I worked for mydentist for a year. It was possibly the worst job I have ever done and I would not recommend it to anybody.

Reception was constantly busy. 
Would typically arrive around 8:30am to get set up for the day. As soon as the phones were turned on at 9am, they would ring constantly for hours. Often be the only person on reception for a couple of hours, struggling to answer phone calls, check the relevant paperwork and files for each dentist (Sometimes 6 a day), ensure reception is tidy, set everything up ready for the day, check diaries, fill gaps etc. Hugely understaffed with only ever a maximum of 2 people on the desk struggling to do an obscene amount of work, whilst being piled with more and more from dentists and management. When there was a gap in the diary, it would be receptions fault and would get it in the neck from dentist/practice manager and have to try and fill it. Patients incredibly abusive due to lack of time/care for them, would often be screamed at down the phone at 9:05 as there were no emergency appointments left, called names etc. Very very frequently got left to deal with patient abuse and complaints alone as PM very rarely intervened and would just come and ask what happened afterwards. 
If a dentist ran over, you would have to sit and wait on reception for them to finish - ie if you're supposed to close practice at 7;30pm, you could sometimes be sat till 8-9pm waiting around, but cannot close up even 5 minutes early even though all dentists had gone home. Would often get 'test' phone calls to make sure somebody was still there.
There was no trust, and management are incredibly patronising and rude, with very little thanks and pile a lot of work up on to reception/nurses while sitting in office doing what appears to be very little. We would often be given dentist holiday to cancel a month in advance, and be expected to fit the patients back in at short notice of which was not often possible and they could often end up waiting weeks and weeks for something that was 'urgent' at the time, but now the dentist wants a day off/holiday, its no longer important.
Any financial discrepancies, no matter how small, reception/nurses would be left to figure out how to sort it by themselves, as PM often came in late and went home early. 
There is an excess of forceful marketing which we are expected to shove down patients throats, even when they've come in for an emergency appointment, pushing expensive private treatments on people, and then ringing them and demanding money if they didn't pay on their very first appointment. Patients were often rude and snappy (most understandable) with reception as we were forced to give them marketing paperwork, and ask for email address/push sales of overpriced toothpaste/toothbrushes.
Several new staff didn't even last 2 weeks, the way they were spoke to by PM and AM, I am not surprised.
Uniform is free- but incredibly uncomfortable and unflattering - too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Most hideous shade of green, with a name tag with your full name on it. Told off for not wearing name tag.
Pay is minimum wage - nowhere near enough to deal with what you get put through every single day. 
Was told I would be trained as a nurse but got nowhere after 9 months. 
Only plus is most of the dentists/nurses were lovely.
All in all, I was the most miserable I've ever been in a job, after receiving no support, and being talked down to and had a go at on a regular basis. Overall, I would not recommend working for this company at all.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Whether you choose to agree with my points or refute my stance, the best part of working in any organisation is the reception you receive from colleagues even before interacting with patients. 

A volatile work station is a recipe for depression, anxiety and eventual death due to emotional and mental stress from appointed demoniac(s) who tag themselves as humanoid species. A hostile work environment breeds depression, anxiety, and severe emotional and mental stress due to toxic individuals posing as colleagues.

Since working in the UK, beyond my MFOdont course mates, the workplace feels like an extension of my home—welcoming, with many colleagues being a breath of fresh air, changing my entire perception of working within the NorthWest region of the UK. It was slightly rough at the start, akin to lions sizing up a new member -just as the pride of lions sizing up another lioness, it was almost like a mini-jungle but with humanoid species, although quickly warmed up to a good number of staff. 

The pay is just there but the infrastructure, is top notch. Patients have gained my trust, perhaps due to my very ebullient disposition and zero-lofty approach to patients, thus, building much stronger amity. The academy is fairly OK and you are sure to finish up your CPDs, as they are constantly on your neck. They challenge you. 

The cons would be the pay rate. Other than the less than appealing pay rate, I think the region within which I am stationed is fairly enterprising and subtly entertaining but with zero tolerance for poor work ethics which aligns well with my ethos.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
he most stressful part of working at the mydentist practice is the poor pay rate, which does not reflect the demanding nature of the job. Additionally, the zero-sick leave policy significantly impacts salary, adding financial stress during illness. Despite the generally positive work environment, a few colleagues exhibit rebellious and uncooperative behavior, further straining the workplace dynamics. These factors collectively contribute to the overall stress experienced in the practice.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture at mydentist are exceptional. The workplace feels like an extension of my home—welcoming and supportive. Many colleagues are a breath of fresh air, bringing positive energy and camaraderie. This inclusive and friendly atmosphere has significantly changed my perception of working in the NorthWest region of the UK, making it a genuinely pleasant and fulfilling experience.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
 Typical day at mydentist involves a mix of patient care and administrative tasks. I start my day by reviewing patient schedules and preparing for appointments. Throughout the day, I provide dental treatments, consultations, and follow-ups, ensuring each patient receives personalised and comprehensive care. 

In between appointments, I update patient records, coordinate with colleagues, and stay informed about the latest industry practices. The environment is dynamic and supportive, fostering professional growth and collaboration.

I feel MyDentist is a great company to work for. I have been in the dental profession for 20+ years and I feel that this is a forward thinking company with benefits for all.I feel pleased to work for a company that takes great pride in its patients and employees. Yes I could get paid more in the job I do, somewhere else, but with this company I get amazing support from my superiors and the head office team, the training programmes and the academy prove to me how much the company cares about wanting to get the best and provide the best for its staff and also to our patients. We are always thinking about what we can do/offer/how to help our patients and provide the best service for them. The company invest's a lot in it's employees and also listens and wants to help us improve, I can honeslty say that you will not find many other companies out there like this one. You can be safe knowing that all legal requirements are being met, the company does everything properly, you can guarantee that absolutely everything is correct and above board. 
I am a practice manager for one of the MyDentist dental practices and I have realised how much the company cares and I truely feel that this company does want to offer the best for its patients and staff. The work is challenging and rewarding. The company has really invested in me with regards to training. Nothing is too much and everything that I get trained on is relevant to me helping me do my job better, I also get the aftercare and support from all the support team. I feel that we are managed well and kept informed of the things that are happening withing the company, the things that we need to do and how to do it. My actual place of work is brilliant, I have a great team of dentists and nurses and receptionist that we all really enjoy coming to work everyday. The hardest part of the job for me, is trying to make sure that everything that needs to be done, in the correct timeframe, is done. There is pressure but I enjoy that, I feel gratified knowing that I have completed my job to a great standard and I feel a great sense of pride working within this company. I feel that there is also so much opportunity at this company to grow that I will stay with MyDentist til the end of my working life but not as a Practice Manager but as something else, honestly, the possibilities in this company is endless.

I have been working for MyDentist as a self-employed Dental Hygienist for more than 3 years. I have previous experience working in both private independent & other cooperate dental practices. I didn’t take the job due to the company’s representation (I had heard good / bad reviews), I took it because it was close to home and I was very impressed with the manager upon my interview. I was supported in my strong view that all hygienist need nurses. 

I took over from a retired, tired hygienist who admitted there was a lot of patient potential. She was right, I’ve used my vast knowledge to set up a successful hygiene protocol with the support of all other clinicians. I held Perio meetings at the start to demonstrate how I work and how we can work as an effective team. The support was amazing. 

Therefore now I’ve gone from 2.5days to 4-5days a week as the hygiene clinic has been a great success. I mostly work in one site but offer my free days to other local practices in my area. It enables me to increase my hours when I need the extra income. 

I’ve had one great manager, replaced with an equally great manager who have great clinical understanding to support me clinically. I constantly review myself to make sure I’m achieving the company’s target in private revenue for hygiene and sundry sales. 

I’ve had very little guidance or checks on my clinical skills, but I think because I’m self motivated neither of things were needed. So you do have to be driven to work your absolute best and eager to work as a team. You need to the best for the patient but also understand you are part of a business that needs to do well too. So don’t be scared by figures. You can easily succeed at both, 

I get full nurse support. As long as it’s justified and within budget I’ve had endless instruments and materials given to me. 

During Covid19, I’ve not been able to work, I’m yet to go back. But I’m fully aware the company is pulling out all the stops to get each practice safe for all their staff to return to work. I feel my job is secure and I’ll be back working hard for them once I’m given the green light. 

I throughly working with my team, the teams do make the mydentist experience great.

 I have worked for My Dentist for 10 years. 
My first impressions when working for My Dentist is it’s a company that looks after its staff and is a place of work where I can progress. 
I can honestly say the company has surpassed my first impressions. My Dentist are a great company to work for. 

Starting as a Trainee Nurse I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect. I was met with mountains of support and an amazing team of staff which helped me at every instance. All training was provided, and with a supportive team around me I was able to achieve my Nursing qualification with no problems at all.

Fast forward 8 years from my Nursing qualification, I am now Head Nurse and have voiced my interest in becoming a Practice Manager. This has been taken on board and I have been shown most aspects of this and feel when the opportunity arises I would be very prepared to do this role and this is down to having a brilliant manager. My Dentist supports progression in every possible way. 

As a Mum with two children I can honestly say you don’t feel like a number but an actual person. My Manager is very supportive and I feel like I have the perfect work life balance. I love coming to work. It is a place I feel supported and listened to. Any queries I have are quickly answered and problems are very quickly resolved. 

We regularly have a ‘Great place to work’ survey’s which asks staff what they enjoy about work and what they would like to improve. I know from my 10 years being here this is actually listened to and in most cases acted on as I have seen many great changes within the company since starting and My Dentist continue to do this. 

I feel very lucky to work with such a great team. Nearly all members of staff which I started with are still here, with some older members passing the 20 year milestone and I feel that is a reflection on the company.  
I would 100% recommend working here to my Friends and Family. 


After working for many years at My Dentist and seeing it at its best and at its worst I left the company mentally exhausted. It used to be a rewarding company to work for with diligent and supportive managers who cared for their staff deeply. Now there’s no room for dignity or respect. Staff is bullied and victimised on a regular basis. Practices are run on minimum stock. You never feel supported, if you voice your opinion management treats you as a threat. Staff is always under pressure, treated unfairly and there’s definitely no equality at a workplace, which again causes lots of friction between colleagues as naturally you feel discriminated. It’s who you are and who you know and never about how hard you work or how much you contribute to the growth of the company. There is no leadership, management participates in gossip and even encourages it to the extend of causing distress amongst the staff. If you try to report it they always find the way to belittle the problem. Dentists are treated equally worthless, they are talked down to, get no support or being listened to. Constantly pushed to do more private, having their performance judged upon how much private they bring to the company rather than ethics or care for the patients. I read all the good reviews that come from the managers and yes I do agree they find the company supportive and encouraging but that is only because they can do NO WRONG. They are allowed to talk to staff with appalling language and intimidate them and they are never held responsible. I would never recommend this company to work for, most definitely never in Derby area. I truly believe the company will suffer in the long run when hard working employees start leaving, which they will do as managers believe they can act with impunity.

Worked at My Dentist for a few yrs now. 
It did have an extremely high turnover of staff, all job roles....nurses, dentists, Reception.

The management was extremely poor.

No policies, everything is at "managers discretion". You are unable to contact HR, it has to be always through your mgr. And then most queries come back saying.... " managers discretion" !

You need to be a VERY strong character to work in this type of industry. As you will encounter some difficult personalities, in particular dentists. Some can be very difficult to work with and try to be very controlling.
Having said that thankfully there are some very lovely ones too who make up for this.

There are no company benefits really to talk of.
No bonus, no discounts only 10% off oral hygiene products. You most likely will get free/reduced dental treatment but this is goodwill of the individual dentist and then its finding the time in the day for this. There are targets on private treatment and oral hygiene products  however no incentives.
It is extremely difficult to get appointments for hospital, doctor etc. Even working 40hrs +. You will be asked to try and do it in your own time.
Communication within the practice is very poor and always has been
. You will run over sometimes into your lunch and end of day, which is sometimes inevitable. 

POSITIVES/ IMPROVEMENTS
*Communication regarding company updates from head office I would say is quite good, via email and  access to an online colleague site. 
* Free access to in house online training is very good.
* Pay has improved in the last 2 years.
* Staff turnover improved in the last 2 years
*Management has improved in the last 2 years
* During Covid the communication was excellent and the support
*We have been provided with all necessary PPE and air filtration units for C19


Thankfully it has improved in the last 2yrs.

The company has no value or respect for any member of their team. The management is intimidating and patronising. They try very hard to push old reliable staff out in order to recruit new employees who frequently are their friends outside of work. Your feedback is never welcome. Higher managers are bullies and play mind games, threatening you with disciplinary actions when you disagree with their views. And believe me it's hard to agree with their ways since they constantly break employment law. The staff and dentists turnover is unbelievable. Patients also tend to leave as they feel attacked by marketing and are sick & tired of seeing different dentist each time they visit the practice. Staff morale is non existing. Don't let me forget about all the threats of shutting the practices down or the need   of letting staff go as we don't meet the targets. And when I say targets I mean private targets that's all they care about. They expect you to sell private treatments ignoring UDAs targets just to wake up in January and panic that we are behind. Forcing you to open more days, doing more hours, working at the weekends etc.If you have a life outside of work this is not ideal for the company. Extra responsibilities and workload constantly piled onto the team with no reward or even a simple thanks. Justification required for every penny spent in the practice. Funnily enough we ask for private composites as we need it to treat our patients since you always push for more private. Practices are left to practically rot as they are under care of inexperienced and unprofessional managers with no clinical training. They over promise and under deliver.

Since working for Mydentist my career in dentistry has excelled, 
I feel there is fantastic opportunities to achieve career development within MyDentist and they put a lot of values into making staff feel like they can go further, learn more, and get more out of work with fantastic career prospects and encouragement to develop personally, my personal aim is always to grow within and with a company and I've really been able to do that.

I feel valued, supported especially by our manager who is approachable, knowledgeable always there to help, ready with a smile every day and this helps keeps morale in the practice high.

Have I ever required any support the PM and ADM have always been ready to help and give great helpful supporting advice. 

The company offer perks such as paid for GDC registration, Free CPD with our own online academy which has since COVID developed further offering us even more training / help / virtual training, to help keep us occupied and also ensure we can benefit from these unprecedented times.

They provide training, progression opportunities and a completely supported working environment.

Overall I am highly impressed with the dynamic of the team and the direction they seem to be moving. A collaborative and forward-thinking company who are investing a lot in developing the company further to become the best it can be, I am proud to work for Mydentist and helping to keep the national smiling! :) 

They have been fantastic during the COVID-19 time, ensuring staff are paid, kept up to date with all updates and made sure all staff feel safe at work, having heard alot from other nurses at other practices/companys say awful things having lack of information and guidance,  I really do feel lucky to work for mydentist.
