I have worked for Allied Healthcare for a number of years and I have to say this organisation is truely fantastic!  I have previously worked for other homecare providers and everything that Allied do is above and beyond for both their employees and their customers.

Allied have recently rolled out a set shfit pattern across the company which includes working 3 and 4 days-on on alternate weeks and includes alternate weekend working.  This means that all care workers have identified days of working and identified days off on a weekly basis.  Its great how this now means I can spend regular time with my family and go on trips out to see friends without worry.

The branch and management staff are all really friendly and have all been care workers themselves at one point or another so have a great empathy for the front line care staff.  If ever there was any kind of negative about the role, it would perhaps be that the pay for a care worker is not fantastic - but it does pay my bills.  I have no stress what so ever, and I take great pride and satisfaction in the fact that every evening I go home with a smile on my face and congratulate myself on a job well done in helping my clients through another day!

My clients are all brilliant and are really grateful for the help and support I give them.  I see the same clients regularly so it means that we have managed to get into a routine with eachother and it almost feels like my clients and colleagues are extended family members because we all work together so well!

Everything about my role as a care worker with Allied Healthcare is so good that when my grandmother fell ill, I asked my manager if we could arrange some care at home on a private basis for her.  

This was all done perfectly and I was able to see the efforts put in by the branch and management ahead of care workers like myself providing cares to the clients.  

I cannot speak highly enough of Allied Healthcare!  My advice to anyone who is thinking about a career in care would be to go for it!  Some care providers are not as good as others, but Allied gave me all of the skills and qualifications I needed to establish a life long career in care.  They even arranged and funded by NVQ2 in Health & Social care for me!

The typical day at work is busy and you usually have regular clients, regular clients are the highlight of this job. The company are very trusting to their staff which makes your feel good during the shift, the office do have your back if they need to. its a very independent job with high reward from clients.

The on call team and very supportive and kind, the phone is always answered. All office staff have been in the carers shoes. You are not rushed on shift, but the office will check up on you if you're running late, they're always understanding with this.

There is no problem with the regular shifts but ones that you're made to pick up sometimes can be very stressful without much warning and these are usually put on you last minute. They also call call call on your days off. You will be pressured to pick up shifts and the office staff make it very hard to say no. It's sad that it is short staffed, the pressure from this was emotionally draining.

It's difficult to call in sick, it's usually met with attitude and intrusive questions. You will probably end up running yourself into the ground. 

The office are under high pressure too, which falls down on the carers. Sometimes its hard to feel understood and the office aren't sympathetic if you have reasons to not be able to work a shift, and they can get personal and project their stress onto you. This is a job where you ideally need a stable life with not many responsibilities of your own, so as it doesn't interfere with work.

if you're on a regular run sometimes they will change your clients without telling you and this can be stressful especially if you don't know the area well.  You don't bump into colleagues on a shift and can get very lonely at night. night shifts can also be unsettling as a woman being sent into unknown areas.

This job is so rewarding and the clients are always so lovely and polite, it is easy to build relationships with them. The girls in the office are lovely. But the downsides let the job down unfortunately.

The care and support offered by Caremark are second to none. The staff members are highly skilled, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring individuals who go above and beyond to ensure the well-being and comfort of their clients. Their dedication shines through in every interaction and service they provide.

What impressed me the most was the personalised approach to care. Caremark takes the time to understand the unique needs and preferences of each individual, tailoring their services accordingly. A typical day at work consists of having a call at 8am, which is going to an elderly with mild dementia using the key safe to let my self in and calling out to let her know i have arrived, then greeting her and asking her what she wants for breakfast, then preparing that for her, after breakfast assit with medication, then clear up and wash the dishes and then bring fresh water in the living room and a few snacks for later incase she gets peckish before i see her again, then assist with strip wash, then dressing with choice of clothing then assisting into the living room and then signing the careplan and medication log then have a chat about her previous day or maybe anything else she love to talk about then collect the new paper of the day from the day, ask if she needs anything else, finally emoty out the dental case and putting fresh water till later inform am leaving and go to the next client.
with this job it has helped me learn to be patient and more caring than i already was, help me understand that 30 mins of my time can make someone else day,during a double call its more comforting as you can learn from your other collegue as much as they may be learning from you and its also nice to know that someone is there to help and this can help make usre you do things quicker than maybe you would have done if alone and this is also good as your client will feel more jubiliant to have more than one guest to chat with, the hardest part of this job is the travelling if you dont drive and also seeing elder people kinder struggling to do things you may have though are the easiest things to do. the most enjoyable part of this job is knowing that at the end of the day you have atleast put a smile on 4/5 peoples face just by being there and spending time with them.

Your working day may start at 7am and finish 12 hours later, but because its a zero hours contract you only get paid for the calls you do. So you may have a one hour call followed by a gap of an hour then have a half hour call followed by another small or large gap. Ok if you are near home but not if you are a few miles away. Lots of sitting in lay-bys! If a call is cancelled you don't get paid for it. You are doing many miles in your own car, using your own fuel. Often you'll be given no time between calls and get into trouble if you're not there on time, which can be stressful. You do get to meet some lovely people, but also some very difficult, even aggressive people...they don't all want you in their homes! The training is totally inadequate, which you don't appreciate until you are out in the field. Sometimes its a very steep learning curve, especially when you are thrown into a potentially dangerous position for both yourself and the service user. Ideally for people bringing a second wage into the house. Definitely not recommended for single people as the hours go up and down. One week you can be having to claim job seekers & housing benefit because of lack of hours, the next you are signed off because your hours triple. Don't expect 35 hours just because thats what you request! Rota's only received on a friday for the following week, so you can't plan anything in advance. All co-workers continually complain about all above issues. The management are helpful and it must be a logistical nightmare as service users cancel at the last minute, go into respite, hospital and of course die, which all affects the call rota's....and ultimately your wage packet. Zero hours contracts need to be abolished.

My day to day job is to help support children and the elderly,to ensure they continue to live a happy,healthy, independent life within their own homes.This consists of helping and supporting them with personal care, meals,shopping,participating on days out and much more. Caremark has a brilliant set of dedicated care workers,and the management is beyond outstanding.Together we all work as a close team and make sure our clients receive the best quality of care. Working for Caremark is an absolute pleasure and so rewarding.The quality and quantity of training and support they provide is  professional and always on going to keep all of its staff refreshed and upto date.There are many opportunities that arise within the company that will allow a care worker to grow and become more experienced.Additional training to meet specific people and their needs can also be offered in order for you to become more knowledgeable and confident in specific areas you would like to progress further with.Every day I am learning new things and becoming more confident, and this is down to the exceptional management team that are always professional,consistent and extremely supportive.  Caremark continues to grow and always aims to maintain and exceed all expectations from CQC in order to keep our clients at the heart of our care and attention. I am so proud to be part of the Caremark Wakefield team and will continue to grow and do my best to help make a difference for the company, by taking any extra support and training offered to me to become a better experienced care worker and hopefully one day a field care supervisor.

Working at Caremark is great but due to shortage of staff can be difficult, a lot of carers call in sick and sometimes you are expected to cover. 
If you are a driver is better as you can get to clients in a much faster pace , as a walking carer you have to rely on busses and physically can be straining. 
The office is great we have high standard so you are expected to keep standards to same level. Clients are lovely no compared whatsoever. The only downfall at the moment would be the pay but unfortunately it has nothing to do with our company, the living costs are increasing and company struggling to keep up with it due to multiple reasons such as low clientele, and short staff . They unfortunately can’t raise wages as bot enough clients due to not having enough carers. 
It’s a shame really but they are doing their best to keep things at bay . 
Very helpful when comes down to mental health, and of course like any other place you have to earn trust , but that goes the same for everyone. 
Life work balance at the moment is practically unreachable, Caremark need more drivers in order to get things better for walkers . 
You’ll be expected to cover shifts all over in case shortage but generally you’ll be working in your residential area(area that you live in) . 

Colleges are supportive and kind , clients on the other side you might have those who complain a lot or not at all , but can you blame them ? They all need some sort of care , so you need to be emphatic and understanding of their needs as well as that need to have common sense and punctuality is important, early shifts and late shifts . 
On the plus side you can get up to 4 hours break on a day that you do a split shift . 

I like working for Caremark but due to economic crisis have to change jobs . 

I have worked for Caremark in Cheltenham for a year, this is my first care job and I was very excited to start my new carer.
unfortunately there were some aspects of the job that were not made clear from the beginning.
the training was really good, but unfortunately did not reflect the work once you got out in the field.
you enter on a zero hour contract, you will have to apply separately if you wish to become contracted.  this again isn't made clear, you are asked to sign an 'agreement'  you will not be given a copy of this, so read it carefully, a electronic copy can be found on the works app, although you will not be shown how to access this.
also be aware, there is a months notice for any time off or holidays and management reserve the right to decline and requests, as an example, all carers were sent emails decline any time off through July and August this year. 
also be aware that any calls on zero hours contracted staff can be removed and given to contract workers, at very short notice even if they are regular clients you have been visiting for an extended period of , leaving the zero hours worker with very few hours and gaps in-between which are unpaid.
you will also be called on your days off at very short notice, a lot  to provide cover for colleagues an are made to feel quite guilty you decline.
The upside of this role is that the clients are amazing and work colleagues go above and beyond their work role and are  totally dedicated to the jobs.  

Terrible.  I was there about 8 months. 
The office do not appreciate what we do.. 
some days I had to many clients to see, so it affected my travel time, between some visits I didn’t have any travel time at all. 

Constant phone calls on my days off to work, I would tell them I’ve made plans and they would still continue to ring me on my day off. 

Rota changes with no notice. 

Sending me to areas I didn’t want to go to. 

I had some lovely client relationships, which was the best part of the job. 

I was there nearly 8 months & didn’t receive my care certificate or get paid for the training. Which I would told I would get paid for. 

Terrible petrol allowance, much lower than the government recommended amount. So I was always out of pocket every month. 

No help with car costs.. I had 3 punctures and damaged paint work due to travelling on awful roads that I didn’t want to go to in the first place. So out of pocket again. 

Constant back and forth between boroughs so often late.. they could keep staff in the same areas but to much favouritism for that. Only the selected few got to stay in their own town. 

Stuck in traffic and not moving and they still expect you to get to your client, instead of getting someone else to cover the call. So running behind the rest of the day. Which means you are out of the house for 8 hours but only get paid for 5. 

No double time for bank holidays. 
Charge clients a lot of money and the workers barely see it. Terrible wages. 

The office didn’t care for our safely or us in general.  Terrible place to work for. 

  


I was excited to start a new career offices based after providing care on the road with the ambulance service. It was going really well at first in my new role as care coordinator in the Bristol franchise. After a couple of weeks I learnt why they cannot keep their staff for longer than a few weeks. The care they provide is poor, the staff in office and on field are poorly treated. A lot of corners are cut in regards to compliance. It became clear that this franchise is just about making money and not being able to provide good care to the clients. As a coordinator more and more tasks were being assigned to me that I just couldn't keep on top of. I couldn't do right from wrong. The staff were expected to move heaven and earth for the company and boundaries were not respected and consistently undermined. I do not agree with the way the franchise is ran and the lack of team work and support and the amount of complaints that the company gets on a daily basis from staff and clients that are avoidable and do not get sorted. I decided to regretfully quit on the spot after being reduced to tears for a second time after being spoken to like a child with no respect and told I wasn't doing a good job despite the previous week I was told the opposite. I would advise that anyone looking for a care provider for their family to seek another company as this is not a good one. I would advise that anyone wanting to work for a care provider to seek another company as there is plenty of better ones out there.
