Field Service & Installation Engineer – Packaging Machinery
Salary
Circa £42,000 per year, dependent on experience
Benefits
Company vehicle, pension, expenses and opportunity to grow with the business
Location
Based from Thame, Oxfordshire, with regular travel to customer sites throughout the UK
Job type
Permanent, full-time
This is not a trainee engineering position. We are looking for someone who already has strong hands-on experience working with industrial machinery and who can confidently diagnose faults, install equipment and deal directly with customers.
About Lancing
Lancing Ltd supplies and supports industrial packaging machinery, including filling, capping, labelling, conveying, coding, shrink wrapping and automated production equipment. We are an innovative, currently small but expanding business based in Thame, Oxfordshire.
Because we are growing, this role offers more variety, responsibility and influence than a typical engineering job in a large organisation. The successful engineer will become an important part of our technical team and will have the opportunity to develop with the company as our installed machine base and automation capability expand.
The Role
· Install and commission packaging machinery at customer sites throughout the UK.
· Service, maintain and repair filling, capping, labelling, conveying, shrink wrapping, coding and related automated machinery.
· Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults efficiently and methodically.
· Carry out machine setup, adjustment, testing and production trials.
· Read and work from electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
· Assist with machinery preparation, modification and testing at our Thame facility when not working on customer sites.
· Provide practical operator and maintenance training to customers.
· Complete accurate service reports and communicate clearly with customers and the Lancing team.
· Represent Lancing professionally on site and take ownership of jobs through to completion.
Essential Experience – Please Read Before Applying
To avoid wasting your time or ours, please only apply if you can demonstrate the majority of the following:
· At least 3 years' practical experience servicing, maintaining, installing or commissioning industrial machinery.
· Strong mechanical engineering and fault-finding ability.
· Good electrical fault-finding skills on industrial equipment, including sensors, motors, relays, contactors and control circuits.
· Confidence working independently at customer sites without needing constant technical supervision.
· Experience using hand tools, power tools and electrical test equipment safely and competently.
· Ability to understand technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
· A practical, methodical approach to diagnosing faults rather than simply replacing parts.
· Good customer-facing communication skills and a professional manner.
· Full UK driving licence.
· Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout the UK and stay away from home when required.
Highly Desirable
· Previous experience with packaging, processing, production-line or automation machinery.
· PLC fault-finding or diagnostic experience.
· Experience with pneumatic systems, servo drives, variable-speed drives, sensors and industrial control systems.
· Experience commissioning new machinery or modifying existing production equipment.
· Basic fabrication, machining or TIG welding capability.
Who This Role Will Suit
This role should suit an experienced service, maintenance, installation or commissioning engineer who enjoys solving real machinery problems and wants more responsibility within a growing business. You should be comfortable working on your own initiative, but also willing to contribute to a small team where everyone gets involved.
Who This Role Will Not Suit
· Applicants looking for their first engineering role or a trainee position.
· Candidates whose experience is mainly domestic, facilities or non-industrial maintenance with little exposure to production machinery.
· People who are uncomfortable with electrical fault-finding or hands-on mechanical work.
· Applicants who do not want regular UK travel, customer-site work or occasional overnight stays.
· Candidates who require close day-to-day supervision to diagnose and complete engineering jobs.
What We Offer
· Circa £42,000 basic salary, dependent on relevant experience.
· Company vehicle for business travel.
· Company pension.
· Business travel and reasonable subsistence expenses.
· Varied work across a wide range of industrial machinery and customer applications.
· The opportunity to work with new machinery, automation and developing technologies.
· A genuine opportunity to grow with an innovative, expanding company rather than becoming one of a large engineering workforce.
Application
Please apply with an up-to-date CV that clearly shows the industrial machinery you have worked on, your electrical and mechanical experience, and the type of service, installation or commissioning work you have carried out.
Important: applications that do not demonstrate relevant hands-on industrial machinery experience are unlikely to be progressed.
