Location
This position will initially be based at our Wigan school. Upon the opening of our Chorley school in February 2027, you will transition to that site as part of the school's planned expansion.
About the Role
We are seeking an inspirational and resilient Biology and PE Teacher to join our team. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and accessible lessons in both Biology and Physical Education to small classes of students (typically 4-8 pupils) with complex SEMH needs.
You will lead the delivery of the Biology curriculum and support the development of Physical Education across the school, ensuring students have opportunities to achieve meaningful qualifications and develop healthy, active lifestyles that support both their physical and emotional wellbeing.
This is not a mainstream teaching role. You will need to be highly adaptable, trauma-informed, and capable of prioritising emotional regulation alongside academic rigour. You will look beyond behaviours to see the individual child, using your passion for both Biology and sport to re-engage learners who may have experienced significant barriers to education.
Key Responsibilities1. Teaching, Learning & Curriculum Development
- Plan, deliver and assess outstanding Biology and PE lessons that are appropriately differentiated to meet the diverse and complex needs of our cohort.
- Lead the delivery of GCSE Biology and contribute to the planning and delivery of a broad and engaging Physical Education curriculum.
- Design highly engaging, practical and hands-on learning experiences that promote participation, confidence and achievement.
- Use baseline data (e.g. reading ages and assessment information) to inform Quality First Teaching and adapt lesson structures accordingly.
- Track and monitor pupil progress rigorously, using data to close attainment gaps and improve outcomes.
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS (Essential).
- A relevant degree in Biology, Science, Physical Education, Sports Studies, or a related subject (Essential).
- Additional qualifications in SEND, Autism, SEMH or Trauma-Informed Practice (Desirable).
Experience
- Proven track record of successfully teaching Biology to GCSE level (Essential).
- Experience teaching Physical Education across Key Stages 3 and 4 (Essential).
- Experience working with children and young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or complex behavioural needs (Highly Desirable).
- Experience within an Alternative Provision, PRU or Specialist Independent School (Desirable).
