
This role has strengthened my adaptability, leadership, and problem‑solving skills. I’ve learned how to quickly assess a home’s needs, support teams with confidence, and apply robust policies and procedures that are in place to guide and protect both staff and residents. Working across different environments has also taught me the value of strong peer support—something this organisation excels at.

Management:
Management is supportive at all levels. There is a consistent sense of guidance, trust, and collaboration across the organisation. Clear communication and accessible senior leadership make it easy to step into homes and feel backed in the decisions I make. The management culture encourages growth, accountability, and high standards.

Workplace culture:
The organisation has a genuinely positive and resident‑focused culture. Teams are compassionate, and there is a shared commitment to providing the best possible care. There is also an excellent sense of peer support between managers and colleagues, which creates a strong, connected working environment even when you cover multiple services.

The hardest part of the job:
The biggest challenge can be entering homes that are facing staffing or operational pressures and needing to quickly stabilise the service. The fast pace and constant adjustment to new environments require flexibility and resilience. However, these challenges also create opportunities to make meaningful improvements.

The most enjoyable part of the job:
The most rewarding part is knowing I make a real difference. I genuinely look forward to going to work each day because I feel proud of the impact I have on residents’ wellbeing and on the teams I support. Seeing positive changes, improving standards, and helping staff feel confident is incredibly fulfilling. This is a company I am proud to say I work for.

Sanctuary is a very large machine that is out to make money and its employees are well-paid cogs to keep it going. That's the deal. There are embedded processes that are not always efficient and though some teams are working to change this, it won’t change overnight.  Once you have your head around its corporate and “traditional” nature and don’t assume you can change things hugely or quickly, it can be a good place.  

Your experience here will be very largely down to your manager: I have had all ends of the spectrum in terms of management styles and support but am currently very fortunate to have one who provides solid support and guidance whilst not dictating every minute of my day.  I am given an end goal – usually to implement a new product or process -  and it is up to me to figure the best path to get there, but I can check back in when I need some advice.  I know who I can go to if there are serious issues.

There are a number of internal training courses on many subjects from assertiveness to management to role-specific courses such as anti-money laundering or asbestos awareness; again, my current manager is very supportive of me attending as many of these as are appropriate to my role, but this is not the case in all teams and departments.

There is a flexible working policy and my manager cannot do enough in terms of helping my balance family and work.  There is NO GUARANTEE that your manager will do the same – I have had some in this company who will not do this and go out of their way to make it obvious that work should be the only thing in your life.

Workplace culture is very traditional and non-personal: office attire every day, strict office policies and politics, and there is not much in the way of Group socialising -  though this is starting to improve after the recent exec changes.

My current role is great as I can ensure that we correctly install products and processes that are going to make a real-world difference to our staff and residents.  It can be frustrating at times with so many corporate hoops to jump through and hitting brick walls with other internal teams. It's a pain that you have to pay for car parking, and this is not subsidised at all.

Working at the care home has been a profoundly enriching experience that has shaped my professional and personal growth. Here’s a snapshot of my journey:

A Typical Day at Work:
Each day begins with a warm greeting from both residents and staff, setting a positive tone. Mornings are often busy with assisting residents in their daily routines, from personal care to breakfast. The afternoons typically involve engaging activities like arts and crafts or group games, fostering a sense of community. The day wraps up with evening care and ensuring residents are comfortable and settled for the night.

What I Learned:
I've gained invaluable skills in empathy, communication, and patience. Each interaction teaches me something new about the uniqueness of each resident’s needs. I’ve also learned the importance of teamwork and how collaboration can enhance the quality of care provided.

Management:
The management team is supportive and approachable, always prioritizing staff well-being alongside resident care. They encourage open communication and are receptive to feedback, creating a transparent atmosphere where everyone feels valued. Regular training sessions help us stay updated and improve our skills.

Workplace Culture:
The culture here is built on compassion and respect. The staff is diverse, bringing different perspectives and backgrounds, which enriches our work environment. We celebrate each other’s successes and support one another during challenges, making it a truly collaborative space.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
The most rewarding part is the deep connections formed with residents. Hearing their stories, sharing laughter, and witnessing small moments of joy make every challenge worthwhile. Knowing that I contribute to their comfort and happiness is incredibly fulfilling.

Overall, working at the care home has been a transformative experience, filled with learning and personal growth, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. i am enjoying so much while working in care home(ASRA care home) in Leicester. 

My role is simultaneously busy and rewarding, centring on creating and delivering high-quality, person-centred activities that support the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of the residents. My primary focus is always on promoting independence, encouraging engagement, and fostering a genuine sense of belonging within the home. During my time with Sanctuary, I have learned how to work effectively within a large, well-established care framework. This includes developing a stronger understanding of internal systems, reporting procedures, and the importance of consistent documentation. I’ve also gained insight into how activity provision integrates with clinical, housekeeping, and management teams to support a holistic approach to resident wellbeing. The management team maintains a supportive open-door policy, making them approachable and helpful, which has significantly supported my professional development. The workplace culture is positive, characterised by a strong sense of teamwork, especially during large events and seasonal occasions, with colleagues willing to assist where needed. The most challenging aspect is balancing the diverse needs of residents, particularly when supporting individuals with varying levels of ability, mood, or engagement, which requires excellent organisational skills and patience. Despite this, the most enjoyable and fulfilling part of the job is witnessing residents connect, smile, and actively participate in activities—whether through music, conversation, or group events—that genuinely spark joy or a memory.

I have concern with the way this home is run I feel you the owners Sanctuary already know so I am not willing to name names this is not my style.
I also believe QCQ are somewhat blind to what they see.
Firstly the heath and safety is the worst I have ever seen with laundry bins blocking fire exits wheelchairs, commode seats, frames, mobile hoist residence tables ect all left in hallways blocking a clear way out of the building at the same time blocking emergency services entering the building if needed.
This home is very run down the carpets are disgusting residences mattresses are so badly worn out they are torn and split so not waterproof.
Toilet seats are broken in nearly every room.
The toilet are being used for storage I have witnessed residences bed tables pushed in to the toilet later to be pulled out to serve food on very high chance of cross contamination. I have seen commode seats be spilled over the carpets and a towel use to mop it up disgusting.
It very common to find faeces on the carpets because the carers haven’t taken that extra care to help prevent this happening, The building is very dirty please pay closer attention to shower drains, air vents backs of toilets carpets, mattresses stairs, windowsills ect. 
The plastic cups that are used are disgusting stained behind believe such a easy fix but nobody bothered. 
I have witnessed patience/residence laying in there own faeces for long period of time also there own urine for way to long this homes been forgotten and will suck the life out of anybody that works in it. 
You guys know all this it needs shutting down for a year and a million pound spent to bring it up to anything worth living in also please STOP employing family members two sisters and a mother think they are untouchable and think they run the show very rude and unwelcoming unprofessional unpleasant people.

Working as a nurse in Garside House Nursing Home has been an incredibly rewarding experience. 

1. A typical day involves supporting residents with their daily needs such as  administering medication, monitoring health conditions and working closely with colleagues to ensure delivery of standard care.
2. Each day is different, which keeps the role engaging and challenging.
I have learned a tremendous amount, not only about clinical skills and patient care but also about empathy, patience and communication. Being able to respond to diverse needs and situations has significantly strengthened my professional abilities.
3. The management team is supportive, approachable, and responsive, creating an environment where staff feel valued and heard. 
3. The workplace culture encourages collaboration, learning, and mutual respect, which makes it a pleasure to come to work every day.
4. The hardest part of the job is witnessing residents in distress or coping with declining health, which can be emotionally challenging. However, the support from colleagues and management makes these moments easier to navigate.
5. The most enjoyable part of the job is building meaningful relationships with residents and seeing the positive impact of your care on their lives. Celebrating small achievements and sharing moments of joy with residents and the team makes the role deeply fulfilling.




My time with sanctuary care was a very stressful time. The lack of communication, the new managers that came in are unfit to run a place as fast paced and busy as a nursing home. They have no managerial skills towards staff or residents and do not have any knowledge or experience in dealing with any difficult situations or issues that may rise. 
The management have almost zero respect for their staff, expecting so much from them to the point they are stretch to their capacity, but staff do not even get a smile or good morning in return, let alone a thank you for all our hard work.
The management definitely have their favourites and weeks if your face fits or if you’re constantly in their office telling them all the gossip and going’s in of the rest of the staff in the floor then you’ll get in just fine with management. 
They are rude to their staff and definitely do not commend them enough for all their constant hard work and dedication to their job. 
I am so lucky to have worked with the amazing team I did while employed by sanctuary care, as if it wasn’t for the team, I’d have received no support, no appreciation and certainly no thanks for the work put in. I have worked under many company managers in nursing homes and this was by far the worst! 
They really have no idea what they are doing, and they are driving good staff away while pulling the nursing home down with them with their lack of knowledge and  complete ignorance towards anything needing improved. They would rather blame the care and nursing staff for the bad reputation than look at the problems higher up in the company. 

Sanctuary was necessary  for the security of the care homes in Cornwall. It has been a saving grace and has been challenging but most importantly rewarding! Sanctuary care adopts an enriching lives ethos which shines through from the most senior of management to the staff giving direct interactions. Sanctuary have the highest expectations for the benefit of the residents and it’s so lovely working in an environment that genuinely cares for its residents. Sanctuary is one of the rare companies who genuinely look after their staff too, from webinars on menopause and cooking classes for those in a budget, to money saving vouchers, staff recognition and investment in training and career development, sanctuary feels like a million miles away from any other company that I have worked for in my many years of health & social care. 
They are not for profit so all monies want goes straight back into the pockets of the individual homes and residents, and for those who genuinely want to work in health & social care to make a difference, you can’t ask for anything more than that. 
I am so proud to work for Sanctuary care and lead a team of staff who share the same values as sanctuary.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The wages are on time,but that is pretty much the only good thing in working for this company. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Long hours,low wages compared to the amount of stress and responsibility one's got.
Overwhelming and exhausting workload, not enough support from the management. 
Unsafe place to work, not being protected from aggressive and abusive residents.
Trainings are being provided regularly, but then expected to the the opposite things which are dangerous for the employees health, just because the company is trying to save money and they are not hiring enough staff. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Dirty and smelly carpets and furniture, some units reek of urine, toilets are not working properly. Very poor hygiene standards overall. 
Sometimes being mocked by the superiors when complaining about things,that are serious, like for example, being physically assaulted by a resident.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Having too many task to complete on time puts too much pressure on an individual, on top of taking care of  too many residents alone(12-14) doing personal care,preparing there foods and drinks,having to suffer verbal and physical abuse.Having to deal with too many things alone.But the most challenging part of the job is having to watch people suffering and dying .
