Wed2b could be a great place to work, but the key word there is *could*. The staff on the shop floor, your fellow bridal consultants, make the job feel worth it because they're so fun and lovely. Learning about the Bridal industry is fascinating, and the tips and tricks you can give brides on their dresses can make such a difference. Theoretically the 'off the peg" affordable model is great- it's much more achievable financially for the majority, and coming into a wed2b shop is a lot less intimidating than a million dollar boutique.  You'll meet some really fun women as you fit brides for their dresses, and the nice ones are always so grateful. You really do get to feel like you're making a difference to somebody's experience at a really important time in their life. 

Sadly these positives are overshadowed by the absolute trashfire that is management and organisation in wed2b. Some individual store managers are actually great, but they're largely the ones who are underappreciated by the company because they actually care about their staff.

 Regional management is the worst, they have a complete ivory tower existence setting completely insane targets for sales and conversions without a proper understanding of what actually works in store. They favour hiring managers who are superior and patronising to sales staff, running things like a dictatorship rather than a place of work. They fail to credit employees who are hardworking and take on the less glamorous tasks, only ever focusing on sales. Even as someone who had high sales consistently, everything always felt precarious. 

There is a lot of favouritism up the chain which furthers the gap between management and staff. Petty rivalries and personal vendettas at that level will often negatively affect shop staff who will be left out of communication or chastised for a mistake which isn't their responsibility. 

All of this likely contributes to the fact that WED2B is permanently understaffed. There are never enough bridal consultants so you'll have mad Saturdays where you have to do a fitting with 2 or 3 brides at once,  you never get any weekend day off and frankly you're lucky if you only work double the amount of hours you're contracted for- 7 days in a row is not a rare occurance and shifts are LONG, they average 8 hours. 

The way management and regional treat is heightened by a policy that discourages managers from being friendly with staff.  Certain managers seem to take this to the most extreme end of the spectrum, looking down their noses at the people doing the majority of the hard work in the company. 

 This also means that store staff know they can't rely on management for any level of support, so they often become very tight knit. It's your coworkers who you'll contact if you're sick or struggling or being threatened by a bride's relative (yes this happens) not management. This another reason why wed2b gets so understaffed- usually people quit in groups because without your whole team it becomes impossible to stand up to management or motivate yourself in work. 

Every staff member you speak to is likely to say that they enjoy working in the bridal sector and they (mostly) enjoy fitting brides. They'll also tell you there's no way they could do the job without their coworkers because the company itself is a mess. It's sad but true. I couldn't recommend the company to anyone on this basis. 

In the middle of a pandemic we were told we would be topped up 20% to get a full wage “Great” we all thought, especially having worked so hard since last year trying to put money into the business. Staff are on minimum wage, assistant managers wage is well below par! No one asked for the top up and I’m sure if you ask all staff most would’ve preferred a bonus (which certain staff aren’t getting but some are) over 20% extra money for those 3 months. We return and again do all we can to help the business, even though we have very little stock to sell and we have barely anything that compliments each other. Staff are referred to as passengers, drivers and back seaters which in think its horrible. They’ll pull up a low performer but not take into account they have little to sell alongside certain dresses. Only a few weeks ago the owner stated they were pumping money into the business for stock and new stores opening. So they’ll dilute the business down instead of focusing on where the money’s coming in. Then after talking about spending more money on this business, he denies the staff a bonus! A bonus for those who are the ones putting the money in the till. The staff turnaround is huge. Managers are constantly on their staffs back to perform yet they spend most of their time in an office finding reasons to stay there so they can do very little. Targets are ridiculous, you have to sell more dresses than you have people coming in. You have to get an exceptional review as well as forcing stock that looks awful with a dress onto a customer because it’s all you have and the ethos is sell what you’ve got not what a bride wants or might like, but what we have to sell which could be a 10 year old dress that looks awful. There’s no love for the brides, no thought for the staff in the shops (unless it’s MK) and those who treat there staff awfully are rewarded. The KPI’s aren’t an issue if we have stock! The ladies are working for minimum wage with no commission and now no bonus is not justified by a top up for 12 weeks. Most companies did this but will still pay the staff what they’re due to reward their hard work! Most boutiques pay the minimum wage along with a commission but the commission the hard working girls would earn is kept in this business!

When I started this job I completely understood that as a zero hour my hours weren’t guaranteed. I’ve always worked well, regularly achieving my KPIs and was hoping that as a zero hour who was working better than some who were contracted, I’d be offered some set hours too. This wasn’t the case. I understand with this pandemic it’s hard on businesses but to openly congratulate some people and promote them into jobs that could’ve taken a back seat till this had passed, and to then drop the hours of a zero to almost nothing, it’s a kick in the teeth. Especially when we’re the ones put at risk daily seeing these brides. I can’t fault my team and my store manager as I know this was out of her hands, but it’s the people above. We apparently have a regional manager, haven’t see her in almost a year, when you do well there’s no praise, no well done, no bonus, nothing, then to hear that after saying I can’t afford to stay with the hours I’m on her response to my manager was “well it’ll do you a favour if she does go to save hours” we mean nothing to these people, were not valued outside of our stores and if anything we seem to be a burden to the business. Morale is so low and I know so many people are looking for other jobs because they can’t stand working here. It seems the higher the chain and the more you earn the less you have to do. And those are the people who are rewarded. There’s no care for the staff or the brides. I get a business need to make money to run but there should be an element of looking after all staff members as well as those in the higher roles and making sure your customer is happy not forced into spending more money than she probably wanted too. They’ve added a new target of selling so many dresses per hour, the problem is we have no customers so to me this seems like another thing to show us the door. I’m leaving now as I can’t run a household on £59 a week, not that they care because I’m just a zero hour who has a manager, 2 senior managers, a regional manager and a head of retail above me before I get to the MD. Clearly all these people are needed to run an area of 10 stores so the little people can be left with nothing to live on.

I worked for Wed2B for 2 years the only reward you gain would be to put a massive smile on a brides face and if your lucky a great bunch of ladies to work with that you form genuine friendships with.Training was ok and the business model is decent for the customers however, there is a high amount of unnecessary pressure for the sales advisors every thing that you say and do must be “Wed2B” they send out mystery shoppers to ‘check up’ on a regular basis you feel like you are not being trusted when you are trying to do your job and are expected to work like a robot.

During my second year working for wed2b i felt very stressed and unhappy working there due to various company changes,store issues and staff morale being terribly low ,the constant fear projected by management (who are seriously trigger happy) and what would happen if sales were low,top sellers would be praised but still always criticised for not selling extras and less successful sellers would be named and shamed, made to feel guilty and demotivated in-front of the rest of the team, i have been on the receiving end of being a top and bottom seller despite the extra help i gave back to the business such as running the store when the manager was off or when the store had no supervisors (yes they all resigned), doing excessive amounts of repairs all of my hard work was never enough they only care if you are making a lot of money. I went from wanting to progress to dreading coming into work. 

The business expectations and the way management ran the store are responsible for the extreme staff turnover due to such negative intimidating repercussions (advisory’s, formal conversations, disciplinary and threats of termination of contract) the staff are treated as if they are disposable and replaceable you are expected to work Every weekend you are dressing nonstop to the point of nearly passing out each weekend! If you are full time you are expected to individually make up to an unrealistic five figure amount for the business during busy months on an £8.20 per hour wage which is actually laughable the company is take take take!

When I started at WED2B 4 years ago they had a lot of opportunities to grow, the teams were nice, the pay for a consultant was great and the main aspect was looking after brides and providing excellent customer service. This ideology quickly went down the drain the higher up I progressed.
As an assistant store manager you are expected to know & do everything a store manager does but you get paid thousands less a year - same level as pressure & stress with nothing to motivate you.
You get told, as management, you can't be close or friends with consultants so it doesn't come across as favouritism - never worked at a company who didn't want to have friends in your own team...
My store were lovely and we had an amazing team however as soon as the management team reach out higher to ask for help due to stress & worrying or getting no communication back from head office when you're trying to sort things out for your brides, you just get told that everyone is in the same boat - no, working in one of the busiest stores in the company, you get less help than stores with half the footfall and half the size which makes no sense at all!!
There is hardly any support in terms of mental health and they really do not care if you are struggling with stress or further mental worries - other than an A5 leaflet to look on the benefits website.
As a manager you are expected to motivate a team day in & day out and we get nothing in terms of motivation ourselves - no incentives, bonuses taken away, team being made redundant, poor salary, unreasonable targets & no support which was so important over this past year.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with WED2B at the start, I've learnt a lot and appreciate the roles I have been in but the company need to re-evaluate how they treat their employees - they care way to much about the money and not enough about the people.

As supervisor the pay isn't great given you have the same responsibilities and expectations as a store manager, there is alot of pressure and the training I received was lacking - mostly shadowing and it was luck of the draw what you got to observe. The store opened without a store manager and there was no second Supervisor. I kept things ticking along but did not receive tangible support. The store opening was chaos and very unstructured and messy, no store handover and most things I learnt as I went. If there are any issues or complaints, you are guilty until proven innocent and it will always be the colleagues and stores fault, never the bride. You are expected to snitch and report any misgivings of both advisors and managers. Regional management are very negative and shrug off any successes (100% mystery shop result for example) You will be expected to manage out anyone not giving 110% and getting results early, chances are not given to advisors and high up individuals in the company care little for them 'best of a bad bunch' was a notable remark.
From an advisor point of view, expect to achieve target early on. Alot of the pressure and negativity will be dependent on your management team, it depends if you are valued by your Supervisor and Manager and how they filter out senior management. I would recommend not applying to a store opening, it's more pressure and stressful. Expect to work every weekend. If you are having a bad week or luck, expect to be spoken to formally and if regional or your manager don't like you, expect to be managed out. Training, Task force and visiting managers are HR excersises that 'tick' the 'You have been given the support you need' box. There is a very high turnover of staff,only half of the staff remain at the store after a few months. Footfall is sporadic and can be very busy or at times absolutely dead, dead periods were terrible, going hours without anyone in.

Firstly, you don’t earn commission or bonus. Wage is slightly above nmw but not worth the work that’s expected. 
It’s very much a culture of do what I say not what I do. If you want a weekend day off you can’t, however the store manager can and anyone in head office etc will work on a “on call” basis! 
It’s said the focus is on service and making that the priority, yet they will target us to sell as many items as possible. So they want us to hard sell too even though they claim that’s not the case. They will pit people against each other using incentives and then say it’s not all about UPT? It’s very frustrating and contradictory, there’s hardly any stock to sell that compliments each other and the merch dept don’t send stock where it’s needed as you will have one store sitting on a lot of stock that don’t sell the said stock, then have a store who does who sell the stock but won’t see any for weeks on end, you can’t do inter store changes unless they arrange it which they rarely do. This adds to the frustration. 
For me, I was grateful for my assistant manager and senior sales, they were really hard working and helpful. My manager was new to the business and wasn’t fully trained so it was hard to build a rapport as she wasn’t on the shopfloor very much and wasn’t very operational. I also worked all weekend and she wasn’t in on one of those shifts so I feel like I hardly worked with her. 
Overall the brides are lovely for the most part and being part of their choice is great, the issue is the fact you can work all day sometimes without a break and sell 5-6 dresses in a shift and someone else has done a full shift and sold none but has earned exactly the same as you at the end of the shift. This needs addressing. 
It should be a job that staff would love but if anything it’s the opposite. A lot of the day is spent waiting for a bride to come, sometimes you don’t have a customer at all, other days you have more brides than staff.

The job in itself wasn't bad, you would greet brides to be and explain what would happen during their visit. Then you would help them choose gowns and assist them in trying on and possibly purchasing their wedding dress, unfortunately the company and it's culture has a lot of drawbacks.

First and foremost, this company is very sales-focused. You are given unreasonable sales targets and are expected to meet them, despite the fact that the company doesn't operate on appointments so you have no idea whether any brides are even going to walk into the shop. 

You are encouraged to use shady tactics to secure a sale, the company will insist that they don't like to 'hard-sell' but my manager would give me tips and phrases that would create an 'sense of urgency' (for example, telling the bride that the dress may be gone in a week) and would make the bride feel as if she had no choice but to buy the dress there and then. We were also encouraged to present extras such as storage packages as non-optional (they are optional) in order to meet targets,  very unethical and I hated it.

Advisories (written warnings) are given out for ridiculous reasons, I had one or two that were based on hearsay and not facts. Usually something the manager had thought she overheard me say, or what others told her.  This made me over-analyse everything I said to customers and co-workers, I would struggle to engage with brides comfortably and towards the end of my employment I would come into shifts feeling sick with nerves. Wondering what they would find wrong with me that day. Bullying by the managers is definitely a problem, I was targeted a lot towards the end of my time there. Aside from the baseless warnings, the manager would make it clear that I wasn't fitting in. 

The turnover rate is shocking, no one seems to last there more than a few months. 

If you want to work in bridal, as I did at the time. Please do not apply to this company, if you do. join a union.

The most incompetent company that I have ever worked for, management are raised by HR as bullies. the actual job was lovely, but when it came to management the disregard for mutual respect  is appalling. I had encountered more than one manager, as stores often swap around for cover or support, and through that time only one manager I met was nice.
You are watched through a microscope, management scurry off to their offices to chat on the phone to other incompetent managers whilst leaving staff to fend for themselves, standard advisors are expected to do far more than our pay grade. Not only that, but the founders of the company (who are a couple, or also known as the terrible two) have unrealistic standards and expectations for their staff throughout the company; called in sick? Advisory is given. Seem like you’re not selling enough? Advisory is given. Late by 2 minutes? Advisory given. Didn’t lick the floor clean? Advisory given.
Advisories and record of conversations are handed out like sweets, you are belittled and scrutinised and NEVER praised. I had a very good sales record but I was told I still hadn’t tried hard enough. I’m sure the company are a massive fan of The Hunger Games as they constantly try to get you and your collegeues to fight for ‘prizes’ in childish incentives, management make themselves seem untouchable so it’s no wonder they don’t become a true part of the team, and when that happens management will make every effort to split you apart from your friends/colleagues.
You are expected to live and breathe Wed2b, they want you to dedicate your entire life to it and still expect more, I do not right this from a place of bitterness, but as a warning to others who are thinking of joining the company, don’t waste your time. I can safely say I would rather clean public toilets for a living than work for this incompetent, manipulative company.

I started work at Wed2b thinking I had landed the Job of my dreams. Little did I know that this was going to change very quickly. 

The job itself as in fitting the brides in their gowns was so rewarding, listening to their plans and ideas for the big day was so interesting. But the pressure you were put under made it feel completely unnatural. 
When in training for the job we were told the company did not hard sell and push things on the bride. This was completely untrue. We were forced to pressure brides in to certain hairpieces and even dresses that didn’t fit just to get a sale. Which made us (the fitter) look really bad and made us very uncomfortable in the fits.
If we gave our opinion on feeling uncomfortable with doing this we were threatened with records of conversation for being negative. 
Every Saturday we had one to ones with the store manager which would result in having another thing to do while In a Fit forced on us and threatened with advisories for not complying. 

The girls working along side me were absolute angels and I couldn’t of asked for better team members. We all had each others back and looked out for each other. (Luckily as nobody else did). 

I have never suffered like this in a job before but after working here I was going home upset, angry and worried as my job was held against me constantly. To a point where i broke I could not take anymore of the nonsense myself and the girls were being fed daily. 
The company does not care about your state of mind just that you do as they say. Numerous people are walking out of jobs from all different stores and somehow nobody thinks this is alarming. I still speak to a lot of staff previous and existing and all feel the same way. 
The only thing they worry about is the reviews on here so have certain staff who currently work in stores to leave positive feedback to try outweigh negative so the star rating isn’t as low, it’s a complete joke.
