the people make the work place
Currently going through major change but even through these challanging times the people continue to make it a great place to work. the demand on the staff can be very stressful at times but with great support from senior managers you can feel like you can make a difference.
Great place to work
SSE is a large company but treats everyone as an individual and respects everyone's rights and opinions. Great ethical company and the pay is a fair living wage
New manager started and he didn’t have any clue or life experience and tried to put me onto a disciplinary for being off three times during a pregnancy during my probation period - of which the third time was because I had a late miscarriage - politely told him to F off and had to be sorted by higher management before I sued them

Good Work Colleagues
The other employees and your work colleagues are generally a good bunch of people. The teams I have worked in have been a happy and engaging and the best people I have worked with. There is also good benefits and the wages are well above minimum wage even for the lowest paid workers.
I do believe higher management are a bit less connected with the people on the ground floor and some of the recent decisions have not been the best.

SSE has been a great company to work for. They have been genuine in wanting and trying to do the best for employees and customers.
Opportunities have been available to those who work hard and smart.
More recently, business challenges have meant a change in the environment but I sincerely hope that SSE and its employees regain everything that made it a good place to work.
Good place for contractors
Little to say except was treated well and enjoyed having responsibility to work on interesting stuff.

Busy and Friendly Workplace
I worked in 3 departments from 2006 - 2011.
I worked in Data Entry in my 1st department, working with Sales Consultants.
I worked in Contract Admin in my 2nd department, working with Sales Consultants and Field Sales Agencies.
I worked in Business Marketing as a Admin Assistant in my 3rd department, working with managers, promotions agencies, advertising agencies and events companies.
All was very busy at times, but worked with some good people who was always helpful.

Purely about targets which for the most part, are unobtainable. Part time staff have similar targets for full timers but the call numbers make it impossible to reach. So many issues when targets aren’t met and you have to give reason after reason why you can’t sell central heating cover in the middle of summer!
Cannot hang up on customers so having customers scream at you for 30 minutes is common but you’re expected to take it. Then get moaned at for taking too long on the phone without a sale and moaned at for raising a complaint and making more work. Managers often refuse to take escalated calls. Retention is awful because staff are treated as disposable.
Dedicated great place to work team who promise the stars but do literally nothing to implement it.
They say there’s tonnes of progression but it’s dead mans shoes in that place. Call agents have been there for years trying to progress and it isn’t because they’re not talented, there just isn’t the progression available.
My manager told me the ins and outs of colleagues personal meetings, resignation reasons, disciplinary meetings and conversations and spoke negatively about other staff members often. I know a lot about staff because my manager couldn’t stop gossiping and giving out confidential information.
Managers give half of their managerial work to agents because they can’t be bothered and leave work constantly to run personal errands.
The ONLY saving grace about that place is the free parking.

Good for ITs
Its an IT company venturing in other business areas that are not what the company was designed to do. They seek to Capitalize in aerospace training development and their lack of experience in this field makes it hard on the small team assigned to do the task.
Conslack of communication, Management not involved, almost inexistent

Professional environment among prior Navy peers. Great working hours with flex time. Leave time accumulates rapidly. Paid holidays and provides a fair salary for previous experience.
