In my time here I started in the main office helping take off from drawings and quoting materials, which was great as the whole team helped out and worked together. However once I switched to work in the showroom that support was no longer there. Anyone who was asked for even a toilet seat (which are stocked on the shelf) would send the customer straight to me, whether I had a customer in designing a kitchen or not.
In the showroom you are expected to not only do the designs with Fusion 2020 CAD software, but you also have to price them using a different system, and then order using a third system, which then generates a lot of paperwork to organise yourself. Then when deliveries arrive from different suppliers you are expected to go out and check them off yourself, and then file the separate delivery notes. These delivery notes are then filed once more with the main office paperwork, but again it is expected that you have to do this... not the admin colleague. 
All this would go on and then you'd still have a queue of customers asking for a toilet seat, kitchen and three bathrooms!
All in all, the showrooms aren't run very well from my experience. There is no support from management and you have to do everything yourself. Including cleaning the displays! 
However working down in the main office is a much better environment, although you still have to sort your own problems out.
All this and more... for minimum wage, a single half hour break in the day, 47.75 hours a week, and two stock takes annually (working from 7:45am to 10:00pm!)

I've worked for this organisation for over 4 years now & I've grown tremendously since my first day. When I joined I was lacking in confidence & looking to work for an organisation that shared my values, would allow me to grow and develop, & I wanted to work as part of a team who cares. I have found exactly that working here! The team I work with are brilliant, we all care about one another & are always happy to help out when a colleague is in need or just need to get the job done. Building trust & good relationships is another of my key values. Working here I get to meet & talk to so many people across the business that do a wide variety of roles & I enjoy learning all about who they are, what they do, & what I can do to support them. The relationship I have with the management team is also another really important value of mine & I believe the management here are really invested in their people. This is the first organisation I've worked for where I feel the senior management team really care about their employees & want to help them develop in their career, no matter what direction that takes. I'm a hard worker & I care about the work I do so I am the kind of person to check my emails at night & do a bit of work at the weekend. What's really refreshing is that in this organisation you get recognised for the effort you put in - a thank you or well done really does go a long way & again, this is one of my key values. Overall I would say this is a great company to work for & for the first time I'm excited about seeing my career take off.

By all accounts used to be a decent place to work but in the time I've been there it's got worse pretty fast with the virtually stagnant wage rises and the cost of living you barley get paid more than minimum wage unless your in a management position of which there is way to many . Also really demoralising receiving emails and news of how much money there making as a company and seeing more management being hired on good money  and given expensive company cars with with all the perks but those actually doing all the donkey work getting as little as possible and treated poorly . The company seems to have lost sight of who is important in the company the face of the company that deals with with and talks to the paying customers/companies on a day to day basis and is expected to be friendly and professional at all time like your told time and time again because we are the important face of the company but not important enough to pay a decent wage . I feel sorry for the managers trying to keep moral up in the branches of which I've been to many and the job of trying to sell the job to new employees to replace the so many that have left recently this could be a GREAT PLACE TO WORK (DASH) old boy if you pulled your head out of your AR_E and put your finger on the pulse and realised how many great lads and lasses there is working in yards across the country out in all weather's for 55 hour a week and barley being able to afford to pay the bills disgusting really. 

The people at Huws Gray are genuinely friendly and supportive, and I have no criticism of my colleagues or immediate management.

However, prospective HIAB drivers should pay close attention to any training repayment agreements (Golden Handcuffs) before signing them.

I was required to sign a training cost recovery agreement before being allowed to attend a two day ALLMI HIAB course. While I received certification, I found the practical training extremely limited and not representative of real world deliveries involving restricted access, traffic, pedestrians and site specific hazards.

In my opinion, the course did not provide enough practical experience to leave a new operator feeling genuinely competent or confident. Most of the learning took place afterwards on live jobs.

When I later left the business, the full training cost was recovered from my final salary. Had I fully understood the extent of the repayment obligation relative to the level of training delivered, I would have thought much more carefully before signing the agreement.

My advice to anyone considering a similar role is to read any training repayment agreement very carefully and ensure you are comfortable with the financial risk before committing.

Nothing you are overworked they pile more and more work and don’t give you any help

Pricing and delivering a good service without the tools or people 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Dreadful it’s jobs for the boys there is no chance of promotion within despite you are expected to work over your contracted hours to get the work done. they overlook you for any recognition for your hard work and they don’t pay overtime. Anyone who leaves doesn’t get replaced and you have to cover that job also 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It starts before the shift begins you are expected to constantly serve customers answer calls and emails there are no help from management it’s constant also stock has to ordered and shelves to be stacked until recently lunch was to be eaten at your desk and toilet breaks were rushed if you got the rare chance to run through to the toilet between calls or visiting customers. The day ends after the shift with banking to be done and end of day orders to be organised and through in time for deliveries and the place locked up and secure

If you like to be treated like a dog while your co workers who have been there since day dot swan around having a easy life, this is the place to be.
 Management are only concerned in getting you out the gate with as much materials loaded on you as the vehicle will carry, which you end up handballing constantly. Not the best vehicles either as all are about ten years old and falling to bits.

Management have no idea how long it takes to either get to your destination or how long it takes to tip,  whats invovled or what day it is.
This company does not have anything dinamic going for it, they just keep going from one disaster to another mainly because they are allways under staffed and rock bottom staff morale, having to constantly apollogis to customers all day, is something you have to get used to even though it is quiet embarrassing.
all in all this company gives you the impression that is going down down down down just like other companies who thought they could carry on trading, only on their past reputation and not investing in the future.

The salary is only high because your working an average of 47 hours a week on a low hourly rate. One week is 5 days in, one week is 6 days in (Saturday morning) rotating. 

It's nowhere near 27k as advertised even with the yearly bonuses taken into consideration. It's closer to 24k!

I was given the tools and equipment needed to do my job on day one, which was a plus.

There is no control over the customers who are able to freely wonder around a busy yard where there are lorries and fork lifts always in operation, can be a bit chaotic. 

The training is giving by staff the same level as you and no real training by management or feedback is given, it's all a bit slap dash. The forklift training is good and completed with an outside company on-site. 

Some of the guys who work there are good, The older members of staff act like they're your boss, which is annoying. Some of them are grumpy and snappy especially to new staff. Customers are friendly though. 

Not the worst place I've worked, but not the best either.



I could kick myself was offered 2 positions of employment and I chose buildbase, was lied to at the interview not THE interview as the so called branch manager didn't turn up at the first appointment i should have taken that as a red flag. Lorries are not road worthy was also cautioned for marking down on vehicle check sheet about finding defects witnessed the transport manager going through scrubbing out defects listed as someone from head office was coming.
Lorries constantly overloaded by tonnes. Tie down straps frayed and damaged. no delivery planning so you will deliver in the morning and then yards down the road in the afternoon. Branch manager and transport manager take turns going home early or as they say recouping hours they must be on a 20hr week contract the time they take off where as you will work over your hours no overtime even want you to work through your breaks.
 Branch manager never on time so when he has to open up Saturday morning staff and customers are standing in the carpark waiting for this clown. 
Head office allows this to continue so infact endorse this behaviour from their branch managers.

Bad place had a very disappointing experience with this company and would not recommend it to others. The customer service was poor from the beginning and staff seemed uninterested in helping resolve my concerns. The communication was slow and I had to repeatedly chase for updates that should have been provided automatically. The quality of the service did not meet my expectations and I felt that my time and money were not valued. There were multiple mistakes made and rather than taking responsibility the team made excuses and failed to provide a proper solution. The overall experience felt unprofessional and frustrating throughout the process. I expected a much higher standard considering the reputation of the business but unfortunately it did not deliver on its promises at all. I would think carefully before using this service again and hope the company improves its standards customer care and reliability in the future too.

As i already was used to waking up for school, i started work at the same time. This was easy for me, however the days were longer and the breaks were shorter. 
From this job i had learned different types of skills such as time management and being able to complete the task to a suitable standard. There were some occasions that i was under pressure as i was left alone to handle an order and invoice for the very first time. i would say that I handled that very well as i got it sorted within 5 minutes.
My co-workers were very nice throughout the entire time I was working there. They treated me with respect and as did I. 
The hardest part of the job was actually keeping a consistency with the tasks i was doing throughout the day. Even though this was the hardest thing, i kept my consistency.
The most enjoyable part of the job was honestly helping other employees as I like to help others when they need help.
