I took a zero hours contract and I was promised a minimum of 2 shifts per week, but NOT guaranteed.  I did all the training that was required, and I thought then I would get a few shifts.  I had to wait for shifts to come through, and I was shadowed.  It took two months to get my 3 shadow shifts, so that I could then be signed off to work alone.  I wish I had not of bothered with this company, as it just wasted my time, waiting and waiting for work.  It would be a nice company to work for if they took you on a proper contract.  I can see why they don't, as there is hardly any work.  They also have so many computer systems, i.e one for expenses, time sheets, payslips, email etc, you need a flowchart to submit your time sheet.  It makes life so stressful, I have been a temporarily work for a few years and I have never had a system so frustrating.  I have still not been paid for some of the training and a shadow shift I have done and I have not been paid for my expenses, which I have complained about on numerous times.  Unfortunately I gave up in the end and found myself another temp job with better stable hours.

-Been working for Bionical three years as a community TPN nurse on a contract basis.
-The company expects nurses to use their own cars for work, and offers £400/m (on a full-time contract) for this, which is taxed. We are paid 20p/mile petrol. The wear and tear and depreciation on our cars is huge, and additionally we need to pay extra in insurance for business use and high mileage. 
-We are expected to work Bank Holidays (including Easter and Christmas day) for the same low hourly rate if those days fall on our normal rolling rota. There is no enhancement, and no day in lieu offered. Our hourly rate is not even £5 above the National minimum working wage.
-Immediate Senior Nurse and Regional Manager are excellent and supportive, but higher up the chain the people who make decisions about the pay structure and working conditions demonstrate a clear disregard for the nurses who actually deliver the service to the patients.

The lovely patients and some support nurses in hospitals that help you with your rounds of you have a query 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Having to chase the company up for pay, I got a December payment in May and a May payment in July! Also the expectation and insistence of you doing a double shift... Working two areas instead of one. I got to a patients house one day and hadn't eaten, so they made me toast and fruit and a drink as it was so late. No management reached out to see if I was ok even though they knew I was up against it. There's no work/ life balance here, the wage may be ok but you will work for it and have to check you are paid correctly

They expect you to give your all, but will still expect more of you... Lack of support 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The best thing is you are on your own, but if you're late to a patients house due to traffic and you can't ring them, they will let you know about it ...

A typical day would include a 7am start at the patients place of residence. You’ll have your electrical equipment phone, tablet so you can log everything or call the office if need be. You’ll be there to disconnect, connect or set up a patients dialysis therapy. Depending on the patient they might like you or they might not which depends on how smooth the job goes. There are morning or nights shifts sometimes both in one day as the company runs from 7-10pm and patients need covering. I had a few bad reviews from clients reporting to me as a new HCA. Expenses aren’t paid in full or at all in my case which include; mileage, congestion charge and training expenses. Quite a physical job so you’ll need to be physically fit. The office can dump work on you last minute wherever that might be. One particular office staff was rude to me despite me still being new learning the ropes. 

Bionical really is a great place to work, I have nothing but posititve expieriences from working here. There is great job satisfaction with the quality of services we are offering for our patients. 
At Bionical I feel that I am listened to by managers and senior managers, if changes in practice are required and then these are swiftly implemented and supported, which in my previous roles has not been the case. 
The office is in a great central location in the UK and when attending the office everyone is really friendly and inclusive. 
The company is growing really quickly and there are lots of oppertunities for progression.
Ive worked at bionical as a nurse for 18 months now following working for 2 other companies (a pharma company and a medical device company) over the last 6 years, prior to which I worked as an accident and emergency nurse within the NHS.

I loved this job!  Since the location was in the South West, there was lots of driving, but, luckily, I love driving.  I loved the one on one patient contact, and due to having regular patients, the nurse/patient relationships were great.  This job may not be for you if you don't like driving or seeing the same patients day in day out.  I felt fully supported by management.  However, the out of hours helpline, was somewhat lacking when looking for advice.  The biggest drawback with this job, which was the main reason for leaving was having to use my own car, fair enough, a car allowance was paid, and minimal mileage, but, I feel they would retain their staff better if an employee could opt for a company car and fuel card, rather than putting huge amounts of miles on your own car.. my car was dying a slow and painful death!


What is the best part of working at the company?
It's a very interesting job . Enjoyed the lone working . Good to have the security of being contracted.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Never knowing where you are going to be working from one day to another , you can go to bed ready for going to one area the next day only to get up that day and find it has been changed

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work culture consists of being treated like a dog , you feel completely worthless . Bullied into working overtime and on your days off  . Undervalued and underpaid. Not unusual to drive around 500 mile over a weekend.

Stressful and being messed about  , harassed on the phone multiple times in a day

This company expects you to travel hundreds of miles per week in your own car .They expect you to hire a car if your car breaks down , no help with any costs towards car upkeep . Ended up costing me to work for this company .
They expect you to be available 24/7 .
Everything is done on an app which if you are somewhere with no signal ..tough or if you run out of data ..tough ! 
The extra hours you put in of your own time ( which is alot !) You do not get paid for.
I never met a team leader or manager face to face all done on teams ( in your own time) 
Private company out to make as much money as possible with no regard for their staff. My advice , avoid this company at all costs , there are alot of better companies to work for .


Started this job with the promise of work local being taken on, months down the line I'm still waiting and travelling in excess of 200 miles per day.
Dispite constant calls and emails to management with issues no support is provided and all communication is ignored unless your willing to cover shifts the other side of the country then you might just get a little something back.
This isn't a caring or healthcare profession, you are signing up to be a delivery driver without getting paid delivery driver wages. Say goodbye to your car, you will need a new one within a year of doing this job.
RTs/HCAs are treated with 0 respect by the nurses, it's the most toxic environment I have ever come across.

Visiting patients every day and forming a bond & trust with them…
every day was different .
We Helped make a difference as RT’s  
..until all of a sudden we were no longer needed by Bionical & made redundant !!!

Communication.. lack of it 
Felt used / Betrayed / lied to / felt un heard 
Unsupported

Company weren’t supportive , 
people leaving regularly from the office etc ..

You just never knew how the day was going to be as mistakes & lack of communication from the office .
