Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable HGV / Machinery Mechanic to join our maintenance team at a busy recycling yard. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a wide range of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and industrial plant machinery to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient site operations.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong mechanical knowledge, welding capability, and experience working with heavy equipment in demanding environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on HGVs and plant machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic faults efficiently.
- Repair and maintain recycling plant equipment, including conveyors, excavators, loading shovels etc
- Perform HGV and plant repairs in line with safety and compliance standards.
- Undertake fabrication and welding repairs (MIG/Stick welding required).
- Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimise operational downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete job sheets.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company health & safety policies.
- Assist in maintaining workshop tools, equipment, and parts inventory.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic, Plant Mechanic, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and heavy plant systems.
- Welding and fabrication skills (MIG/Arc essential).
- Experience working on HGVs and industrial plant machinery.
- Ability to troubleshoot and work independently.
- Good understanding of health & safety procedures.
- Full UK Driving Licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential).
