Lead Detached Youth Worker
Salary: £15-£16.50 per hour dependant on experience
Hours: 15–20 hours per week (3 evenings per week – exact working pattern to be agreed). Occasional weekend and daytime work may be required.
Location: Community-based across designated areas, with office working as required.
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated Lead Detached Youth Worker to lead ourdetached youth work programme, supporting young people in their own communities through relationship-based youth work.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about improving outcomes for young people, reducing risk, and ensuring they have access to trusted adults, positive opportunities and appropriate support.
You will lead a team of Detached Youth Workers, bankstaff and volunteers, ensuring the safe, effective and high-quality delivery of detached youth work. Alongside direct youth work delivery, you will coordinate staff deployment, develop partnerships with local agencies and contribute to the ongoing development of our services .

Key Responsibilities Leadership
- Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of the detached youth work programme.
- Develop weekly deployment plans informed by local intelligence, community need and safeguarding priorities .
- Ensure detached youth work sessions are delivered safely, consistently and in line with organisational policies and procedures.
- Monitor participation, outcomes and programme impact.
- Contribute to the ongoing development, improvement and innovation of youth work services.
Staff Leadership
- Line manage Detached Youth Workers, bank staff and volunteers.
- Provide regular supervision, support, coaching andperformance management.
- Lead team meetings and reflective practicesessions.
- Support safer recruitment, induction, training and continuous professional development.
- Promote a positive, inclusive and learning-focused team culture.
Youth Work Delivery
- Deliver high-quality detached youth work alongside the team.
- Build positive, professional relationships with youngpeople, families and local communities.
- Assess need, provide appropriate support and make referrals where necessary.
- Promote participation, youth voice, equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Encourage young people to develop confidence, resilience and positive life choices.
Partnership Working
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships with schools, police, local authorities, housing providers, health services and voluntary sector organisations.
- Attend multi-agency meetings where appropriate.
- Represent the organisation professionally within local partnerships and networks.
Safeguarding and Quality Assurance
- Act as the designated safeguarding lead during detached youth work sessions.
- Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are implemented consistently and effectively.
- Identify, record and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns in line with statutory guidance and organisational procedures.
- Ensure appropriate risk assessments are completed, reviewed and followed.
- Monitor quality standards and compliance withorganisational policies, procedures and health and safety requirements.
- Ensure accurate, timely and confidential recording of youth work, safeguarding and outcome data.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Produce reports demonstrating outcomes, impact and service performance.
- Analyse local trends and emerging needs to inform deployment and service planning.
- Support funding reports, monitoring requirementsand evidence collection.
Financial and Resource Management
- Support the management of the detached youth work budget.
- Ensure equipment, resources and vehicles (where applicable ) are maintained safely and appropriately.
- Monitor delegated expenditure and ensure value for money.
Person Specification
- Experience of supervising, leading or mentoring staff and/or volunteers.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation, child protection and risk management.
- Experience of planning, delivering and evaluating youth work programmes.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building andpartnership-working skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound professional judgements.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including regular evenings and occasional weekends.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle forwork purposes.
Desirable
- experience of delivering detached or outreach youth work with children and young people.
- Recognised Youth Work qualification at Level 3 or above (or equivalent relevant professional experience ).
- recognised Youth and Community Work qualification or equivalent.
- Experience of managing or delivering externally funded projects.
- Experience of writing monitoring or funding reports.
- Mental Health First Aid qualification.
- Current First Aid, paediatric first aid or Emergency First Aidqualification.
