working for GAP is a great company to work for, on a typical day at work there are always different challenges to face from promotions to re-merchandising. we have daily goals to achieve especially focusing on KPIS. 
I have learnt a great deal from working with gap, I started with the company as a sale associate having never worked in clothes retail. having worked for gap for the past 5 years I have gained so much and had the opportunity to have some great training programmes which at current I am taking part in our style your success programme which is a self development programme and its great as it really helps me to learn new and develop old skills and knowledge. 

as like many retail management positions there are challenges you face every day from performance issues to sickness management and employee conflict which I have to deal with on a daily basis. I have had great support from the management I have worked alongside and always have a great connection with the teams I have worked with. I do believe that as management team you need to be strong and stick together to keep a healthily balance in the work place, through regular check ins and management meetings and great communication. I have also had a great relationship with the senior leaders within the company. 

with in the 5 years of working with GAP  I have been lucky to have worked with a lot of different character and have found some life long friends through my time at gap. I'm a very easy going person and get along with everyone I meet. 

the hardest part of the job currently is the layout of my store due to it being two separate builds but one store so hard to keep eyes on what is going on in both store all the time. As I have worked in a few different locations I have found it extremely hard to find and hire key talent in certain areas. one of the biggest challenges I feel any manager faces is getting the team on your side especially if your a new store manager, but I do believe there are pros and cons to this.  

the most enjoyable part of my job is working with the customer I thrive on customer service and pleasing the customer to which I have made some life time customers in the stores I have worked in and also my present location. I also really enjoy working as a team as I believe if you do not have team work you will not have a healthy happy environment. As a district I have a great support line from my fellow store managers.

although I have loved working for gap for the past 5 years I feel it is time to move on to something different.

A typical working day at Gap Inc is both satisfying and diverse, therefore there is no real 'typical' label to give the company.
Customer Service is a huge passion of each individual employee and this is refelcted in the brand status throughout the world.
Management will approach each of their own stores in their own way but with the underlying motto of the late company founder Don Fisher fresh in their minds each morning: "Do what you love, love what you do." This is apparent in each Gap store and I am sure you will be hard-pushed to find any retail store, both high street and outlet, that is so committed to customer service and a passion for the brand.

I have learnt so much working at Gap and all of the skills I have gained are transferable to all workplaces. The company is fantastic for training staff and most of the employees are loyal staff from years gone by. The opportunity to progress is apparent in each staff member from those starting on an 8 hour stock room contract up to the very highest European position the company can offer.

Each day is very different, there's always something to do but working on the 'front line' as it be can be challenging, especially for new employees. Approaching customers may be daunting but it is with this skill that I have been able to build up confidence and social ability to speak to just about anyone in my daily life - a very useful and important skill to have.

I love socialising with the customers on the shop floor, helping them with the products and serving them to the best of my ability. I'm a 'social butterfly' so meeting new people and networking comes easily to me but for those more shy (I used to be like you, honest!) the job builds your confidence up and you realise that there is no job security quite like with the Gap Inc brand. Do what you love and LOVE what you do.

I have joined the HR Shared Services team on a secondment to support the function during the implementation of a regional payroll change programme. The implementation project was to last throughout 2013 and would see the existing payroll solutions in each of the 4 European countries merge to a single pan-European solution with one outsourced provider.
My role was to support the every day administrative activities of the team whilst the experienced team members were re-deployed on project related activities. It was a critical support role.
Key Duties:
 Handle employee and manager queries on employee data and pay via email and telephone.
 Input data into HR and Payroll Systems ensuring data integrity and accuracy and preparing for payroll processing
 Preparing and issuing employment contracts and associated paperwork for new hires as well as processing letters and documents related to contractual changes and terminations
 Manage data conversions in excel, and preparing financial information
 Reviewing Store and Distribution Centre time and attendance data and chasing for late submissions with managers
 Supporting daily administrative activities such as reviewing of audit reports, preparing payslips, completing references, completing requests for information and filing documents.

Overall I would say I enjoyed my time at Gap Outlet, I did receive support from management when going through tough times, I had the opportunity to learn lots and training is given(when asked for). The reasons I would say I left gap would include: customers - a lot of policy’s we had at gap did not have the customers best interest at heart, which lead to me having more then few, explosive, uncomfortable and unresolved situations with customers(many of which I was not paid enough to deal with) being sworn at and threatened by unhappy customers due to poor policies in place. One of the other reason would be understaffing, I worked in a large sized store, and many times would be left the only person on the shop floor, leaving me vulnerable and unable to give the  customer the experience they deserve; one example being left by my manger going on their break( the next person was due in, in 20 minutes time) while myself being the only person trained to be on the tills and only one other person in the shop floor, mix this with 15+ customers in the que all with 5+ items each as we had a major event on. Too many poorly scheduled days resulting in unnecessary high stress levels for all levels of staff. 

A very past faced environment, always something else to be done, if you don’t like your days to drag and can put up with the abuse from the regular gap customer, apply. Be prepared to be very adaptable, able to think fast in the moment, be a problem solver and effective communicator. (This is from my experience as a Senior operations associate)

Despite the flux in hours week to week the schedule would be fairly flexible to the needs to the employee, apart from weekend availability which is unfortunately a standard requirement. People are of the younger generation ranging, generally, from about 18 to 28. The atmosphere is relaxed and at times very enjoyable (with the exception of Christmas!) I've really developed my social skills at GAP and as a result over the past 8 years, part time and full time, I've acquired many close friends from all corners of the globe. Management have always been approachable and when they can, made the effort to integrate with staff on a personal level developing a happy atmosphere. Depending on the shift time, a day could either start with processing stock delivery and replenishing the shop floor or if the shop is already open, immediate inclusion on tills or helping customers. Once the shop is closed the store would be 'closed out' ie tidying the place, cashing up and if needed setting up for the delivery scheduled the next morning. The varying shift times could be either a blessing or a curse with some weeks requiring a member of staff to work until Midnight, however these shifts would generally be scheduled for fixture moves and placing new product which was one of the more enjoyable aspects of the job as you would be encouraged to use your creative side.

Working for the company i have done for ten years I have learned about managment, coaching and importance of dedication and hard work to get maximum results. I Began as a sales associate as previous i was a floor manager for 7 years at McDonalds. I worked my way up from a specialist, to visual merhandiser combined with key holder skills. It has been a challanging ten years in the company in which my passion for visual merchandising, managment, sales within retail has excelled.
My co workers are the most hard working individuals to date, most have moved on and up to persure their careers, all possessing the key elements of teamwork.
I enjoy my role because i get to be creative, innovotive, passionate and all that i do is clearly shown in my work. there are challanges involved in my job, which includes the organisation side of the role, the very keen interest in what i do and the high pressure it can entail from all aspects of co workers and managment. another aspect which is hard to deal with in my job is the financial side, it is hard sometimes to comprehend why my role does not get financially rewarded as it should.

The management are all different depending who they as indivduals, some are passionate and some are not, some enjoy their role and others do not.

Working at Gap has given me plenty of confidence to believe I can experience any other type of job role within the future. I love working with my team and interacting with all types of customers, however I am at the stage where I am wanting to work within administration. This is something I have wanted to do since leaving college four years ago, as we studied the topic. 

I have learnt many positive areas working here, for example.

- How to offering 100% customer service
- How to deal with complaints in a professional manner
- How to support my managers and other members of staff
- How to answer phone calls in also a professional manner
- How to answer all enquries and questions 
- How to teach others
- How to work under pressure
- How to impress customers to enjoy their stay who become a regular.

The people who I work with make the job enjoying and motivating. I believe to have a good work place it's very important to have this as it gives out a better environment for everyone including the customers.

The hard areas of working within retail is working when it's busy for example over Christmas periods, weekends when weather isn't great, working when sales and promotions are on. The reason for this is usually to do with lack of staff which makes the problem occur.

A typical day at GAP would consist of opening up the shop, checking work emails, checking the safe, awaiting on the delivery of stock to be processed, await on staff arriving for their shifts. Also to open the shop up for customers. daily duties on the shop floor, managing my team to process the stock for our department. put all out on the shop floor and manage the fitting rooms for customers. End of a day at GAP would consist of cashing up, making sure everything is tidy - supervising staff to there task and making sure my to do list for the day has 90% been completed.

I started as a sales assistant on a 12 hour contract, worked up to a supervisor on a 30 hour contract. But no more room for going any higher in my role - I am keen to grow within what I can do within my work ethics. I want to learn and want to climb higher in my career.

My team were the best team I could have asked for, respect was a big thing. If you haven't got respect for colleagues then there is no way of getting along and working on a daily basis.

The hardest part of the job was making sure we hit our stores KPI's - making sure my team were aware of our targets.

The most enjoyable part was the colleagues, best group of people I have met so far. No word of a lie.

A typical day at work for me would be opening and processing new stock, reviewing the stores visual merchandising ensuring it reflects any and all in-store promotions, placing new flow and new collection layouts.
I learnt a great deal of invaluable Merchandising and Managerial roles which have will help me in my professional and personal progression.
The company's management was as a whole shaky and sometimes it was unclear what exactly certain roles entailed but I managed to create an understanding with my in-store management team.
I had an excellent relationship with all my co-workers which helped with the working environment, I pride myself on being friendly and outgoing, building relationships with all team members even if I didn't work with them.
The hardest part of the job was the restrictions set by the quality of fixtures in my particular branch of the company, I feel it limited what i could produce as a Visual Merchandiser and may even have affected sales.
The most enjoyable part of my job was meeting the Head Office Visual Merchandising team, attending VM conferences and seasonal new flow book planning days.


Gap always puts the customer first, they make sure every customer that walks in has a easy and enjoyable experience, working here I always learned something new everyday, I loved to share my knowledge to the whole team and managers. It has been a pleasure to have been part of a family like company. I find that a typical day at work involves developing your talent and skills, making customers happy with the best products, always emphasising for excellence to produce positive feedback. Starting a new day with gap is like a new adventure, very busy, never a dull moment, very fast paced and energetic, everyone was always talking to one another and working so hard collectively, the team is so great on customer service and I learned a lot within Flagship Store. Employees are very helpful and knowledgeable at the store, they all take pride in maintaining and keeping it clean, they not just co-workers they act like they are friends and family, the fact that I have had the honour to work with this company, it is so inspiring, I will never forget the passion and the love they have for the brand.
