Unless you like being tirelessly overworked, want no help from management and enjoy being extremely stressed, look elsewhere. Service and General manager give off the impression that everything is ok and there’s no issues, but the amount of staff leaving and looking at leaving should be a clear indication it’s not a “great place to work”.  

The workload is relentless, the workload is excessive and we are understaffed to meet the workload. It’s one thing being busy but it is uncontrollable and is a very stressful environment to work in and it’s been like this for at least half a year with no sign of any improvement. You will have a fresh days of work come in plus carry overs from the past few days and you’re just expected to get on with it. This has been brought up multiple times and management just seem to shrug it off and overtime is pushed on you to get the work done. 

I feel like we are just seen as numbers and figures and as long as everything is in the green there is no issues. When in fact there are and when brought up management shrug it off and we are just meant to get on with it. 

You cannot make any errors or mistakes, you will always get the blame and treated badly no matter the circumstances especially if the customer has made a complaint. The process is just say your side of things and that’s it, no chance to redeem yourself or defend your case. Even if there’s no proof from either parties you will get the blame. They like to hand out verbal and written warnings. 

I’ve had hardly any training opportunities to progress, the amount of times I as well as others have had days booked to do training you’ll more than likely get it cancelled on the day and you’ll get the excuse of something along the lines of “we’re too busy”, so poor planning from management and you have to take the fall. Apprentices are struggling a lot!!!!

When it came to leaving and working my notice period I felt like the group didn’t care and was given the cold shoulder. The only interaction I had was an exit interview with someone on HR over a zoom call and they literally just read off the questions on the word document and typed my answers and that’s it. I brought up some issues which, in my opinion, needed immediate attention and I feel like this wasn’t given to the managers or it was just ignored as it’s still the same now. Managers hardly spoke to me, they didn’t have a discussion about why I’m leaving or anything. 

The only positive is the bonus but you will need to work hard and get lucky with the work mix given to you.  

I have nothing but the choiciest of swear words to describe the management and employees of Vertu, the negative bullying culture that exists within this shocking organisation and their method of working. A one star rating is one star too high for this company - if you are looking to apply here I would seriously reconsider!

The structure is very management heavy meaning lots of pointless senior management positions - GM's, Business Managers, all types of Sales managers you name it. They're quick to remind you that you are below them also and are constantly on your back about petty things from coming in 3 minutes late to work to how something is set up on an Excel sheet. Management will also lie directly to you while even having the audacity to keep a straight face.

What you may also find is company spending money on pointless things in order to portray itself as a wonderful environment and place to work but any sort of pay rise for employees is laughed off. They have a method of quick expansion via investment by buying dealerships round the country but they fail to take into account every brand is different with a different culture. Trying to standardise working practices throughout these brands is ridiculous and has led to many difficulties in operating the business which hopefully they soon fall upon. Employees are similar to chicken in a battery farm to management at the company - simply there for results so that they can look good for the board of directors, CEO and auditors. 

Expect a culture shock if you like to get on with your work as you will be constantly harrased and harrangued as to how far you've gotten and the method by which you are working. Also expect a very rude, loud, brash and aggressive management style and this is consistent throughout all departments be it Sales, Aftersales, Parts, Admin or even Accounts.

Cannot stress how strongly I feel anger about this company who did all they could to try and ruin a normal employees life and basically turned it upside down after they took over our dealership. Avoid at all costs!!

The motor trade can be a very challenging sector to work in, It is my opinion that the trade still struggles a little with old school management and the marketplace just isn’t like that anymore. 

Whilst Vertu still has a few of these managers, it’s very limited where other companies have had plenty more. 


From a pay point of view, I believe Vertu is just about in the right place with the latest pay increases, and I believe the bonuses are achievable if you apply yourself. 


There is plenty of training, some very valuable, but some quite frankly are cringe, but it is what it is and has to be done. 

As a sales executive, my role is a little old and the business is now taking on advisors with a much higher basic salary, as an executive my day to day role is very much down to myself, I treat each day as if I was self employed which is really motivating, everything I do can have a positive impact on the business, but more importantly, my wage. So my day is consists of checking emails, getting back to customers, meeting walk in customers, answering phone call enquiries, house keeping of the showroom.

The hardest part of the job will be the different stages of the year, for example now it’s December, business slows down as customers prepare for Christmas, then as we get past Christmas, it picks up before a mad rush in March, and then calms again before September. 

The best thing about the role, is a sense of freedom you can have, as long as you don’t overstep it, with me saying the role is similar to being self employed, if I need to go to an appointment outside of work for personal reasons, I can- if I want to go out for lunch I can, and I never get the impression people are watching how long I am gone, but remember I am the type to very rarely take full lunch breaks, I motivate myself on targets and the need to earn more money and I respect the business and the rules set. 


It was the best paid job I ever had, but the most demanding. You had to do A LOT, more than expected every single day.

Typical day as a Service Advisor would be-

Greet and check in the customers waiting at the desk (usually queueing before you get in). 

Go through everything with the customer on each job, do a lot of paper work and attach all to each job. Sort them out with a loan car if needed (customers were extremely demanding with loan cars and kicked off if there wasn't one even though they booked.)

Write up their job on the board.

Sort out relative parts, take to parts to sign off etc...

Keep an eye on each job throughout the day and call the customer to let them know what's happening (bearing in mind you have about 30 or more customers each). - this used to be really hard to keep up with as so many had very different problems.

Sort through the next day's jobs, adding parts needed etc... 

Meanwhile, customers come to the desk throughout the day and incoming calls which take up valuable time.

You always have to check the cars are cleaned because the cleaners never clean them properly EVER! so not only do I have to do my job I have to make sure they're doing their job properly too. Half the time they were never clean so that took up MORE of my time.

About 4/5pm it gets absolutely hectic as it's the end of the day and EVERY customer comes back about this time for their car. 

Queueing customers again. They are either fine or annoyed that the problem hasn't been resolved while it's been in, as the parts aren't available. Which was understandable at times but you were unable to change anything.

You are expected to take every customer to their car afterwards while more customers queue and they're getting angrier by the minute.

There is so much to this job and not a lot of recognition for it. May be down to the dealership for that but personally, as much as I loved the money... It wasn't worth it to me.

I have worked at MB Aylesbury for three years within the sales team. We have the most amazing team here with a fantastic atmosphere and phenomenal leadership. 

I have read many mixed reviews here so I felt the need to share my experience to anyone wishing to join Vertu Motors. I wholeheartedly feel that what you put in to this business is what you will get out. 

I work very hard because I feel valued and appreciated, my general sales manager has supported me in more ways than any manager would need to, he truly goes above and beyond for his staff bringing us a lot of job satisfaction. I am being trained to a very high degree with a brilliant pay structure. 

We have a huge workload and can work long hours but that is in no way a bad thing because you are rewarded for your dedication, we have a team mentality here and we all help eachother to ensure we will all succeed, absolutely no one is left behind. 

The training we have at out fingertips is second to none, some of it can seem a bit labourious but that's just the nature of training, if you engage with it and adapt it to your own style it will help you succeed immensely. You have the ability to invest in the companies share incentive plan which I have done it has been very beneficial to me. 

My advice to anyone considering a career here is to go for it, I have worked in a few toxic environments and this is the complete opposite. There will be ups and downs as there always are in a large business such as this but the highs most definitely negate the lows! Couldn't imagine working anywhere else. 

Opening hours are 8am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am until 1pm on a saturday for the service department. Anormal day however will see you there at least 15 minutes before the opening time which is to just try and finish the day before due to the high demand and heavy work load you take on from day to day. Also a Saturday is very hectic and sometime see you there after the official closing time of 1pm to try and finish off the working day due to the volume of work booked in. I have learned quite a lot on how the business works and is structured and also gained experience in man management of fellow work colleagues. The management are support in some ways and so can your colleagues be supportive from time to time. The hardest part of the job is having to try and manage the daily work load on top of carried over jobs of cars/vans still on site due to parts availability or further diagnostic work. Also having to deal with constant update requests off lease companies and he manufacturer make you working day more difficult by hindering you when trying to focus your attention on your daily and carried our retail/lease customers. The most enjoyable part of the job is delivering the customers the service they expect and receiving the thanks off the customers for your help and advice.

Honestly - worst company I have ever worked for. Being a technician you are constantly told you are not good enough, not productive enough etc and they don't care that most of the reasons are outside of your reach like poor internal processes, incompetent or poorly trained front desk or other staff who often will miss or forget part of their duties you have to sort wasting your time. Add constant high level of stress at work 8 hours day. Often expected to do overtime and feel pressured if you cant. Pay is mediocre at best with hardly reachable bonus targets. Seems the only thing they care about is the upsell and VHCs on the cars.. If you find nothing wrong with the car during visual health checks for them to upsell, you get shamed on the board. Career progression and training is virtually non existent, in fact they will slow you down as much as they can so you don't progress and ask for a higher pay moving up the bandings. Workshop itself is extremely dated with a lot of equipment missing or broken that does not get updated. If you ask for a special tool to do the professional repair as per manufacturer instructions don't be surprised there wont be one and you will be told that another technician managed it without one so you don't need it too. No surprise staff retention is poor as a lot of people are leaving or left.

Unorganised work place, were a lot of mistakes are made, were your coworkers constantly complain about they work, ungrateful and self entitled people, the swearing and disrespectful attitude towards everything is painful to witness. Not a very clean parts department, work colleges weren't helpful or respectful, xenophobic and misogynist attitude is a must to fit in, as a foreigner I had the distant treatment, with the verbal underlying coments, the talk behind the back. Taking bad about others without the other being present is something frequent. 
If you want to have the training you need to do the job, you'll have to keep asking for help, because no one is willing to seat with you and have the patience or the focus of explaining something for more than 5 minutes. There's so much more I could mention, but I'll just add that this was the worst job I've even been due to the coworkers and general workplace environment, never felt so small and not appreciated, to the point that they even forget you had holidays booked and send you a threatening email with unauthorised absence, misconduct and threatening to have you fired without notice. 

A typical day in the contact centre involves making calls to our existing customers to book them in for a service or Mot. All the customers have either bought the car from us or used us in the past. There is plenty of opportunity to make commission from every booking to you make. The job itself is easy after training. You are shown exactly how to use the system and given a starter script which you eventually adapt to your own. 

There is no real pressure from the management above. Their aim is to help you progress and get the best out of you so you do not waste your talent. You will have plenty of opportunity to progress within the business as long as you are committed and enjoy learning. Some people have progressed in as little as 8 months

The contact centre is like one big family. Everyone knows everyone and they often have nights out, basketball nights and a massive Christmas party. Inside of work there is often incentives and games between teams with potential to win prizes. 

The most enjoyable part of the role is the satisfaction of helping the customers mixed with fact you get commission for doing so.

When you start your day with a morning meeting and your line manager goes on a rant saying "If I had my way, I wouldn't employ a single one of you. There are jobs going at MG. People are lining up to take your jobs (which is false as they're having difficulty in recruiting)", this shows you the contempt managers have for their staff. All this was done to hide his inability to do the job he was employed to do. Then you can add the so called "Project Manager" or the man who is in charge overall telling every one that they are NOT ALLOWED TO USE THE WHISTLEBLOWING FACILITY which is in place from head office, it shouts it's not a good place to be in.

From my experience of being there, bullying, dishonesty, discrimination and racism is all part of the culture with BSM Cheltenham. Experienced sales people don't apply to this business but they rely on people who are ignorant on the way this business is run. Stay clear is my advice.
