Purpose of Position
To prepare and cook a balanced, nutritious diet within a controlled hygienic environment.
To control systems of food allocation to minimise wastage.
To operate and supervise other staff in order that all purchases are controlled within a specified budget.
To ensure the kitchen folders with information on allergens is kept up to date and in good clean condition.
To keep a true and accurate record of daily menus, orders and temperatures in the kitchen.
Principal Responsibilities
- To control stocks and purchases, thereby allocating the quantities of ingredients.
- To keep the purchase of ingredients within allocated budgets.
- To maintain a balanced diet and varied menus.
- To be aware of the residents needs and dietary preferences and to maintain a record.
- To maintain the kitchen equipment, as specified by respective manufacturers.
- To ensure that the kitchen is cleaned in line with the homes cleaning schedule and maintained to a hygienic state.
- To ensure the standards are maintained to a level where the home will achieve 5 stars on its food hygiene inspection.
- To ensure the safer food, better business folder is fully completed and the review mile stones are followed as laid out in the documentation.
- To carry out a review of the menus a minimum of 2 times per year with the manager and the activities co-ordinator.
- To build positive and caring relationships with families and residents within the home. Treat everyone with dignity, respect, compassion to help develop an environment where relationships can flourish.
- To ensure adequate supply of crockery, utensils, linen, cleaning materials and other necessary items.
- To maintain the allergens chief recipe cards for all menu dishes.
- To maintain and display pictorial menus daily for the residents.
- To attend and participate in the staff meetings.
- Assist in delivering the dementia plan and the operational plan.
- To attend all training that is provided to meet the requirements of your job role.
- To follow the requirements of the safeguarding of vulnerable adults, children and the whistleblowing policy.
- To comply with the companies health and safety procedures.
- To comply with the Care Quality Commission fundamental standards.
- To read the companies staff handbook with in the first 6 weeks of employment.
