We are seeking an experienced and passionate Lead Employability Skills Tutor to lead the planning, delivery and development of our City & Guilds Employability Skills programme.
The role will focus on supporting young people to develop the practical, personal and vocational skills required for further education, training, employment and adulthood. Learning will be delivered through engaging, practical and individualised sessions that enable learners to develop and evidence meaningful employability skills.
The successful candidate will have experience working with young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and will be confident adapting learning to individual ability, EHCP outcomes and identified goals.
Sessions are predominantly delivered individually or within small groups, typically at a maximum 5:1 learner-to-staff ratio, within our therapeutic farm and outdoor learning environments.
About Stable Futures
Stable Futures is a therapeutic Alternative Provision combining practical education, outdoor learning, animal-assisted interventions and personal development.
Across our Farm and Paddock forest provision, we provide bespoke learning opportunities for children and young people who may experience barriers to accessing traditional education.
As part of Amegreen Children’s Services, our approach places individual need, emotional wellbeing, personal development and preparation for future pathways at the centre of learning.
Key Responsibilities
City & Guilds Employability Skills
- Lead the planning and delivery of City & Guilds Employability Skills qualifications at appropriate Entry Levels.
- Develop structured and engaging learning opportunities that enable learners to achieve individual units and qualifications.
- Manage learner portfolios and ensure appropriate evidence is gathered to demonstrate achievement.
- Maintain accurate records relating to learner registration, progress, assessment and accreditation.
- Ensure delivery and assessment meet City & Guilds requirements and internal quality assurance processes.
- Adapt and scaffold learning appropriately for learners with SEN, SEMH and additional support needs.
Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver differentiated employability and vocational learning based on individual ability and need.
- Link learning to EHCP outcomes, personal development targets and identified progression goals where appropriate.
- Use practical and interest-led learning to increase engagement and provide meaningful opportunities to develop employability skills.
- Monitor learner progress and identify appropriate next steps.
- Maintain clear and accurate records of learning, engagement and achievement.
- Contribute to learner reports, reviews and professional meetings where required.
Careers, Employability & Next Steps
- Support learners to understand and develop the skills required for education, employment, apprenticeships, training and adulthood.
- Deliver practical learning covering communication, teamwork, workplace behaviours, personal presentation, CVs and applications, interview preparation, problem-solving, organisation, money skills, independence and responsibility.
- Support learners to explore realistic careers and progression pathways.
- Facilitate access to careers resources and platforms, including Unifrog.
- Develop links with employers, colleges and other organisations to increase learners' understanding of future opportunities.
- Support practical enterprise and work-related learning opportunities within the provision.
Pastoral & Therapeutic Support
- Work within Stable Futures' therapeutic and child-centred approach.
- Build positive and professional relationships with learners.
- Support the development of confidence, resilience, independence and emotional regulation.
- Adapt expectations and delivery according to individual presentation and need while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Promote learner voice and involve young people in identifying their own aspirations and goals.
- Work collaboratively with Learning Mentors and the wider staff team to support successful engagement.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Essential
- Experience delivering Employability Skills, vocational learning, careers education or similar programmes.
- Experience working with young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
- Ability to plan and deliver differentiated, learner-centred sessions.
- Confidence supporting learners with a wide range of abilities and barriers to education.
- Strong organisation and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to manage learner portfolios and evidence progression.
- Excellent communication and team-working skills.
- Commitment to inclusive, trauma-informed and child-centred education.
Desirable
- Experience delivering City & Guilds Employability Skills qualifications.
- Relevant teaching, tutoring, assessing or training qualification.
- Experience of qualification assessment and portfolio management.
- Experience within Alternative Provision, SEND education or therapeutic education.
- Knowledge of careers education and preparation for adulthood.
- Experience using careers guidance platforms such as Unifrog.
- Experience developing employer, college or community partnerships.
Additional Duties
- Contribute to wider practical and vocational activities across Stable Futures.
- Work collaboratively with Learning Mentors, Tutors, Managers and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Support appropriate site-based activities where required, including animal care, horticulture, culinary, outdoor and creative learning.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, welcoming and effective learning environment.
- Follow all organisational policies relating to safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour management and professional practice.
- Undertake relevant training and continued professional development as required.
