If you are someone who is fairly fit, mentally strong and motivated then you can make 30-50k a year if you get friendly with management and ask for plenty of work, but prepare to work your body and mind at a fast pace all day.  Pay is usually weekly.

Hourly rates can vary from £15 for beginners to £50 for experienced drivers (6 months in). Expect to spend up to an hour per day sorting your parcels (UNPAID). i would say minimum working day is 3 hours and maximum of 8. 

There is virtually no training so find someone fast and ask them for advice, they will happily help as they weren't trained either, the key is to understand you are aiming for a parcel every minute or two and get creative to achieve this. Most drivers are down to earth and friendly but you obviously work alone.

Highest earners have a set route with a high parcel rate (rural areas) and know their route to perfection delivering 40-60 parcels per hour 6/7 Days a week. A good pace is 30 parcels per hour which is very achievable within a month or two. 

There are benefits to using both cars and vans you just have to play to your vehicle's strengths. Some of the highest earners have large vans, some have tiny cars, nothing too valuable but music and A/C are essentials!

Go into this job with an exit plan or you will be trapped by the high earnings in a very boring and physical job which requires a high level of focus at all times. 

From my experience the first few months can be very rewarding as it's like a game that pays more every day you get better. Towards the end of my job life i was making £100-£150 per day in 3-5 hours reliably BUT I also didn't want to get up for work as you have to treat Boohoo and PrettyLittleThing parcels like your boss and it's physically and mentally draining.

Overall perfect for saving up / paying off debts / stay at home parents / second income / Young people / Start-up business owners / Uni students / poor english speakers. 

Terrible long term career, Stressful as full time work, can be tough on your vehicle, managers don't have time to help you properly so high staff turn around.

Youve gotta be very lonely person to do this job its an absolutly awful place to work over worked ,draining and thats not from hard work its from being bord out your mind while your stuck in a trailer off loading thoustands of parcels for hours and hours to the point you wonna walk out your that fed up,i was hoping the parcels crushed me so i could escape this nightmear and that was just in bound.....out bound well what can i say if you recive your 50" tv and it broken then yes its been thrown on the trailer at full speed absolutly shocking things ive seen on my 4 days that i lasted befor i had to leave due to wanting to end it all....the parcels are not cared for at all throw kicked dropped just so they can hit there parcel rate thats 1000 per hour doable if your a robot and on cokane.....just shocking i will never use hermes for my parcels after what ive witnessed....coffee tasted and looked like cat wee Toilets were lways blocked (cleaner needs sacking) (warrington) ive done some pritty rubbish jobs in my time but this was the cherry on the cake just the worst unless you can compleatly switch off from life,the world and your job go for it ,if not avoid youll last a week and want to throw yourself of the nearest bridge managers pester you on ur second day thst u need to go faster as ur not doing enough i was doing over 500 parcels an hour my second day was told it wasent good enought very repetitive job.
Dont get me started on the pay

Hermes are users of people and will rip you off. First of all you’ll be employed as self employed which means you will pay for everything and you won’t get holiday pay, sickness pay or maternity leave. If you risk taking a day off in an emergency, you risk your round being taken off you giving you no income and you’ll find you’ll have very little employment rights.  
They say as self employed you can deliver in your own time as long as parcels are delivered by the due day, but their managers will be constantly ringing you. 

They will often pay you for smaller parcels when you can see it’s obviously a large parcel which you should get more money for, or heavy parcels regardless of size. You can raise a dispute but realistically you have no time to measure the size or have the facility to weigh the parcel then go on line to raise a dispute. Also they pay unfairly, as some drivers get more money for delivering the same size parcels as someone else. This is because they try and pay you as minimal as possible, going through a high turnover of staff. 

If your a desperate, gullible person who wants to work for an unorganised company that constantly rip you off on paying you for delivered parcels, that expect you to soak up all the cost incurred on your vehicle and cell phone. That expect you to load and sort your parcels outside in the pouring rain as the base has no loading bays or shelters, then this is the job for you!!

since i started at Hermes they've reduced the parcel rates and any rounds with a decent amount of parcels on they cut in half. If you ring a manager for advice they never answer the phone but if they want you to do some extra work for them their phone soon springs into life. If you return to the depot for whatever reason you're supposed to get £4 for it...you never get the £4 and a manager will often ring asking if you could pull them out of the mire & they'll give you an extra £20 for doing so...you never get the £20. To make an ok living from Hermes/Evri you need to be doing 180 parcels a day. The vans are often late meaning you don't start delivering til midday and it's a 6 day a week job. If you want a day off they want a month's notice & Evri are supposed to find cover which they never do so the day after ur day off you'll have 2 days worth of parcels to deliver. DO NOT believe these Evri ads saying its £500-700 a week coz it is utter rhubarb. and don't forget out of ur wages you need fuel (£££'s), insurance, tax and upkeep on ur van/car...oh and they don't have a customer service line so if the customer is angry their parcels gone missing it'll be down to you to explain why...I had around 30 customers Numbers in my phone without any support or thanks from Evri/Hermes for being their customer service rep as well as driver.

Poor Management: Communication from management was lacking. I often felt unsupported and received little guidance on resolving issues that arose during my deliveries.

Unrealistic Expectations: The workload was overwhelming, with an excessive number of deliveries expected each day. This made it nearly impossible to maintain a good level of service or care for the packages.

Inadequate Training: The training provided was minimal and did not adequately prepare me for the challenges of the job. Many new hires, including myself, felt lost and unprepared.

Vehicle Issues: The vehicles provided for deliveries were often in poor condition, which made the job more difficult and stressful. Breakdowns were common and significantly affected my delivery times.

Lack of Benefits: There were very few benefits offered, which was disappointing. As a full-time courier, I expected at least some basic perks, but the compensation did not reflect the hard work put in.

Overall, I would not recommend working as a courier for Hermes. The job can be physically demanding and stressful, and the lack of support and recognition made it a frustrating experience.

There is no best part not a good company to work for to them you are just a number if you have a problem whilst out can’t get hold of anyone all they are  worry about it to get parcels out you could get up to 300 parcels in one day sometimes you get to depot for collection and lorry always late don’t leave there sometimes until 11.o’clock don’t get home until if you lucky  21.00hrs

Everything is stressful with this company not a good company to work for  you are just a number if you have a problem trying to get home of someone is impossible

Not very good on a rainy day parcels are getting you are outside in the rain get wet loading parcels in your van by time you finish you are wet as well as the deliveries

Thre is no typical day every day is the same late lorry   on rainy days you’re wet parcels wet  before you start your day

Awful. 1980s working conditions & pay. Worst thing I've ever put my name to in my 39YR working life. I'm on less money (net of expenses) than in 2005 🤷

Lack of leadership, fairness, human interaction, support, understanding

HSE would have a field day at the sub-depots.
No accident report book, no first aid kit, no charging equipt for flat batteries etc. 1 roll of sellotape between 100 couriers. The company conceal the products we take out. Flammable liquids/hazardous chemicals. We're cheated on parcel weights too

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
For a self employed light courier you're made to work 6 days (Mon-Sat)
Then , for a supposed light-courier were having to finance larger vehicles at our own expense (together with fuel & insurance) to cope with their expectation of delivering larger/heavier parcels as the norm.

DONT DO IT !!!!!! I worked at the Nottingham depot and i'm sure anyone who works or who has worked there,.. minus anyone who's higher up getting paid to do nothing but to watch us work,.. will say its awful. 
It is not worth the stress and your mental health.. can't even say your time and money because if you work there you haven't got any time to do anything outside of work and the money is below average for what they put you through!! 
The managers and team leaders are all on massive power trips!! Most of them have NO management skills and talk to you like you're worthless. Overtime is EXPECTED of you, they don't even ask you if you can stay past your hours, they just expect you to stay. THEY NEVER PAY YOU CORRECTLY!!!! Over the 7/8 months i worked there i never got paid right, every month, half of my colleagues wouldn't have been paid right either, always missing a few hundred pounds, some never even got paid at all. The woman that works in payroll needs investigating!!!! 
Honestly, this company is a joke and i would highly recommend anyone to stay clear of this place as you'd be a lot better off not having a job than working here. 

The hardest job you'll ever do. I came crawling out of the warehouse most days. Freezing cold and dark in the back of a loose filled lorry. Supervisors have targets to meet and some shout at people to meet these, some slope of smoking while at the same time frown at you for going to the toilet, and they demand you're back bang on time after tea break, even though it can be a 10 minute round trip from the far end of the warehouse. A couple of supervisors were ok. Some have there favourites. Some are complete helmets. Security  Looks like a criminal and treats everyone as pure scum. Some of the longer term staff there are nice and friendly and helpful. If i was deaperate for work I'd go back as a last resort. Some characters there. Its disappointing that the staff are unvalued there. It could be so much better but this all comes from greed at the top. Water machines were always broken when i was there. At times it can be total chaos as so many targets have to be made.

The best is you can plan the deliveries round your personal life, as long as the parcels are picked up before 11.30 and delivered by 9 you can set times to suit you, hard to start with as you dont know your route, but if you get a permanent route you can get quite quick at it. amount of parcels vary due to time of year, dont get paid alot per parcel though so need a few to make it worth doing,  you have to use own petrol and vehicle, and to be properly insured you need Hire and Reward which is quite expensive, they do offer a top up insurance but alot of insurance companies wont accept it as its only third party,  so if anything happened to your own car it doesnt get sorted. best checking woth insurance companies before committing how much it will be and if they accept the top up and if you crashed would it cover your vehicle.
