Support Worker Required – International Travel Opportunity (Florida, USA)
An opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and professional Support Worker to accompany two disabled adults on an international trip to Florida, USA, in October. The purpose of the trip is to attend Halloween Horror Nights and other planned activities.
The successful applicant will provide high-quality, person-centred support throughout the duration of the trip, ensuring both individuals can participate safely, comfortably, and with dignity.
About the Individuals
Rhys Bowler has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and is a wheelchair and ventilator user. He requires support with personal care, mobility, and activities of daily living. Rhys is also an avid tea drinker and a keen horror fan.
Josh has Cerebral Palsy, is a wheelchair user, and requires hoisting for transfers. He also requires assistance with personal care and daily living activities. Josh is a dedicated metalhead and horror enthusiast.
Role Summary
The successful candidate will act as the primary support worker during the trip, working in collaboration with the lead carer to provide safe, effective, and person-centred support. The role requires a high level of professionalism, flexibility, and the ability to respond appropriately to changing circumstances while travelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred care in accordance with each individual's assessed needs and preferences.
- Assist with personal care, including washing, dressing, toileting, and other activities of daily living.
- Support safe mobility, including wheelchair assistance, transfers, and hoisting where required.
- Assist throughout all stages of travel, including airports, flights, transfers, accommodation, and community access.
- Prompt or administer medication where appropriately trained and authorised.
- Support with meals, hydration, and feeding where required.
- Accompany both individuals to Halloween Horror Nights and other planned activities and excursions throughout the trip.
- Monitor and report any changes in physical, emotional, or behavioural wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate records where required.
- Work collaboratively with the lead carer, respecting established care routines and methods of support.
- Promote independence, dignity, choice, inclusion, and wellbeing at all times.
- Comply with all safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, and data protection requirements.
Person Specification
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Previous experience providing support or personal care to disabled adults is desirable but not essential.
- Full training will be provided for applicants with no previous care experience who can demonstrate the right values, commitment, and willingness to learn.
- A compassionate, professional, and reliable approach to supporting others.
- Confidence in providing personal care and supporting individuals with complex physical disabilities.
- Experience with hoisting and manual handling is desirable; training will be provided where required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to remain calm, adaptable, and organised in a travel environment.
- A commitment to promoting independence, dignity, choice, and delivering high-quality person-centred care.
