From working here in the past to now changing jobs I can say I am much happier in my new workplace. 
I find it baffling that my manager could not do my job role at the time and to top it off he\she was rude and  would brag it to our face, not the most professional manner to speak to your team. There was very little room for progression and I got the feeling if you were good at your job your not moving position. 
On a positive note however the canteen was very good (a little pricey) but in terms of how I got treated there to say the least I am glad I walked out never to return. 
Its very clear this company just needs  “Workers to work” just like any other company I felt like  a number on a spreadsheet ticking my time away till the end of the shift.
From a young studious individual who had high hopes and expected more from this company, I was not impressed by the job, how jIgot treated, a lack of care, clear sense of favouritism, only way to go to higher positions seemed to be through nepotism and the idea that we are all equal was not present at all, a clear hierarchy can be felt there. 

All in all I had a bad experience working here, I’m not saying this is the same experience  for everyone but in my honest opinion from what I’ve learned, not all company's with a good face have a good body.

Worked several years in automotive. Good team leaders who basically run the show as the shift manager & group leader are clueless. The shift manager & group leader only interested in promoting you if you're their friend. I.e you play golf with them or go out drinking with them. They promise jobs to such team members who are not worthy of the role & interviews are done with job promises. A really poor culture. The group leader is useless but loves to take credit of others work. Never have I worked in a place where the management is so toxic. They employ people with no relevant experience. The team leaders should be interviewing as they know what is required per team. Hence there is a massive turnover of staff, low morale & unrest. No standardised pay structure. Trade Unions are not permitted. The shift patterns are dreadful & tiring. Ok if live local but many employees live some distance away eg Portsmouth. If quiet they send you home for a week but expect you to make the hours up. Some people do but many if friends with the group leader get away with not paying it back. Too many inconsistencies. Nothing is done fairly at McLaren. Glad I got out when I did as I heard it's even worse now

Worst job I’ve had and I’ve served in Afghanistan and I preferred that. Reasons being it has everything from dodgy engineers to corrupt management promoting their mates to group leaders just because they will be yes people and tick a certain 21st century box. Team leaders are shocking and group leaders are even worse. They walk around the place like they own it and dish the dirty work on team leaders. Most of them are inept. Higher managers are arrogant, ignorant and disrespectful to operators like something they have stepped in. People that have been here a long time are in certain circles and do what they want but new people not in the circle are constantly watched and observed and penalised. It is a very very clicky place.  You are timed to the second on breaks and toilet breaks. They don’t actually design or make anything they just pay other companies to do and claim it for themselves. There is nothing exciting about it the job is boring and not well paid. Management are robots and you don’t need any manufacturing knowledge to work here they set anyone on even all your family if they want a job it’s no problem regardless of experience. I left and didn’t give any notice because I could take being spoke to like a child anymore. 

Looking from the outside in and when you get the job, you think you've made it, hit the big leagues. I couldn't have been more wrong.

The management was a joke, no clear leadership or direction, too many opinions and not enough decisions. They seem to hire the "engineers" that asked for the lowest salary and not based on experience or qualifications. The only place I've ever worked that most of the technicians were more experienced in the relevant field of engineering and more qualified than most of the "engineers".


We were told working in the Sheffield factory that we would never get the benefits or bonuses that the staff in woking got.

During your interview process they will sell you the big dream and plan of McLaren and that you can be a part of the journey when in fact unless you're best mates with the management or kissing their behinds you'll find it very difficult to progress, especially in the Sheffield factory.  If you are considering a job here, you will only ever be asked to do the same thing day in, day out. You are just a number to the management.

I have to admit in my time there I did make some genuinely good friends who made the time there more bearable, that is the only positive I have to say about the place.

Since working at McLaren within the security department, I speak on behalf of most of the security team by saying the management is awful. 
You are seen as a “bum on seat”, you are not cared about or appreciated by the head of security & two assistant security managers who all have been stuck in their old ways for the last 17 years and nothing has changed. 

They are not open to changes or ideas presented by new staff & are shut down immediately. They are talked to incredibly condescending by the security manager. 
If you make any minor mistake you are talked down to as if you are a child. 

Majority of the time the management are either smoking outside the premises or giving pointless lectures to their security staff who are no longer motivated. Because of all this the staff turnover is very high and the pay structure is unequal, forcing people to leave. 

Good luck getting your probation meeting on time or any of your concerns taken seriously. Any issues that you do arise, they will pass over to HR. 

For McLaren’s security team to move forward, it starts from the top and the management needs to go. Simple.

Worst company i've worked for.. so much discrimination and when you do stand up for yourself and have vaild points your gone. 

I point a suggestion in, to change how we did things/process, as I thought it was quicker and proved it to be. My manager didnt like this and a week later I was outed, I was not as if i was a newbie, 2 years months at that same station. But it looks like if you work all week, come in early and leave late your not appreciated, as your then told you "have" to come in on Saturday and if you had plans you have to cancel then as you should have booked it off.

Since I've been there, the restaurant has gone down hill. They use to serve amazing food, now the bacon and sausages are either burnt or raw, don't get me started on the eggs, oh and good luck if you have either the pink chicken or pork. Just prey your in a short distance from the the toilet.

Talking of the toilts. They are great if you want to use one that is covered in excrement or if you like to paddle to it, the locks on the doors are always busted too.  They are cleaned about twice a day and even after that the smell of urine is still there.

During the week i was working at Mclaren automotive, the day would consist of shadowing an employer who would gave me guideness to the tasks which had to be carried out for the rest of the shift. It involved working in various departments and getting a full understanding of the work environment at Mclaren automotive.
I learned how the Mclaren business is run and in general how business require different employers with different skills in various departments to finish complete a task as a team but Also how a hierarchal structure should be in place in a business for a more organised, productive way of working.
The workplace culture changed in accordance to what environment i was in. for example in the first two days, i was working in a open space workshop with cars coming in with small problems that needed to be found and sorted to be sent back to the customer.
The other side of the company in which i worked in was a design and development for new cars to be designed for the future through clay models and computer based work. this environment was more relaxed and quite compared to the others i also worked in.

Probably one of the worst companies I have worked for. 

Don't believe the hype that it's a glamorous place to work because of the cars they make - it is NOT. Terrible working conditions - some people come in to work and don't have a desk to work from and end up spending half their day walking around looking for a desk. Not enough car park spaces and the company won't front the cost of building a new car park.

Senior management and Execs - seriously lacking the basics of leadership. They treat the staff with contempt........staff have to queue for a glass of water, yet the Directors have their own private butlers who bring round coffee and snacks for them. Clear divide between 'us' and 'them'.

Culture - people are definitely not friendly and most of them seem to walk around with a degree of self-importance. McLaren philosophy seems to be to hire foreign workers because they are cheap. These people then seem to spend most of their time chatting near the coffee machines.

Systems & processes - absolutely woeful. Its not surprising that their cars have serious quality issues and are turned away by dealers most of the time.

Canteen - not very tasty and way overpriced.

must say at first I was very excited and grateful that I got a job at McLaren Sheffield. But just after a few weeks I new I made a bad choice and feel stuck. Inside is very messy and not organised well. You make the same part over and over again. And that’s all they want you to do. High up management have favourites on the shop floor and very biased managers. Very unprofessional. There is not a canteen at all just a room with tables chairs and a tap with very expensive vending machine. Some of the people are nice but most managers don’t acknowledge you like you are not even there. I have not been here long but have already been told I won’t progress up the ladder because I don’t have composites experience, just make same part all the time to times and that is it. I got timed also on my toilet breaks. Some jobs that are available have already gone, high levels of favouritism. Managers turning a blind eye to a lot of things taking place. I wouldn't recommend mclaren at all the worse place I have ever worked at they do you for targets that are unachievable when the main two machines that run the factory are both . If your face doesn't fit your out
