We are looking for an enthusiastic Lead Practice Nurse to join our friendly, supportive team at Dr Curran & Partners, based in the heart of Clapham with excellent transport links. We are a training practice with strong academic links, offering development opportunities to all clinicians and delivering high‑quality care to a list of 11,000 patients.
This is a full‑time role (37.5 hours, Monday–Friday). You will receive regular support, supervision, and opportunities to grow your clinical and leadership skills.
About the Role
As Lead Practice Nurse, you will provide clinical leadership for our Nursing, HCA, and Care Coordinator teams. You will ensure safe, effective, evidence‑based care and support the smooth running of our clinical services.
You will also act as the practice’s Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Lead, oversee chronic disease management, contribute to QOF achievement, support immunisation campaigns, and work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care
- Assess, diagnose, and treat minor illnesses within competence.
- Deliver evidence‑based care aligned with national guidelines (NICE, NSF).
- Manage chronic conditions including diabetes, COPD, asthma, and hypertension.
- Provide cervical screening, contraception reviews, lifestyle advice and NHS Health Checks.
- Perform wound care, compression therapy, immunisations (including baby vaccines), travel health, phlebotomy, therapeutic injections, and minor‑procedure support.
- Maintain accurate clinical records (SNOMED CT) and promote patient self‑care.
Infection Prevention & Control Lead
- Lead all IPC activity including audits, staff training, compliance, and annual IPC reporting.
- Ensure a clean, safe, CQC‑compliant environment and oversee PPE, sharps, and waste management.
Team Leadership
- Lead and support the Nursing, HCA, and Care Coordinator teams.
- Supervise new clinicians and trainee roles; support inductions and CPD.
- Manage team rotas, appraisals, competency development, and workforce planning.
QOF, Public Health & Population Health
- Lead delivery of QOF targets and chronic disease reviews.
- Coordinate flu, COVID‑19, and other immunisation campaigns.
- Support initiatives that improve access and reduce health inequalities.
Governance & Quality Improvement
- Contribute to audits, research, policy updates, and service improvements.
- Maintain safeguarding standards for adults and children.
- Support complaints handling, incident learning, and safe management of vaccines, stock, and emergency equipment.
Administrative & Collaborative
- Manage vaccine ordering, stock control, and cold‑chain processes.
- Oversee recall systems for smears, immunisations, and chronic disease reviews.
- Liaise with external agencies for patient support.
- Assist practice leadership with implementation of clinical policies and changes.
Additional Duties
- Develop and review nursing protocols.
- Lead practice‑wide service improvements.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and manage medical supplies and prescribing claims.
