Fun workplace
A very good choice for my school work experience as it gave me an idea of what a good and productive workplace is like. A very fun but respectable working environment.
ProsTreat fairly

Fun place to work, great collegues
Typical days work would be to go through 100+ emails, then key onto SAP invoices for payment, or alternatively do a Statement for one of you 50+ companies you are responsible for to Audit standard. I learned team work is important, but a lot of this type of work is time management, so I can work just as easily as an individual. The culture of the work place was a friendly environment, we could take our dogs to work with us. This releases a lot of stress in a stressful job. Pets at home make it a fun place to work, by involving everyone form every department in fun activities throughout the year. The hardest part of my job I would say was volume, but I've always been used to working on deadlines. The most enjoyable part of the job was the people I worked with, we were like family not work colleagues, and I was extremely sad to leave when I emigrated to Finland to be with my family
ProsFree Parking, 20% discount card for the stores
ConsCould be long hours, large volume of work

ProsAmerican pool at lunch and pets allowed in the office.
ConsDogs bark too loud sometimes

Good pay bad boss
Great place great staff really fun but management could be better couple think there is only one good manager left in the store some stuff could he better but you must be able to take the abuse from customers and stand up for yourself or you won't get anywhere apart from that go for it great experience

Loved it
You learn so much when you’re there and it’s one of those you get out what you put in jobs- I went from knowing nothing to small animal expert and dog nutritionist in 3 years - I had the opportunity to go for management but I didn’t want it! For retail it doesn’t get better- there are politics and management and staff problems but you get the at everywhere - ultimately I enjoyed it

Fun, Fun, Fun

Questions and answers about Pets at Home

How should you prepare for an interview at Pets at Home?
Asked 5 May 2017
Research the company. Think of answers for some out of the box questions (A friend of mine was asked what animal they would be for example) but most importantly don't panic because it isn't a typical process, it's hands on, enjoyable and more relaxed but not completely. Be yourself, be cheery, be funny and show charisma.

Just be yourself and answer the questions when required and make sure you bring important documents when asked

How does someone get hired at Pets at Home? What are the steps along the way?
Asked 6 Apr 2017
The recruitment process has changed since the above responses. Now; you complete an application form and submit with your cv. These are reviewed by head office recruitment team. If you pass this stage: A member of the recruitment team will call you for a telephone interview consisting of around 10-12 questions. This is the hardest stage to get through as only a small number progress to the next stage which is A combined work trial and interview. You’ll spend about an hour on the shop floor where they assess your customer service , rapport building and engagement, enthusiasms, communication and your manner and attitude when handling the animals. The interview is with a store manager or assistant manager and while quite relaxed and informal there are 15-20 questions that have to be covered. Overall the managers have an assessment guide to how they should judge candidates; but it’ll come down to the interviewing managers decision. In my case 2 people made it to the final interview for one role.

You can be from 16-retirement but as it is a physically demanding job I would not recommend for anyone who has many medical issues such as back problems.
