I was made redundant so thought I would try something that I thought would be worthwhile.

The 7 weeks training is fantastic! Then when you go inside if you can manage to get security clearance you realise that all the training is bulls hit! 

Whilst you are in there you can't leave, you have no contact with the outside world and you can't even take a lunch or anything at all in to eat with you. During your shift you do not get a break; you are with the trainees constantly for the duration of your shift. You have to eat in the dining hall with them, if they are permitted to mix with others, otherwise you get dire food in a polystyrene box to eat on unit.

The education portion of their day is a joke and the work they are given is an insult. Each trainee is given the same work regardless of age or ability. This causes them to misbehave and be disruptive. The teachers don't really teach and they get to mark you on your performance during their classes.

Whilst beING disruptive they will take the opportunity to wind you up as much as is humanly possible. This includes physical attacks.  You are expected to brush off the majority of this kind of behaviour.

Whilst on unit you are meant to carry out key works and other programmes with the trainees. These are also a joke as the kids aren't interested and the staff just fill them in.

All the kids are wannabee gangsters and act up so they aren't seen as victims by fellow trainees.

Within my first week of being live on unit I was assaulted whilst preventing an assault from one trainee to another. I ended up restraining my attacker by myself whilst a more senior member of staff stood and did nothing.

Following a second assault by the same trainee after he refused to get ready for education I was removed from that unit as he had threatened to stab me!

Nothing happened to that trainee as he had nothing left that they could take from him as a punishment.

The place was badly run and does the kids no favours. By the time I left I had still not been issued with all the uniform and kit I was supposed to have.

Once it appeared on BBC panorama programme they were unable to admit any new inmates. This aired over a month ago and the place is at less than half capacity still.

G4s are currently in the process of selling the contract to run these centres.

 Wouldn't go back for any amount of money!

Worked for this company for five years, but really it's a mixture of all different companies and they have "business units" which are essentially different businesses working under the G4S umbrella, having moved between some of these, they were all totally different.

You could tell the difference between Group 4 and Securicor managers, those were the two companies that merged to create G4S and the Group 4 managers were good while Securicor managers just didn't really care.

As well as gaining contracts mostly through acquisitions, they haemorrhage a lot of big contracts at the same time, Morrisons supermarkets was lost, their contract with RBS was scaled down a lot, small contracts were lost that they had with housing associations, and they get a lot of temporary contracts. I mention that their contract gains are usually from buying out small companies because it's important to stress that it's not organic growth, it's not positive because they are growing because of their deep pockets and not because they are any good.

When I started I was given a 42.5 hours per week contract but they attempted more than once to get that off me, first by offering me a nice new job but if I'd taken it then I'd have to sign a new contract and throw away all previous service, and start all over again. (they thought I was stupid) Then I got a redundancy notice, and had to telephone and email different business units to save myself. I did find something but it was terrible and I didn't last much longer.

Some departments were OK to work in and others were horrible, such as the retail department was full of bullies and I'm really glad they don't have Morrisons any more because nobody was bothered when I got whacked on one of those stores.

Uniform was shoddy, one guys pants ripped down the backside while he was on duty and sometimes there were problems getting new uniforms which were needed regularly as they fell to bits so quickly.

Pay rates were low to mediocre but never good.

My experience working at Antrim area  Hospital under G4S management has been nothing short of appalling. The working conditions and management practices are deplorable, and the disregard for both staff and patients is deeply concerning.

Firstly, G4S expects staff to work alone in a hospital that accommodates thousands of staff members, patients, and visitors daily. This is not only unsafe but also entirely unreasonable given the potential challenges and emergencies that can arise in such a high-pressure environment.

The training provided is woefully inadequate, leaving employees unprepared for the demands of the role. Despite this, staff are often expected to perform tasks—such as restraining patients—that are outside their training and job remit, with no clear guidelines or support. This lack of clarity and accountability is reckless and puts everyone involved at risk.

The pay is equally unacceptable, failing to reflect the unsociable hours and the intense nature of the job. To make matters worse, there are no provisions for staff accommodation or rest areas, which only exacerbates the stress and exhaustion of the role.

The hospital management is equally culpable, showing a shocking lack of compassion and accountability. Their approach is to ignore issues or play the “devil’s advocate,” refusing to address legitimate concerns raised by staff. Employees are frequently removed from the site for arbitrary reasons, often to suit the hospital’s convenience rather than addressing actual issues.

G4S and the hospital’s management operate in a culture of denial, pretending that ongoing problems don’t exist. Despite investigations by external authorities, these issues are repeatedly swept under the rug.

This situation is both unsustainable and unethical. Staff and patients deserve better than the blatant mismanagement and neglect exhibited by both G4S and Antrim area hospital

Can start from 0500 to 1530 and finish at any hour the management dont really care as long as the work is finished.
Dont expect to find out what time you are in the next day as nobody in the office can tell you as they dont know or just dont care.
I have learned that if i could go back in time i would never have applied to work for G4s or believe their training robots in Coventry who spout from the G4s training bible like it is Gods own law, it is utter bile and does not prepare you at all for the many challenges that lay ahead.
There really is not enough space on here to describe the management or complete lack of it, all apart from one Mc  are complete bluffers who lie and deceive their way through everyday bullying staff who they wouldnt give a second glance too unless wanting something from them or to make themselves feel powerful in their little shallow lives.
My co-workers were mostly ex forces and great lads who were just suffering the same nightmare as myself trundling from one day to the next not knowing what time they were in. There is also others who love the bones of the place and obviously escaped from some mental institute and were taken in.
The hardest part of the job is containing the pure frustration you feel everyday walking through that soulless pit of an office and god help you if you need to take a holiday without giving them 18 months notice and a slip from God himself.
Contracted 39 hours but on rosta for 60+ without any thought to staffs families or leisure time.
The most enjoyable part of the day is walking through that same soulless empty office on your way home, what time that is, is anybodys guess but like i mentioned before nobody cares.
The creeking of that iron spinning gate is like angels playing harps from heaven above.
Lastily the Christmas bonus sums it up..a £5 gift voucher from Asda.

Because of my passion regarding travel along with my passion for shipping the position gives me the ability to combine both.

A typical day would start anywhere between 6 am and 8 am, once I have arrived at work it more or less starts straight away with the disembarkation of the passengers, there may be questions that need answering or advice given to those who require it and generally making sure as part of a team that the whole process runs smoothly and quickly.
Check in opens about 10.30 so arriving passengers have to be handled and there needs taken care off.

Embarkation starts about 12 pm midday and this is also the start of the main check in time where an endless stream of passengers are taken care of and dealt with accordingly prior to boarding the ship.

The whole check in procedure runs up to approximately an hour before the ship sails which is usually between 4.30 and 5.00 pm.

The management are very pro active and any circumstances that may need there assistance are always dealt with in a very professional manner.

My co workers are some of the best I have ever worked with and are totally professional not only at there job but are also very experienced and show a great attitude towards the company.

My hardest part of the job is when there is a late check in for what ever reason and passengers arrive wanting to know what the situation is, tempers sometimes fly and I have to be totally professional at all times without causing any situation that may arise because of it.

My most enjoyable part of the job is working in a busy passenger terminal environment and all the pros and cons that go with that. I also have had the fantastic opportunity to meet and also chat to several members of the Royal Family as well as major celebrities from film and TV.

I'm going to start off by saying how ridiculous the requirements are for each role, which are in no way reflected in the salary. A basic Hr admin job pays £17,077 a year on a 40h base contract. This comes up to exactly minimum wage which is just over £8.20
They expect you to have:

Appreciation of the requirements around working with personal and sensitive information

This is beyond absurd for the money being offered. No one in their right mind would go for a job like this having all the above qualifications as there are tons of better paid jobs around. 

***For any one from G4S reading this review, please reconsider lowering your expectations OR increasing the salary because right now its an absolute joke what you guys are doing.***

Unbelieavle behaviours and attitude towards emploees by their Security Managers. Since when it's lawful to threat an employee with a loss of their jobs, if they don't do as they told to? Since when it's lawful to prevent an employee from getting rightfully accepted position within the company? Since when it's lawful to promote inequality by giving some offers pay rise and not for some others?
Have you ever applied for a job, then called for interview, you are then advised you were successful and followed by contract and start date confirmed? Sounds great right, but two days before your start date you are told they can no longer take on you board due to unexpected circumstanses? This manager has his brother working there and helping only his own country man to get shifts and contracts to work at good rate sites; i believe he is taking bribes from them!  
This manager needs to be taken to deciplinary and apologies to members of staff he has wronged! It's not only me but there are dozens I have meet stating the same thing! Shame on you!
HR is totally useless. When you have a manager like this managing high profile assignments with such a attitute towards the members of staff you think clients of yours will renew the contract? You have lost a few massive contracts because of this guy and he has been reported multiple times for the same behaviour and attitute towards the staff yet you decided to defend this person. Shame on you as yet he is still remaining to work as a manager still unable to ackowledge and let hi get away with his unacceptable behaviour. 

As they say what goes around comes around "KARMA".

Normally, I would state "dependent on which department you work for, so-and-so can be fine to work for". I cannot do this for this company.

They do not care about their staff, and the ones who have high up management positions have only got there due to longevity, brown-nosing, and crushing others in their path.

The pay is laughable, and a lot of people working on the same department, at the same level, are not paid in the same wage bracket - leaving huge gaps which previous managers have had staff jumping through further flamed hoops to get.
Managers attempt to use passive aggressive tactics to guilt you into working extra hours for nothing.

The employment turnover is insane. This isn't just in the temporary staffing positions, where people walk out every single day, but it is in permanent staffing areas as well. They do not hire replacements quickly if at all, yet promise their customers the same level of experience as previously given (which is still poor).

Bid and sales teams lie to customers to get their contracts without thinking about the logistics of the deal they're making, which is adding pressure to all departments when the contract is won, and produces devastating results where the customers are continuously let down, and the staff are blamed for it (with bid and sales team nowhere in sight).

Field staff are also expected to be able to work miracles to fix issues which stem from internal system faults, and higher management aren't interested in the reasons why they can't do this,

Basically, if you want to work somewhere where they like to ignore the real issues and bury their heads in the sand, you'll want to look after ostriches.

In fact, you'd probably get more support (and far better pay) from them.

A typical day at work in police custody would involve booking in detainees and then searching them for evidence or weapons etc. and then logging their property and storing it safely. We would provide them with 3 meals a day and ensure their continued welfare whilst in custody. At numerous times a day you would be required to respond to alarms that may require a detainee to be restrained from causing harm to themselves or another, or simply to answer a request that they may have. We would also throughout the day take finger prints, footwear, DNA and undertake drugs tests before they left custody.
I learned to deal with people from various walks of life and all with differing needs. The biggest thing I learned was to resolve problems and issues by talking to people and being able to 'bring people down' when they were bring violent, aggressive or abusive.
I worked as part of a close knit team that would look out for each other and help each other get through some long and tough shifts that could be very stressful and demanding.
The hardest part of the job for me was to see people in custody who where having a hard time in life and need just that little bit of help to get them back on their feet. I would do what I could for them whilst they were in our care so that it was as stress free for them and so that it could may be give them encouragement to go out and move on. The most enjoyable part of the job was being a part of a close knit team and being able to rely on your colleagues.
The management was approachable and would regularly be around to see how we were and help out on occasion.

Typical day at work- 

On site for 630 Starting at 7 and finsh time of 7 or 8, mainly leads to finishing alot later. Yes you do get toil but can never take it as there is staff leaving in droves.Anxiety through the roof all day, expect the unexpected and when it hits the fan ( which it will ) don't expect alot of assistance due to staff shortages. Then it's more paperwork to go with the impossible task of the job itself. 

What I believe I learned - 

I learnt that you will not make a difference even if you wanted to. Was told on training " You do not wear a cape,  you can't rehabilitate someone who doesn't want to be rehabilitated "  That was a positive start.

Management - 

Who are they ? And where are they ?
Mostly been pushed up the ladder so quickly because staff keep leaving. Never see them unless an incident occurs. When you do see them they have such an ego trip.

supported. You do your training and then your on your own.
Your mental health will suffer and you will get no support when it does. You get  an injury at work or a mental health issue ( which you will ) all you have is a manager you have never met pushing you too return or telling you over the phone " Maybe this job isn't for you " 

Hardest part of the Job - 

Not knowing who your working with day to day, when you are finishing or where you are working due to being deployed elsewhere in the prison.

The most enjoyable part of the job - 

When you have a day that has no issues.
