I have worked for Apollo for a good few years now and have a mixed experiance but overall positive.

 The service users and packages of care are wonderful, don't get me wrong you get a few difficult ones as you would anywhere, but overall my experiance of working with the service users is brilliant, often very complex so it is not a type of care you go into lightly atall, it is very medical/clinical based care (my experiance anyway) so be ready to be busy and have challenging shifts but its worthwhile when seeing our service users happy, healthy and comfortable. The nurses are great! Always quick to pick up the phone or answer an email and show real care and vigilance in what they do! They will hold back competencies, do extra training and have regular conversations with you to make sure you feel ready and comfortable and are very supportive and encouraging to us workers and our service users.

You read many reveiws on here from a few years ago about the west Midlands office which at the time hold alot of truth, however, currently the office communication and care taken in supporting the care assistants has massively improved. 

The consultants are easy to get hold of ,are easy to talk to and pleasant to work with. They will work with you if you need to change your availability and are understanding and supportive with personal issues that could be affecting work. 
However, I do still know of some of the office staff being untruthful about care assistants to cover their own back when talking to service users and their families. This is unhelpful as it can affect our relationships with the service users and their families. And I do understand the notion of some reviews of sometimes the office having less respect for your time out of work and yes there are definatley some consultants who can be rude. I'm sure they could say the same about the care staff too though with that one. Overall though, a nice and supportive group of people to have as management.

Once established on a few package of care it's pretty easy to get regular hours, I have the same hours every week so it has stability, however if shifts are cancelled it can be hard to get allocated somewhere else and you can end up losing out financially. This is most zero hours contracts though, so not directly apollos fault.

The training opportunities are pretty good, you can get trained in areas you wouldn't nessecarily in other company's, however, most of the time you have to travel to their office which is very awkward to get to and you are not paid for any training, which in other company's you do.  

I'm not sure about new starters now but it did take me a about a month to get my first paying shifts as training was abit sporadic. I've never been underpaid or had late payments. It is zero hour contract which can have it's lows but also means you have control over your hours and it can be a great role for someone that needs less rigid hours. Pay is pretty good, but no there is no benefits

Overall, I would recommend to work here, you get to work with some phenomenal people and can get real fulfilment in this job, and much more clinical experiance than you can in other company's. 

This is the only care company that I've worked for that has treated me with respect from day one and continues to do so after 18 months.  There's usually a honeymoon period and after a few months you get to know what people are truly like which unfortunately isn't usually as nice as they perceive themselves to be when you first start.  This hasn't happened with Apollo and I personally have a good relationship with all the staff members in the office.  I report to two coordinators in the office with having two different clients but if they're not available then anyone else in the office will always do their best to support me.   
I work 12 hour night shifts and although we do have the oncall number to call if we need support I would never call them up unless absolutely necessary.  I do feel that the night staff have a lot of responsibility for making judgement calls but most night staff are very strong confident people who have initiative and common sense.  If issues occur during the night and we deal with them appropriately we are treated with respect when we report them in the morning.
Staff are asked for their availability for  the month ahead and then rotas are sent out,  If you have a problem with any of the rotas then the office will do whatever they can to sort things out for you and give you the shifts that you need.   
Training is carried out at the start of your employment face to face at your local office and unfortunately you don't get paid for attending this, neither do you get paid for attending the ongoing online/zoom mandatory training.  Training is compulsory and if you don't complete the training courses then you'll be non compliant and taken off all your shifts until you've completed them.  If you want to progress with your career then you are given the opportunity to gain additional qualifications which would be very costly if we had to pay for them ourselves.  
I particularly appreciate the weekly pay with Apollo.  There are different rates of pay depending on the clients needs and how much complex care is provided, these are higher than most other care companies.  The annual leave and holiday pay also works very well for me too, if I don't take time off then I can build up the holiday pay and have extra money in my wage whenever I want to draw it out of the pot. 
I work with a great team of HCA's and we're a very close team who support each other as much as we can.  We don't like to take time off sick as we know the pressure it creates in getting cover so we all know that if someone is off ill then they're genuinely not well enough to be at work.
I consider myself to be very lucky to work for Apollo. 

As previously stated in other reviews the management are atrocious, dishonest, unprofessional and don't care about staff or clients. If you are not well in with management and prepared to give up your life to work ridiculous amounts of hours and at the drop of a hat then don't bother applying you will be treated terrible. One example -  you are in bed having worked a twelve hour night shift and due to do another shift tonight, they will ring you whilst sleeping to discuss either changing your shift or asking you to fill more shifts!!!! Your not allowed to sleep!!!! You will be put into clients houses not knowing them but expected to care for their complex needs- unsafe! Management and office staff are rude uncaring and dishonest to you. Rotas are constantly being changed sometimes without your knowledge and you will be expected to cover the shifts. Clients are often left without care and management will blame it on the carer saying you can't do the shift when in reality they have moved you to a different client making you look like the bad one!! Shifts are long and at times you won't get a break throughout your shift. 
The clients are generally lovely people but do get upset at times towards the management and the way they are treated and they will unberden this to you. 
They advertise pay rates at £9-£11 ph this is untrue you will be on basic pay until you are signed of on packages and even after that pay rates are lower depending on which clients you go to check before you agree to anything.
They will start you on a clients package in the beginning but after a month or so when your training is completed you will be sent here there and everywhere and you won't get petrol allowance. 
My advise is beware of what you are letting ypurself in for if you decide to work for this company.
Final words if you become unwell or your child is unwell don't think you can ring in sick as you will be told you have to go to your shift nevermind that you will be passing germs to vulnerable sick clients you have to attend or you will find yourself being called into the office for supervision!! 
You want to work 60 hours a week, no problem but don't expect this all the time because one week you may get this but the next week you may get eight hours!!

Work is community based in clients own homes and tasks/responsibilities are specific to each person. The work environment within the clients home is dependent on dynamics with client/family/colleagues so can be either enjoyable or stressful.  The role of HCA at Apollo can be extremely beneficial if looking to learn and develop clinical skills. Training is adequate, with general theory of specific procedures, and competence checks carried out by qualified nurses. If allocated a double handed package shadowing is carried out as the second carer, and the hardworking, competent staff will deliver the rest of the training that is specific to that client, whilst taking sole responsibility for the safe running of that shift. 
Management is hit and miss, there are some that are extremely helpful and seem to know what they are doing, and others that repeat the same script and have a bad attitude with HCA’s and clients. During induction processes all paper work is handed to new employees to sign there and then with little time to read through, you are told you will receive copies of staff handbook Via email (which you won’t). Advice would be to take the the paperwork away, read it thoroughly before signing, and don’t sign for anything you don’t receive, otherwise you may come to regret this later on. The oncall system in my opinion is unsafe. The oncall handlers do not step in to cover in emergencies and little effort is made to find alternative cover if unable to cover with Apollo HCAs resulting in people having to remain on shift; in an unfit state; without sufficient rest/break; choice/ freedom to leave threatened with repercussion. The alternative option is for the client to go to hospital, which obviously all involved would rather avoid.
The best part of the job is relationships you build with the clients and the development of clinical skills.
The worst part is the lack of support and the telephone manner of some managers/consultants, training isn’t paid and refresher training comes at a cost to the employee (either loss of earnings or loss of a day off). 


Applied for the job role in 2017 advertised that they paid Milage. Had an interview had to travel nearly 70 miles one way to get there. Had 3 days training in a row, unpaid and no Milage paid. Travelled around 590 miles for my interview and training. Was told if I wanted my training certificates I would have to pay £200 for them. They would not even allow you to have a pdf copy. 

Had packages permantly cancelled on me the day or a few days before my shift, left me without any hours. Had another package the hours reduced a lot very rapidly. Couldn't provide any hours for me. Ended up leaving at 10 months of employment. Even when I had left I would recieve calls asking if I could cover shifts, when I did not work for the company.

Would constantly email me blank timesheets every week which became bothersome as I did not work for them. Took months for them to correct this error. They phoned me in 2019 telling me that they had the hours that I needed and it was guaranteed. I left my job which was contracted hours to come back to work for Apollo. Bad mistake there is a reason why I left in the first place. Within 8 weeks of re-employment I had a few weeks where I had no work. They led me on and then told that the package is permantly cancelled. 

Now I had no package, no job, no hours and no pay. They offered the hours on another package, due to the distance I made clear I couldn't do it without Milage being paid for. They agreed to pay Milage and then went back on their word. 

Very unreliable company to work for your job could be literally lost overnight. Untrustworthy management give you false information to draw you in. Unstable there is no job security. Everything with them is unpredictable.

Working for Apollo allows you to work the hours that suit you; working around family and other commitments, with no pressure to undertake extra shifts, unless you want to. 

The management and office team are organised and friendly; lovely people, with time-sheets coming out in advance so you can plan around the shifts you have, and a friendly voice on the phone 24 hours a day if you need any advice or have a concern regarding shifts; or indeed a concern about a client.

I am very impressed with how the Heywood office has handled the Covid outbreak and lock down periods for both staff and those they care for, with all changes to working practice being clear and timely so as to not interrupt packages of care for clients. All the new PPE guidance and equipment changes again being explained and delivered in a timely manner to prevent undue concern. This has given families the confidence to continue with much needed support, and reduced any concerns they had regarding the safety of their vulnerable children.

The most enjoyable part of the job for myself is in providing high class care and treatments to the children who I work with and their families. Something that I am only able to do due to the organisation of workplace systems that Apollo have put into place.

I worked for this company for 9 years within one complex care package. The role itself required responsibility, specialist care skills, long night shifts, and ongoing attention to the client’s safety and wellbeing. Over the years I gained valuable experience in complex care and crisis management.

The most rewarding part of the job was supporting the client directly and being part of a stable long-term care package.

However, in the later years of my employment, communication and organisation became increasingly stressful. In my experience, shifts could appear, disappear, or change in the rota system with very limited notice or without prior discussion, making it extremely difficult to plan personal life or finances with confidence.

Communication from the office also became frustrating at times. Important emails regarding availability, scheduling, or contractual questions could remain unanswered for long periods, while urgent cover requests often required immediate responses from staff.

One of the hardest parts of the role was the growing uncertainty around scheduling and the pressure connected with staffing shortages and training arrangements after night shifts.
