Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Finance Officer / Management Accountant to join our Swansea office on a part-time basis and take responsibility for the day-to-day finance function.
Working closely with our Operations Manager, Managing Director and external accountants, you will maintain accurate financial records, manage the daily flow of transactions and produce reliable management information to support business decision-making.
This is a hands-on role combining day-to-day accounts management with month-end reporting, VAT, cash flow monitoring and financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records within Xero
- Process and correctly code purchase invoices and expenses
- Manage supplier accounts and prepare payment runs for approval
- Raise sales invoices and manage customer accounts
- Manage credit control and follow up outstanding payments
- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations
- Manage and reconcile payments through Apron
- Monitor Direct Debits, recurring payments and financial commitments
- Prepare monthly management accounts
- Complete month-end processes including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare and support VAT returns
- Monitor cash flow and support forecasting
- Review profit and loss performance and investigate variances
- Review transactions for incorrect coding or discrepancies
- Support budgeting, job costing and wider cost analysis
- Maintain accurate financial information across our business systems
- Liaise with our external accountants regarding payroll, VAT, year-end accounts and other financial matters
- Support the finance requirements of associated business interests where required
Qualifications & Experience
We are looking for someone with strong practical finance experience who is confident taking responsibility for accurate day-to-day accounts and management reporting.
Ideally, you will:
- Hold AAT Level 4, be part-qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA, or have equivalent demonstrable experience
- Have practical experience preparing management accounts
- Have a strong working knowledge of VAT
- Be confident using Xero
- Understand purchase ledger, sales ledger, bank reconciliations, accruals and prepayments
- Be comfortable managing a regular volume of invoices and financial transactions
- Have excellent attention to detail and be confident investigating discrepancies
- Be organised and able to manage competing priorities
- Be comfortable learning new software and systems quickly
- Communicate clearly and work well as part of a small team
Experience using Apron would be advantageous but is not essential.
We use Simpro as our operational and job management system. Previous Simpro experience is not expected, but a strong aptitude for learning new systems will be important.
Experience within construction, electrical contracting, renewables or another project-based business would be advantageous but is not essential.
Working Pattern
This is a 3-day-per-week, office-based role at our premises in Crofty, Swansea.
Specific working days can be discussed with the successful candidate.
There is scope for the role to develop into a full-time position in the near future for the right person as our finance requirements continue to grow.
Salary
£18,600–£21,000 per annum for 3 days per week, equivalent to £31,000–£35,000 FTE, depending on experience and qualification.
Pay: £31,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
