Costain have won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by United Utilities as one of 7 partners to the Enterprise, delivering £5.5bn of projects in the Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) between 2025 – 2030, and AMP 9 (2030 – 2035). Our scope is to provide project management, design, construction and commissioning services on design and build schemes throughout the North West and Cumbria region covered by United Utilities. Projects vary in value, covering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets on water and wastewater sites with wider Enterprise partners.
The role will be hybrid, based in Windermere, Cumbria

Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities
Support the design, review, and implementation of electrical systems for project requirements
Review technical documentation, drawings, and specifications
Undertake material selection and prepare associated technical approval and acceptance documentation
Ensure compliance with relevant standards
Production of quality documentation, such as ITPS and installation verification check sheets
Identify, assess, and manage technical risks, supporting effective problem resolution
Support assurance, quality, and safety processes throughout the project lifecycle
Interface with installation and construction teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with site requirements
Provide engineering support during installation, testing, and commissioning activities Other Responsibilities
Work closely with the immediate Engineering team to coordinate requirements and programme delivery
Liaise with the procurement team to ensure appropriate electrical equipment is specified and sourced Maintain close coordination with Design, Safety, and Planning teams
Promote and support the implementation of Costain values and behaviours across the project
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essentials
Experience in electrical engineering within the Water industry
Strong understanding of electrical design principles and relevant standards
Experience working within a main contractor or major project environment
Sound knowledge of electrical installation practices and associated equipment
Desirable
