Various roles in Government offices such as local council, DEFRA and HMP | Edinburgh | 12 Dec 2019
Adequate agency in Aberdeen - although now based in Dundee due to recession in Aberdeen
I enjoyed temping here in the past - but there are no vacancies in admin at present due to the recession in Aberdeen. They always paid on time, and had good placements, although there is never any work security in the agency placements.
ProsOften there is a staff canteen and parking
ConsNo security for the future

Productive and convenient company
Convenient temporary contract work usually working 9-5pm. I have learned a lot of transferable skills, especially as i have done many roles at the University of Edinburgh. I have learned to adapt quickly. The management in these roles are always different. They do not always take all your skills in consideration when finding a role for you but it is convenient if you need short term work. There are different grades with different roles available so plenty choice within Education and Government roles.
Pros9-5 work
ConsSoulless office work

Relaxed work place
A typical day in the office is running internet reports and looking up Registrars to print off and send to clients that require them. Management and co-workers are very relaxed Hardest part of the job is searching for the registrars Most enjoyable part is looking at the final article when its ready to be posted out knowing that you have made the Certificate need and tidy
ProsGood relaxed atmosphhere
Consonly temporary assignment

Pertemps Highly Unsatisfying
Although this agency provided constant work, it was more often than not jobs which had nothing to do with the job description and job title. Very important positions were badly described, and were high security and a risk to the employee, and an extremely low rate of pay. When trying to negotiate with the agency about these issues, they were not forthcoming. Having been called to Jury Service, and having to turn down an assignment, the agency then refused to complete a loss of earnings certificate. This has resulted in 2 weeks loss of earnings and cancelling my contract with Pertemps.
Prosconstant work
Consbad reletions and management
City of Edinburgh Council | Edinburgh | 19 Feb 2019
Dreadful place to temp for.
Very rude and unpleasant consultants, have no concern for the welfare of their temps. Will always put their clients first regardless of the circumstances. Really unpleasant experience. Unprofessional company.
ConsRude staff, do not return calls/emails, uncaring and unsupportive.

Great place to work
I would open up the building in the morning, turn on computers and set up the meeting rooms for the day depending what clients were de in that day, Sign in everyone who entered the building, Send emails and book lunches, I asked for more work and was sending confidential letters/emails, data entry and also invoices. I learned how to do invoices and order stationary stock, I would also help the security officer test the fire alarms on a wed morning,
ProsFree 15min Break
ConsNot a lot of work but asked for more jobs to do
Library Assistant | Edinburgh | 7 May 2018
Dont do it to yourself...
I worked a contract for the Edin Council at the libraries. Worked it for about 2 years before Pertemps took over from Adecco. The work was fine, challenging but also very rewarding. There are some really lovely people working at the libraries, which really kept me going. Sadly, the agency is generally full of people with little or no people skills and generally quite arrogant. They never or rarely respond to a phone call/email even if they reassured me they will, never apologised for losing my documents and quite a few of other very similar events. Generally, I found contacting them to be a bit of a chore as its never pleasant. The worst is trying to confirm shifts. Once I had to call the actual library to check if Pertemps confirmed me working there. They said yes! It was good to know. Another time I volunteered for working on the bar at the Usher Hall. Never heard back so picked up work somewhere else till Pertemps called me 2h before the gig and demanded that I turn up. Generally, it's not worth it. Don't do it to yourself.
Prosthe agency treats people like trash, cant communicate in a respectful way or any way for that matter
Conslovely people working at the libraries, interesting job, steep learning curve
