Grounds Maintenance Operative (Lead Operative)

Deeside Management Services Ltd is looking for an experienced Grounds Maintenance Operative (Lead Operative) to join our growing grounds maintenance team.
We provide commercial grounds maintenance, landscaping and property maintenance services across North Wales and the North West.
This is a hands-on role working as part of a two-person grounds maintenance team. Alongside carrying out the work yourself, you will take responsibility for leading your team on allocated sites and ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
You will report directly to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead and work alongside another Grounds Maintenance Operative
- Carry out commercial grounds maintenance across a variety of sites
- Grass cutting using pedestrian and ride-on mowers
- Strimming and edging
- Hedge and shrub cutting
- Pruning and general horticultural maintenance
- Weed control and spraying where appropriately qualified
- Vegetation and site clearance
- Litter picking and general site presentation
- Basic hard landscaping and fencing works where required
- Organise the work between yourself and your team member
- Follow site specifications and planned maintenance schedules
- Ensure allocated works are completed within the required timescales
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship across all sites
- Carry out daily checks of vehicles, tools, machinery and equipment
- Ensure equipment is operated safely and correctly
- Take before, during and completion photographs of works
- Complete job sheets and site information accurately
- Report defects, additional works and site issues to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor
- Communicate professionally with clients and site representatives when required
- Ensure company Health & Safety procedures and RAMS are followed at all times
- Help train and support less experienced operatives
About You
We are looking for somebody who:
- Has previous professional grounds maintenance or landscaping experience
- Has experience working on commercial sites
- Is confident operating commercial grounds maintenance machinery
- Has experience using ride-on mowers, pedestrian mowers, strimmers and hedge cutters
- Has good practical knowledge of grounds maintenance
- Takes pride in producing a high standard of work
- Is reliable, organised and punctual
- Can work independently without constant supervision
- Is confident taking responsibility for another operative
- Can organise and prioritise the work allocated to their team
- Can identify additional works or potential issues while attending sites
- Has good communication skills
- Holds a full UK driving licence
Previous experience as a Lead Operative, Senior Grounds Maintenance Operative or Team Leader would be advantageous.

- Woodchipper
Additional training and qualifications can be provided to the right candidate.

We are looking for somebody who can be trusted to take responsibility for their allocated sites and work alongside and lead another operative while maintaining the standards expected by our commercial clients.
This position would particularly suit an experienced Grounds Maintenance Operative who is ready to take the next step into a Lead Operative position, or somebody already working as a Team Leader or Lead Operative who is looking for a long-term role within a growing company.
