About the role
Hope Care Service Agency is an established, CQC-rated Good domiciliary and live-in care provider supporting people across Cheltenham and Gloucester.
We are looking for an experienced Deputy Care Manager to work alongside our Registered Manager, supporting the day-to-day management of the service and taking the lead on quality assurance and compliance.
This is a newly created position within a clearly defined management structure, with separate responsibility for rotas, training, field supervision, recruitment and business administration.
Main responsibilities
You will:
- Support the Registered Manager with the safe and effective running of the service.
- Maintain the service’s audit schedule, compliance tracker and supporting evidence.
- Audit care plans, risk assessments, medication records, daily notes and visit records.
- Ensure care plans and risk assessments remain current, accurate and person-centred.
- Monitor incidents, accidents, complaints and safeguarding concerns.
- Support investigations and ensure resulting actions are completed.
- Identify events that may require a CQC notification and escalate these promptly to the Registered Manager.
- Monitor staff supervisions, spot checks, competency assessments and other quality checks.
- Produce a concise weekly quality and compliance update.
- Check that improvements have been implemented and re-audited.
- Support staff to understand good-quality care and record keeping.
- Assist with client assessments, reviews and quality-monitoring visits.
- Provide day-to-day management support when the Registered Manager is unavailable.
You will not be expected to produce the main staff rota, manage recruitment or deliver all staff training, as these areas have separate named responsibilities.
You will not work a routine care-assistant rota or act as the service’s default emergency visit cover.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Has substantial experience in domiciliary or home care.
- Has worked as a Deputy Manager, Care Manager, Registered Manager, Quality Lead or in a similar senior role.
- Understands CQC regulations and the evidence expected from a well-led service.
- Is confident auditing care plans, risk assessments, medication records and care documentation.
- Understands safeguarding, complaints, incidents and CQC notification requirements.
- Can identify problems and turn them into practical improvements.
- Is organised, approachable and able to follow actions through to completion.
- Is comfortable using electronic care-management systems.
- Holds at least a Level 3 qualification in Adult Care.
- Ideally holds, or is working towards, a Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management.
- Holds a full UK driving licence and has access to a vehicle for work-related travel.
- Has the right to work in the UK without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
Previous Registered Manager experience would be welcomed but is not essential. Strong practical knowledge of domiciliary care, compliance and quality assurance is more important than job title alone.
On-call arrangements
Participation in a shared management on-call rota will be required, expected to be approximately one week in four once the full team is in place.
On-call involves coordinating and escalating urgent matters rather than routinely covering care visits. A separate standby payment will apply, and the frequency, payment arrangements and expectations will be explained fully during the recruitment process before an offer is accepted.
As we provide care throughout the year, some fair, rota-based management coverage may also be required during bank holidays and the Christmas period.
What we offer
- A salary of £35,000–£40,000, based on experience.
- A clearly defined role with the opportunity to improve and develop the service.
- Direct support from the Registered Manager.
- Separate responsibility within the team for rotas, training, field supervision and recruitment.
- Workplace pension.
- The opportunity to make a visible difference within a growing local care company.
If you have strong domiciliary-care experience, understand what good compliance looks like and enjoy turning findings into practical improvements, we would be pleased to hear from you.
