Salary: £20,000–£24,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: 30 hours per week, Term Time Only (08:30–14:30)

ALP England is one of the largest providers of Alternative Learning Provision across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire. We support children and young people aged 4–18 who face barriers to accessing mainstream education by providing small-group learning in safe, supportive and engaging environments.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Workshop Instructor or Trainee Instructor to join our growing team. Whether you have experience working with young people or have a strong practical background in the construction trades and would like to move into education, we would love to hear from you.

About the Role
Working alongside the Unit Manager, you will deliver practical workshop sessions for small groups of students, teaching a range of construction and DIY skills while helping young people develop confidence, resilience and employability skills.
Many of our students have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or have experienced difficulties within mainstream education. Building positive relationships and becoming a trusted adult is therefore at the heart of this role.
Full training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging practical workshop sessions for individuals and small groups.
- Teach a range of construction-based skills, including carpentry, painting and decorating, brickwork, plumbing, basic electrical installation and general DIY activities.
- Ensure all workshop activities are carried out safely and in accordance with health and safety procedures.
- Build positive relationships with students, acting as a trusted adult and positive role model.
- Encourage resilience, confidence, independence and personal development.
- Monitor student progress and identify barriers to learning.
- Support positive behaviour and contribute to a calm and purposeful learning environment.
- Prepare and maintain workshop equipment, tools and teaching resources.
- Support educational visits, reward trips and enrichment activities.
- Work alongside colleagues, parents/carers and external professionals to support student progress.
- Assist with assessing and recording student achievements.
- Participate fully in staff meetings, training and professional development.
- Promote safeguarding and contribute to the wellbeing of every learner.
About You

Essential Requirements
- Practical experience within construction or related trades.
- Good understanding of safe working practices.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics (preferred).
- Basic IT skills.
- Applicants must be aged 18 or over.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Experience working with students with SEND or SEMH needs.
- Experience delivering practical training or mentoring others.
- Relevant vocational qualifications.
- Experience using hand and power tools in a teaching or workplace environment.
