The Role
We're looking for a Transport Planner to join our growing team at our West Bromwich Depot. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in our transport operation, ensuring customer deliveries are planned efficiently and completed on time. You'll work closely with drivers, customers, and colleagues to deliver exceptional service while keeping our fleet operating at its best.
Key Responsibilities
· Planning and scheduling vehicle loads to maximise efficiency and meet customer requirements.
· Receiving customer orders and allocating work to drivers.
· Monitoring transport activity and making real-time adjustments to keep deliveries on track.
· Communicating fleet availability and operational updates with the wider team.
· Building strong relationships with drivers, colleagues, and customers to ensure excellent service.
· Providing customers with accurate delivery updates and estimated arrival times.
· Conducting daily driver briefings and debriefings.
· Recording collection and delivery information accurately and escalating any issues where necessary.
· Investigating and resolving transport-related challenges in a live operational environment.
Skills & Experience
Essential
· Previous experience in a Transport Planner, Logistics Planner, or similar transport coordination role.
· A solid understanding of transport planning, route optimisation, and fleet scheduling.
· Experience working within a fast-paced logistics or haulage environment, with the ability to react quickly to changing priorities.
· Strong knowledge of transport compliance and driver regulations, with an understanding of drivers' hours and working time requirements.
· Excellent communication skills, with experience liaising professionally with drivers, customers, and internal teams.
· The ability to remain calm under pressure, troubleshoot operational issues, and make effective decisions in a live transport environment.
· Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· High levels of accuracy and attention to detail when updating transport systems and maintaining operational records.
· Good IT skills, including experience using transport management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
· A proactive, flexible approach and the ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a team.
Desirable Requirements
· Experience in a transport planning position.
