SEMH Support
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Support Assistant to join our educational team. This role will focus on supporting learners with a range of needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, disabilities, and behavioural challenges. You will play an important role in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and able to engage in their education.
Monday – Friday | Full Time | Term Time Only
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Duties
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students, helping them engage with lessons and activities.
- Support children and young people with autism, disabilities, emotional needs, and behavioural challenges.
- Build positive relationships with students, helping to promote confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing.
- Assist with managing behaviour using positive and proactive strategies.
- Support social, emotional, and behavioural development through structured activities and interventions.
- Encourage students to participate in classroom activities and develop their skills.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for each learner.
Skills & Experience
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH needs, autism, disabilities, or behavioural difficulties is highly desirable.
- Previous experience within a school, special education setting, care environment, or working directly with young people is essential.
- Knowledge and understanding of special educational needs and strategies to support diverse learning requirements.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Confident supporting students with emotional regulation and behavioural needs.
- A proactive attitude and a genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
Requirements
- Enhanced DBS
- Relevant experience supporting children or young people.
