Steel Fitter
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Steel Fitter to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling, fitting, and installing structural steel components in accordance with engineering drawings and project specifications. The role requires a strong understanding of fabrication techniques, safe working practices, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Measure, mark out, and prepare steel components for assembly.
- Assemble and fit structural steelwork, including beams, columns, frames, staircases, and other fabricated components.
- Align, level, and secure steel structures using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Perform drilling, cutting, grinding, and minor fabrication work where required.
- Ensure all work meets quality standards and project specifications.
- Inspect completed work for accuracy and structural integrity.
- Use lifting equipment, cranes, and power tools safely and correctly.
- Report defects, material shortages, or safety concerns to supervisors.
- Work collaboratively with welders, fabricators, site managers, and other trades.
- Travel to project sites across the UK as required, with work locations varying depending on company contracts and customer requirements.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience as a Steel Fitter, Structural Steel Erector, or in a similar role.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Good knowledge of structural steel installation and fabrication methods.
- Competent in the use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Physically fit and comfortable working at heights where required.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel and work at sites throughout the UK, including overnight stays where necessary.
Desirable - but not essential
- CSCS Card.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Steel Erecting, Fabrication, or a related trade.
- First Aid at Work qualification.
Health & Safety
- Follow all company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Wear appropriate PPE at all times.
- Participate in safety briefings and toolbox talks.
- Report accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly.
- Ensure all equipment is inspected before use.
Working Conditions
- This is a site-based role, working on construction and industrial projects across the UK.
- Regular travel to project locations throughout the country is required, with work taking place wherever the company's contracts are located.
- Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines.
Salary
Competitive salary, dependent on experience and qualifications, plus overtime opportunities where applicable.
Pay: Up to £70,000.00 per year
