Bank position, for days and nights and weekends shifts
Hourly rate is between £25.36-£27.16
QUALIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse
REPORTS TO: Deputy Manager/ Home manager
JOB SUMMARY
- To deliver registered nursing care to residents of the home.
- To delegate nursing tasks to junior nurses, care staff, and be responsible for ensuring that delegated tasks are completed.
- To support the Deputy Manager and Registered Manager with the Quality Improvement Strategy and its implementation.
- To deputise in the absence of the Deputy Manager and Registered Manager when needed.
- To actively lead the nursing and care teams in providing direct care and support to residents
- To be responsible for a number of named residents taking the role of named nurse and ensuring that care documentation is up to date and reflective of current resident needs.
- To undertake clinical and non-clinical audit as requested.
1. Assess the clinical performance of home, use data from the clinical governance and clinical Key Performance Indicators, to develop strategies ensuring regulatory compliance
2. Collaborate on and implement actionable steps to address clinical issues identified, incorporating clinical measures.
3. Aid the Home in fulfilling all regulatory and statutory obligations, particularly concerning staff clinical training and competency.
4. Provide support to nursing and care staff within the home in managing clinical investigations or complaints.
Duties and Responsibilities
Management Responsibility
· To Support the home and Deputy Manager in managing resources effectively
· Support the Deputy Manager /in managing staffs contracted hours, sickness, absence and training.
· Support the deputy manager/manager in the assessment of all care and nursing staffs’ performance objectively through competency and personal development planning
· Provide clear feedback to team members in a way that is conducive to maintaining and improving performance. Where performance is unsatisfactory, inform Deputy Manager / Registered Manager.
· When directed take necessary steps to effectively, manage the individual with support
from HR and the Senior Management Team.
· Demonstrate appropriate assertiveness and ability to challenge others when the rights of residents and others may be infringed.
· Promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interests of residents and cohesive service delivery
· Actively promote diversity and equality. Generate and sustain relationships that promote dignity, rights and responsibilities
· Be accountable for own practice and for the delegation of care given to more junior
colleagues, care staff and students
· To undertake supervision and appraisal of those staff as delegated by the deputy manager / Registered Manager Support nursing staff and care team leaders with regular appraisals and supervisions.
· To provide support to any internal or external audit, care inspection or regulatory function by being present and providing clear direct leadership to nursing and care teams.
· Overseeing the day-to-day activities of care home staff, including care assistants, nurses, and support workers. This involves providing guidance, support, and direction to ensure that all staff members adhere to care standards and policies.
· Fostering a positive and inclusive environment within the care home that promotes residents' well-being, dignity, and independence. Encouraging teamwork, open communication, and a culture of respect and compassion among staff members.
Clinical Responsibilities
· Participating in the assessment of residents' care needs and developing individual care plans in collaboration with the care team, residents, and their families. Monitoring residents' progress and updating care plans as necessary.
· To be responsible for the generation and maintaining of residents care records including admission assessments, risk assessment, care planning document, daily progress notes and assessments.
· To administer medications and prescribed items- Overseeing the safe management and administration of medications to residents, including ensuring that medication procedures are followed correctly, medications are stored securely, and staff are trained in medication administration.
· To undertake audit and review of residents files
· To work in collaboration with prescribers and other healthcare professionals.
· To order and store medications and prescription items, to undertake medication reviews and to be responsible for the direct liaison between prescriber, pharmacy and care home.
· To work, directly as the nurse in charge on at the site and to provide direct clinical care.
Infection Prevention and Control
· To implement and follow all related policies and procedures in relation to infection prevention and control. To report any outbreaks to the Deputy Manager / Registered Manager.
· To practice effective hand hygiene and make use of any PPE provided for your task as appropriate, raising with the Deputy Manager /Registered Manager any perceived Infection Control Needs.
Health and Safety
· To work safely and be responsible for your own and other health and safety at work.
· To report any health and safety incidents including near misses in line with incident reporting policy.
· To always, follow risk assessments that have been implemented to reduce the likelihood or severity of incidents that do happen and to take part in the review of general and resident risk assessments as instructed.
Information Governance
All staff are required to maintain confidentiality of resident and organisational information as
set out in information governance policies and procedures.
All staff are required to read and comply with all policies that are issued relating to
the electronic security of information.
All staff who create, access, transfer, and modify sensitive records have a
responsibility to be both accurate and timely and ensure that all the information that
they either record on paper or electronically is complete.
Contribute to the development and implementation of nursing policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure safe and effective nursing practice within the organisation.
Safeguarding of Adults and Children
All staff are responsible for complying with Little Sisters of the Poor policies on adult
safeguarding in conjunction with local authority guidelines.
All staff are responsible for identifying potential abuse of adults and reporting it accordingly.
All staff are required to attend Safeguarding awareness training for Children, Young
People and Adults at risk. Some staff groups will be required to attend additional
safeguarding training relevant to their role.
This is in line with the Guidance outlined in the intercollegiate document (April
2006) Safeguarding Children and Young People: Roles and Competencies for
Health Care Staff.
Professional Registration
· To maintain the requirements of remaining on the register of nurses held by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
· The Senior Nurse is to cooperate with any and all investigations, and fact finds both internal and from external regulators.
· To support staff in reporting concerns and champion whistleblowing.
· To immediately inform the Deputy Manager / Registered Manager and HR Manager if you become aware of any concerns regarding the practice of another member of staff including but not limited to fitness to practice and conditions of practice orders.
Training and Development
· To be responsible for maintain your own training and development in respect of being up to date with essential training.
· To support others with their learning and development and be responsible for junior nurses maintaining their essential training.
· Teaching and coaching other in practice in line with your experience and competency.
· Stay abreast of current research findings and evidence-based practices in nursing, incorporating them into clinical practice and encouraging staff to engage in evidence-based decision-making.
