About us
Silkworm Store is a small, progressive company specialising in pet food and supplies for exotic animals. We are growing within our industry and are looking for a dependable Office Assistant to support order fulfilment and dispatch as part of our team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to learn how a growing specialist business operates. For the right person, there may be opportunities to develop into other areas of the company as the role and business grow.
The role
Your main responsibility will be helping the team prepare customer orders accurately and on time. This is clean, lightweight fulfilment in an office-based working environment rather than a warehouse role. Most parcels are small and weigh less than 1kg. You will learn our fulfilment and shipping systems and help ensure parcels are packed carefully and processed correctly for dispatch.
Typical duties will include:
- Picking and packing customer orders accurately.
- Preparing boxes and products for safe dispatch.
- Using computer systems to process shipments and produce shipping labels.
- Checking order and address information before dispatch.
- Working with colleagues to meet daily collection deadlines.
- Keeping the packing and fulfilment area organised.
- Following documented procedures and learning new processes as the business develops.
What we are looking for
You do not need to have worked in our industry before, as full training will be provided. We are primarily looking for someone who is:
- Reliable, hard-working and willing to take responsibility for their work.
- A fast and confident learner.
- Careful and accurate, even when working to deadlines.
- Comfortable using computers and learning new software.
- Able to work well as part of a small team.
- Organised and able to follow procedures consistently.
Previous experience in fulfilment, packing, dispatch, office operations or another deadline-based working environment would be helpful but is not essential.
What we offer
- £13.00 per hour.
- Full training in our products, systems and fulfilment processes.
- A supportive, office-based role in a small and expanding specialist business.
- The opportunity to learn different parts of the business over time.
- The potential to progress to full-time work following successful completion of a three-month probationary period, subject to performance and business needs.
- Free on-site parking in the company car park.
- A paid break of up to 15 minutes during each shift, including time to eat. There is no separate lunch break.
- Staff discount on relevant products if you keep exotic pets that use products sold by the company.
How to apply
Apply through Indeed with your CV and answers to the short application questions. Please tell us about any experience that demonstrates reliability, accuracy, learning new systems or working to deadlines.
Silkworm Store welcomes applications from candidates who meet the requirements of the role. If you require a reasonable adjustment for the recruitment process, please let us know.
