About the Role
We are looking for an experienced, energetic and reliable Café All-Rounder to join our busy café in the heart of Woodford Green.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment and is equally confident working in food preparation, behind the coffee machine and front of house.
You will be an important part of the daily operation, helping to ensure that the café runs smoothly from opening through to the afternoon. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, has excellent attention to detail and understands the importance of providing great food, excellent coffee and outstanding customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation
- Prepare fresh food, sandwiches, salads, breakfasts, pastries and other café dishes.
- Complete daily food preparation to a consistently high standard.
- Follow recipes, portion controls and presentation standards.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene, cleanliness and organisation.
- Ensure food is stored correctly and safely.
- Assist with stock rotation and monitoring of ingredients.
- Help with opening and setting up the kitchen and food preparation areas.
Barista & Coffee
- Prepare high-quality coffees and hot drinks to a consistently excellent standard.
- Operate and maintain the coffee machine and associated equipment.
- Ensure the coffee station is clean, fully stocked and organised.
- Develop a good understanding of coffee preparation and presentation.
Front of House
- Welcome customers warmly and provide friendly, efficient service.
- Take orders and process payments accurately.
- Serve food and drinks professionally.
- Maintain a clean, welcoming and well-presented café environment.
- Clear and reset tables quickly during busy periods.
- Deal confidently and professionally with customer requests.
General Café Duties
- Work as part of a close and hardworking team.
- Move between food preparation, coffee service and front of house as required.
- Support colleagues during busy periods.
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the café.
- Follow all food safety, health & safety and company procedures.
- Assist with opening and closing duties.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous café, restaurant, catering or hospitality experience.
- Has genuine experience in food preparation.
- Is a confident and capable barista.
- Has excellent customer service skills.
- Is comfortable working across both kitchen and front of house.
- Can remain calm, organised and professional when the café is extremely busy.
- Has a positive, can-do attitude.
- Works quickly without compromising on quality.
- Has excellent standards of personal hygiene and cleanliness.
- Is reliable, punctual and hardworking.
- Is a great team player but can also work independently.
- Takes pride in presentation and attention to detail.
- Is friendly, professional and approachable.
Essential
- Previous hospitality/café experience.
- Food preparation experience.
- Barista experience.
- Experience working in a busy environment.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Good understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Strong reliability and timekeeping.
Desirable
- Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Experience in a high-quality or independent café.
- Experience preparing fresh food to order.
- Knowledge of speciality coffee.
- Experience with EPOS/till systems.
