Nice company
Nice place to work but due to cutbacks all of IT are to go. A lack of knowledge of what IT has been doing over the last few years will make SIG a Lights on only business for some time to come. Its a real shame that its come to this
ProsGreat People
ConsSenior managers lack of understanding IT

productive work place
I learned a lot here and loved day to day work but in the end it just wasn't for me, management were okay never had any issues, there wasn't really a hard part to the job as I enjoyed the work and my colleagues.

Work day
At SIG I learned a lot of the insulation materials and the organization of the warehouse, how to deal with work mates, drivers, customers and general staff, how to check the stock. The management is in a soft way, you do not have a "policeman" all the time to see what you are doing, in a good way the "Boss" is one of "us". The culture in the workplace is good, starts on the Boss till the work mates everybody try to help, and the supervisors are the best. The hard part of the job is to pick heavy staff, but always there is someone to help. The most enjoyable part of the job is to drive the forklift and the good relation in the work place.
Pros10 minutes break morning and afternoon 1 hour lunch, hours of work

Pros no working on Saturday. Cons don't consider staff your just a number, top management are poor invest in silly no productive schemes waste fuel
Easy job made hard by internal politics and secretive not allowed to know to much about companies on going strategy. No advancement or even incouragement to progress within the company.
ProsNone
ConsNo leadership, the depot is crumbling around us, no incentive to progress. s

Interesting
Working for SIG in my role means I travel all over the country and visit many different types of business operations. Training people with different skills and ability can prove to be difficult, but SIG have allowed for this. The training lasts for upto 12 weeks, with time before new system is installed and after.
ProsTravel
ConsLong hours at times

Bad atmosphere to work in..
To many bullies n not enough people to bully..Supervisor couldnt supervise without threatening you with your job..the other supervisor was just a Greek bully.. Manager didn't like you for supporting a different team to him.. Great guys to work with when they weren't in a mood about supervisor/management
ProsFinishing Time
Consbullies

Productive and calm atmosphere
my day to day would be preparing orders for the next day, checking on deliveries so orders go out in full, PSI checks, stock location management, organise warehouse duties, Operations/transport admin. Through the course of my career i have learnt many skills such as :- Forklift licence, fire marshal, quality control, multi tasking, problem solving. Our Branch at Chesterfield was managed extremely well, any problem that arose was dealt with in a professional manner to a point the branch ran itself. The workplace was a calm & productive while still maintaining a busy schedule The hardest part about my job was multi tasking all the aspects of my job The most enjoyable part of my job was working with the staff as we had all been there for along time, we all knew each others strengths & weaknesses

Behind the times
The people are the best ting about the company. However, management and general process seems to be outdated and behind the curve. There are numerous issues within the company and the culture is one of them......................there is a lack of responsibility and care for staff members and also a lack of accountability

If you were in charge, what would you do to make SIG plc a better place to work?
Asked 14 Oct 2018
Go back to basics.. Concentrate on our core product.. Insulation.. Fire protection Off load the many add on companies that offer little benefit Strengthen the management team from top to bottom Go back to good solid depot management Give responsibility back to the branchs
Answered 22 May 2020
Actually tell the staff what is happening, they love their secrets. Actually appreciate that some staff gave 18 years of their life to this terrible company and treat them with respect. Stop taking on total self serving idiots as depot managers, or should that be depot closers.
