Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven Sales Manager who can take ownership of their role, work independently and use their initiative to identify and develop new business opportunities while maintaining strong customer relationships. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues across the business, building strong relationships with departments including Engineering and Production to ensure customer requirements are met and projects are delivered successfully.
Main job purpose
To develop and implement the company’s sales strategy to achieve sustainable business growth, increase market share, open new market sectors and strengthen customer relationships. The role will lead the sales function, identify new business opportunities, manage key customer accounts and manage the estimating team to ensure customer requirements are met.
The Sales Manager will play a key role in promoting Michael Smith Switchgear Ltd.’s reputation as a leading manufacturer and supplier of low voltage switchgear, control panels and electrical solutions.
Key Role Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
· Develop and implement an effective sales strategy aligned with company objectives.
· Identify and secure new business opportunities across target industries.
· Maintain and develop relationships with existing customers to maximize repeat business.
· Generate new relationships through networking, industry contacts, exhibitions and customer visits.
· Prepare and deliver professional sales presentations and proposals.
· Actively manage and use CRM system
· Negotiate commercial terms and contracts within company guidelines.
· Actively close and secure projects.
· Achieve agreed sales turnover and gross margin targets.
Customer Relationships Management
· Build strong, long-term relationships with customers.
· Act as the main point of contact for key accounts.
· Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the sales process.
· Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
· Conduct regular customer review meetings.
Quotation Support
· Work closely with the estimating team to ensure quotations are competitive and commercially viable.
· Ensure quotations are followed up in a timely manner.
Team Management
· Lead, motivate and support the estimating team.
· Set individual objectives and monitor performance.
· Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and performance reviews.
· Identify training and development needs.

Skills & Experience
Essential
· Experience within the electrical engineering, switchgear or manufacturing industry.
· Knowledge of LV switchgear, control panels or power distribution equipment.
· Proven experience in a sales generation, growth, management and closing.
· Strong business development and account management skills.
· Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
· Ability to build lasting customer relationships.
· Commercial awareness and financial understanding.
· Experience managing sales pipelines and forecasts.
· Excellent organisational skills.
· Full UK driving licence.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office.
· Experience using CRM systems.
· Strong understanding of technical specifications and tender documentation
